Have you ever been to the bog? Have you ever even heard of it before?? I’m assuming all our Irish viewers know what it is 😂❤️

I have heard of it, but haven't seen it before. I've never been to one, either. My husband and I live in north Louisiana in the piney woods; literally, and have for all our lives. This was fascinating to watch and reminded me of hay hauling the way we used to do it when I was growing up on our family farm. Thank you for including us along for the trip to gather peat in the bog.

That was so cool and interesting to watch, how long does it take to dry out?
And how do you start a fire with it?

It depends on the weather really because it dries out in open air, could take a week or a few weeks 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 usually just light some kindling and then stack the turf on top 🥰

Is it a machine that cuts it up like that?

Yes a machine cuts it these day but it can and used to be cut using a horse and cart!

    Do people still use turf???

Yes! I think commercial turf cutting has been stopped but you can still cut your private bog 👍

    what is turf?

It is boggy ground that is cut up into sods (a sod of turf) and turned and dried and then brought home and stacked in a shed usually to use as fuel for the fire 😊
