As a new bassist (and long time guitarist), I’m really digging your channel. Good stuff. After tons of sampling and playing basses in all price ranges…I went with the Sire based on you and Andertons. And it’s terrific. Absolutely as good as $1000+ basses. Not as good as a boutique or custom shop, but still, totally giggable out of the box.
Cheers Jonny! I just wanted to say, You’re making better and better videos. The entertainment, the energy, sincerity and content, are/is fantastic. (Also after checking out your band, loved that too) The intro today was AWESOME!!! I think sire needs to start making Replacement necks. They really do, feel and play great....and the more i hear people, cry about how ugly the headstock, the more i like them. Anyway...just my opinion. Great stuff Jonny.
About other reviewers saying that the Bass lacks low end: you could describe it as a con as in 'not enough low end'. Or you could describe it as a pro as in 'it has more mids than an average p-bass'. That's the main reason I went with Sire instead of Fender (oh, and the price helped too)
@@JonnyDibble Also, I noticed that there aren't any good direct Fender Precision vs Sire P5 sound comparisons and it's something a lot of people are interested in (Sire groups, talkbass, reddit forums). I ended up going with the green, it just had a nicer looking grain of wood on the neck. Anyone who's on the fence, go try one if you can. Awesome value for money.
I know what you mean about the necks being "fast" - same goes for their guitars. It was like I was a totally different player, just able to run up and down the neck without missing notes. The Sterlings are the only other company putting out Basses around this price point that do that for me. I like those necks a little better though as they're glossier.

Thanks for your reviews. But I cannot make up my mind, what should I get, the Sire P5 or the Sire V5? Which one has a better low end and slap sound? Which one has more tone variety?
Yeah agree on newer American standard necks they use a 1963 spec neck they are just a bit too thick. These necks are nice they remind me of the older American standard necks from 2003-2007 era which some say are the best basses they made. I’m still on the waiting list but my friend got one Mod and re finished his already hahaha
I think the bridges on the latest Sires are poor. They only use two screws on the rear edge of the bridge where all the stress is when every other manufacturer uses 5 or 6 in this position. Also the unusual screw pattern makes swapping the bridge more difficult than it needs to be. A few cents spent on 3 more screws would definitely be worth the extra cost in my opinion !
Sire is using the Marcus Miller name to sell these. If it had just said Sire, they would be treated with the same respect as Glarry. This Indonesian bass, Sire, is really exactly like my 2004 Squier Standard, P bass made in Indonesia, both passive, my Squier P bass has a jazz neck and added jazz pickup!
It's very clever, being able to get their name on the market in a big way. That being said, I don't think that takes away from the quality of Sire. The premium features and build quality isn't something you often find in basses in this price point!
Is this bass heavy at all? I’ve been playing a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar for ages now, I love it but it feels very heavy. Been thinking about a Sire P5 for a while now but since no local stores stock them, I’d hate to order one online and then have it feel awkward to play for me. Awesome looking bass though!
I love the sire necks, but I'm not a huge fan of the tone from most of their jazz basses. It's usually much brighter than Fenders, Gibsons, Squires and even Harley Bentons which was a bit of a disappointment. However, this looks promising!
Yeah the active preamp makes them super bright, lots of clarity though. That's why I was super excited for passive basses from Sire. Don't like the over complicated control systems!
@@JonnyDibble interesting development. I much prefer the look of the Yamaha but this sounds perfect for what I want on paper. Don't think any of my local music shops will get them in though so might have to take the plunge!
That's funny that you mentioned the brass saddles,I live in the states so I am waiting for Sweetwater to get these in stock. Every model they are offering though has steel saddles, I wonder if they stopped using brass.
Get an interview with Kyle Kim; he seems like a straight up person. Started Dame guitars like 30 years before Sire. :-) Just a guy tryna get decent instruments into people's hands to get more people playing; good dude.
I know what you mean about too many fiddly knobs on a bass, that put me off their jazz and that horrible headstock (it still needs further improvement IMO) it might be my imagination but I think there’s a big move away from active basses of late in general
Nice, thorough review, thank you! I like the look of the D5, although there is something about the shape of these headstocks that slightly puts me off.
great video, thanks! When you do the D5, check the electronics to see if they are also badly soldered (so it doesn't annoy you and can be out of the equation). I'm looking forward to it because I'd like to get one of these! :-)
@@JonnyDibble thanks! I feel like I’m spamming you too much with this and my instagram comment on the D5 (yeah, same Juan haha) but I really appreciate both reviews. Cheers!
Maybe it's my phone, but I'm getting fret noise, metallic tone, with no lows. You are picking so close to the bridge, that your tone is super bright, with no bottom, it's like treble overload.
Think that's a combination of my aggressive playing and phone speakers (it's trebly for me too) through decent speakers the low end sounds super nice 😁
I rly want to hear it with flats. That's my thing. I can get my v7 to sound very similar with the neck pickup and I think that's all the P bass I need. Unless its got that motown thing going on with the flats

