Great video Chuck! Hit the nail on the head. Sire is very attentive to their players. I was incredibly impressed with their response in addressing the wiring issues that were present on some of the early batches. Things happen, and it's how those things are addressed that shows the true colors of a company. Sire's colors are shining bright and vibrant (just like those P5 finishes!)
Thanks man! Honestly their attention to their customer demographic is really impressive. Very transparent and I feel that says a lot about the standard they are trying to live by regarding their products. I love the finishes and I really cannot find what “corners they cut” to get a bass or basses this good for the price they’re selling them for! Someone earlier said I sounded like a shill cause of the praise I conveyed but it’s just the truth. If these basses were trash I would have stated that as professionally as possible. They just weren’t… sorry 😂
@@Therealchuckbailey The 5 series in general is so impressive. I'm not a huge fan of their preamp in the 'fender' style basses so when they released a passive line with roasted maple necks and premium hardware for $500, I was very excited! They delivered a real KO punch to the fender MIM line with these. If I had to nitpick, I think the stock pickups lack a smidge of booty but they still sound very solid out of the box. Sires are just great basses that you can make your own with some tweaks, that's why I love em!
When Marcus Miller left Fender in 2014 & went to Sire, one of his main reasoning was to partner with a Company who would make decent quality entry level instruments and get them into more kids hands & get more kids playing music which I thought was pretty cool. Good informative video as always 😀👍
I got a Sire D5 (basic sunburst) about 10 months ago and I am delighted. I was initially going to buy another model but then I saw that passive pickup model on the wall, tried it a bit and bought it. It plays like a charm, sounds right, stays tuned. I think I might need to slightly adjust the pickup because the E string sounds a bit too loud, but overall I am super-satisfied. Main use : Recording rock/pop/soul and various other styles original material. Seriously happy.
Won me over - It has a nice aesthetic improvement on the old design, it still looks vintage but with a bit of an edge too it. Roasted maple looks nice. Wow it sounds great with a pick.
I got a Sire MM V10 2nd generation last year and I have to admit it, overall it sounds better than my Fender American Pro J-bass at $200 less. V10 absolutely is a keeper for me.
I think Sire P5 is on a bright side too. Maybe Marcus Miller loves bright sound, so they basses are bright? I may be wrong, just guessing. Only heard Sires on TH-cam
Bloodsport rules !!! I love that movie so much. SIRE basses are so amazing. How someone could say something bad is just ignorant. I just weighed my 1st gen sire and it's over 10 lbs. I NEVER knew it. It balances so well.
It wasn’t bad but it’s player specific. I’m not dying with a 10+ lbs. bass but it’s not my first choice either 😂 these newer ones are much lighter and still have great balance and ergonomics

