    Yeah I no what you mean by having to work on them quite a bit. My 1952 8N is running pretty good right at the moment hopefully it will stay that way for a while. I just mainly use mine too blade my driveway. Got to treat them old tractors like glass.

    Did you ever put a front grill on it? It’s missing it.

      I did indeed! I just did it later after I was sure the fix was good. Thanks for watching!

      @@mytwelveacres3071 Awesome! I’m sort of a picky guy when it comes to details like that. Great video!

    Don't be too hard on the old girl. Lol She didn't burden you with a payment book. I can appreciate where you are coming from, though. I have a '50 8n (currently in pieces as an engine rebuild is leading to a replacement - cracked block) and an '54 NAA. NAA is pretty similar, except live hydraulics (nice) and a little more hp. I only got the NAA recently to have something while sorting out the 8n. Just found a '52 engine that is looking like I can just bolt up and use, but need to do a compression test to confirm. Also picked up a dreaded loader for it as I am going to use it for light duty cleaning and hauling goat bedding/manure. Besides that, I use them on my small 5 acre goat farm for everything from snow removal, bush hogging, firewood collection, hauling material, and coming soon, cutting and raking hay. I love the simplicity of them and how easy they are to work on. Now, I was too cheap to buy a Kubota, so I have the luxury of not knowing what I am missing. Enjoyed the video and subscribed. Figured it was worth giving you a comment too. Looking forward to seeing what else you put together.

      Thanks for subscribing Cris, I do too love the 8N for it's simplicity. I do work the snott out of it though, but she keeps plugging along.
      It is especially good on our steep ,hilly property with the low center of gravity. Good brakes are a must here!

      @@mytwelveacres3071 We are not really hilly, but I appreciate the fact you sit lower on the 8n, straddling the trans. vs. my first tractor, which was an Allis C w/ the narrow front end. It did what I wanted at the time, but you sat over the pumpkin (I guess designed for better vision cultivating). Between that and and a front end that struggled to stay planted, I moved on the 8n. I guess it was safer, relatively speaking.

      Spot on with “no payment book”. I have a Jubilee. Maybe 75:1 run verses repair if you don’t count grease and oil. Maybe even more. Easy to diagnose and repair. Henry designed it use about four wrenches a screwdriver. I use it with a nice finish mower and it just runs - beautifully! I laugh at these guys spending big dough on fancy mowers. It does a beautiful job for pennies/hour.

      I had to read my comment again. Looks like this was a couple of years ago. NAA is still chugging along. I think only issues in that time was the need to clean up battery cables. 8n is back in service with the loader and no regrets. Yeah, you know it does not have power steering, but loader is very useful.

    Great video! Can you tell me more on how you stoned the block to get it flat?

    How did you know it was the head gasket? Just curious. Mine has a black film of oil on top of the coolant.

    • @mytwelveacres3071
      @mytwelveacres3071  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey George, I at first had oil on top of the coolant in the radiator. I eventually had exhaust that was blowing a lot of moisture. Fixing the head gasket increased the oil pressure some as well. Thanks for watching!

      We ran our 8N for over thirty years with oil in the coolant. The tractor smoked but ran fine and started easily. We stopped using it in 2003 and in 2021 I completely rebuilt the engine. The radiator looked like it had grey pudding in it. This was caused by leaking head gasket between #2 and #3 cylinders. I had feared a cracked block but it was OK. Engine runs like a new one now. I replaced the radiator with a new aftermarket one. I sprayed my head gasket with Copperkote and I retorqued the head bolts after about three hours run time.

    Anybody got ideas for taking the head off the 8n? I took all of the bolts and nuts off but it will not budge. I've tried penetrating oils like WD-40, I've tried a small wedge with a mallet, I've tried a dead blow hammer, I've tried a 2x4 with a hammer, and I've tried prying it loose. It just will NOT come off.

      Sounds like you’ve tried everything. Maybe a little heat will loosen things up?

      Hey lorettaanderson8216, mine started with oil in the radiator and then progressed to steam coming out of the exhaust. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!!
