I got the same one... I'll never go back to stock style distributor. This thing is makes my engine run so smooth. I think I need bigger cam to make it rowdy again.
If your timing is correct you just mark it and put the new one just like the old one. You don't have to find TDC. I made this repair 20 years ago when I was 19 and I even knew that back then. Your over thinking it.
You do realize it's not the eyes that goes short, it's the arms that shrink. Age has nothing to do with shortsightedness, it's the arms that shrink, the reason why you can't move the newspaper far enough away to read the damn thing.

That's bad ass and very simple the only problem is some carbs don't make the engine start fast to take off in case of a emergency

I think the cam in that engine won’t work for a carburetor. I don’t know when gm started putting different cams in for fuel injection

It will work, the carb doesn’t care as much as the efi does
How is the distributor getting power if nothing is connected to the bat on distributor