Man i love the sound of this bass!!. I have a V3 and a 5 strings V9, and i love them!, but this one sounds great.. It's true that it would be great more low end, but they are fantastic basses for the price. I'm a big fan of Sire basses. I love them
Nice playing. First review of this bass I’ve watched where it sounded like it has balls. I mean, nothing against that low tone muted sound, it’s cool too. I just like nastiness from my bass.
$600 G&L Kiloton Tribute basses are great but mine sure is heavy. You need a good wide strap for it. I had a Sire second gen. P7 that was not heavy and played well after a neck tweak.
Very comprehensive review. Those stock single coil P pups are always grittier/more trebly than the split coil. I found the v7 too heavy as well, but then a 70's jazz bass is usually 9+ pounds from almost any mfr. P basses are generally lighter. My D5 4 string is 8lbs 2 ounces. Killer QC, though I'd prefer smaller frets, they look like .095 x .047 + - , but I can have that filed down. And the bone nut to is too big, but I can also address that. Just my personal preferences.
I was checking out Sweetwater and they have pre-order for the D5 but the description is for a steel bridge, no brass saddles. Weird.... by the way, it is a bone nut.
That is weird! When I look up photos at other online stores it shows it with the brass saddles on the D5. Might just be an oversight? And to the confirmation of the materials for the nut I say…. SWEET!
Thank you this video definitely stopped me buying Sire for many reasons,I know the pure cost of what the price is to manufacture them, and that's what there worth!
I just searched thoough all your videos since this one and did not find anything where you modded this bass with new pickups. Did I not see it, or did you not do it?
Enjoyed the review...really look forward to the mods. I have had this exact model on order for six months now. Sure wish it would come in. Seeing you TH-cam guys getting, and reviewing, them makes me wonder why us lowly consumers can't get ours delivered. Every review I've seen makes mention of the lack of low end with the stock pickups so I already have a Lindy Fralin waiting to go along with some copper tape, as I don't think there is any shielding in the electronics cavity or under the pickup. Did you notice any hum? The stock pickup is supposed to be a split coil but some reviewers still mention a slight audible buzz. Didn't/Couldn't hear any on the video but doubt it would come through normal computer speakers. Thanks again, great review.
A lot of times companies have “review models” that go back and forth to different content creators so don’t be discouraged. Logistics for shipping and receiving has been a nightmare as I’m sure everyone is aware. Some distributors buy larger lots as far as instruments go so that is a factor as well. It’ll get there my friend just be patient. As far as the hum we noticed it albeit slightly but it’s audible. It did not negatively impact the instrument but if you’re looking hard enough you can notice it. Like I said it’s a minor thing that’s easily fixed! The mod videos will be exciting as we got EMG and Nordstrand Audio to partner with! Thanks again!
No one is mentioning one detail- its a TELECASTER bass (at least the closest thing that Fender ever produced to a Tele.) I play in a country band, where Telecasters rule. Now, im part of the crowd.
I habe a Gen2 V7 5 string, which is a great bass. But yes... It's heavy, I have to admit. Other than that it is great. I even like the neck mores than my Sandberg's neck, I had some years ago. Overall they are great value. 😅
I would buy a Site over a Fender any day . Not just because of the price . They have better hardware , pickups setups and simply better made than the overpriced modern Fender garbage which literally get more expensive every month . Literally every month . I hope they get put out of business by Sire , Vintage and all the other up and coming companies .
Nice, honest insight. Not a fan myself of the brand but I would not hesitate to give these a try if I were in the market for another bass. I’m really attracted to that neck. Is there any hum? Is it a single or dual coil pickup?
I keep saying I gotta get me one of these, so perfect timing, my Sweetwater guy texts me to let me know there's a shipment coming in, and if I want one, to preorder now! So yay! D5 coming for Christmas!
This is encouraging! Sweetwater is where mine has been on order for the past six months so hopefully it'll be a good Christmas for both of us. Fingers crossed.
It still looks like they need some work on their headstocks. The p and j ones. They sort of look unfinished, the shape is pretty dull. The headstock on this one looks a little nicer, writing wise.
I’d rather use those bridge saddles, with the single fixed slot for the strings, instead of the threaded saddles they use on most of their other Fender clone basses.
Edit* they have models that are $399 also!! 😱
Hell yea!
Hey Chuck. Thanks for bringing that up. I have a Sire V3 that it's heavy though I decided to keep it. Great talk

Hey man. Nice shot! Really like this bass. Good bitey 50s-style P. Love the roasted maple for that price point.
I see what you did there!
Seriously $499 for this bass Is insanely good
I think the p basses with that strait pickup can be surprisingly bright . ( compared to the split coil)
I think Sire P5 is on a bright side too. Maybe Marcus Miller loves bright sound, so they basses are bright? I may be wrong, just guessing. Only heard Sires on TH-cam

Sire are some great basses. Their quality have improved greatly in recent years.
Totally agree!
@@Therealchuckbailey I'd buy one over a MIM Fender.
Very informative! Great presentation, would have liked to hear how the deeper less treble sound is like but no big deal
we had a follow up on this bass for our TH-cam Members where we addressed our concerns with an Upgrade that Made this bass basically perfect!
$600 G&L Kiloton Tribute basses are great but mine sure is heavy. You need a good wide strap for it. I had a Sire second gen. P7 that was not heavy and played well after a neck tweak.
I guess I lucked out; I’ve got a 2nd gen V3 5 string it weighs less then 9lbs and it sounds great.

I think the right set of flats would be a huge advantage

Not weird to hope but it’s highly unlikely! Never seen a 5 string tele bass in commercial production but a custom build… sky’s the limit!

Way too much talking about Sire instead of the Bass. Dont get me wrong, but feels like a Sire PR Commercial.
This bass is $600 now.