Wow Jonny; I am at a crossroads on what new bass to get. The Sire P5'; The P-7; The G and L LB 100 or the Squire Paranormal Jazz... decisions decisions.....
Nice review! I’m in the US and I’m a big low end lobster fan. What made you choose the 4 string over the 5? Should I worry about ordering one to the US? I subscribed today and was very impressed. Are you able to say if this is better than the D5 and do you know what makes them different. Sorry if I have too many questions! I really think I want one! JJ
Hi JJ! Thanks so much for the sub 😄 I'm a 4 string guy mainly and I wanted this to be my main P bass. I don't really like 5 string passive P basses, bit too farty sounding for me personally. Slightly different sounds with these basses, the P5 is a bit more rounded sounding whereas the D5 sounds a bit more raw? Hope that makes sense. Going to put flats on the D5 I think 😊The P5 was set up better out of the box. These basses are going to be very popular, just depends on stock levels I think!
@@JonnyDibble thanks for writing me back. I live in the US and have never bought anything to my knowledge in the United Kingdom. I’m trying to figure those cost and if I should just wait til they arrive in US which may be several years. JJ

Just got my P5 the other dAy. Can u tell me if it’s hurts to keep it plugged in the amp when I’m not playing with the AmP off. It pulls out kind of tight so I’m trying to avoid it if it’s not a big deal? Also I’m getting black stains on my vetting hand . Do you know what that is? I’m very novice any advise would be appreciated. JJ
Hi! So it's only bad to leave it plugged in if the bass is active (has batteries) because having the jack in, activates the batteries. As the P5 is passive, shouldn't hurt it 😊 I too had black stains, I believe this is just a reaction between your fingers and the strings or the fretboard stain. Internet says its metal oxides rubbing off onto your fingers from the strings. If it persists, wipe with a microfiber cloth. Mine doesn't do it anymore 😊 P.s. congrats on the new bass!
Awesome. I was jammin the past 4 hours while watching your new D5 video and your D5 and P5 unboxing video. When I took the P5 out my came out of the box almost the same way. Are there bass players who use pick only?
@@JonnyDibble Hey Jonny! What do you think of the weight balance of this bass? Consider that I am an absolute rookie, I had never picked up a bass in my life, but it seems to me that the P5 is strongly unbalanced towards the neck-headstock, am I wrong? With the shoulder strap it goes a little better. Thank you!
Sounds really cool! Where can i possibly listen to it? I just subscribed to your channel, and really love your reviews. Would like to dig in more about your music 🙂
Great looking and sounding bass. Unfortunately for me the Marcus Miller on the headstock kills it for me. I'd much prefer if it said Sire. I know this is subjective but I am not trying to be Marcus Miller or present expectations that I'm trying to be on his level.
The Sire basses have everyone jumping on the band wagon, to get one. I wish it had a Fender headstock, does Marcus Miller really play it, or just sell it?
as far as i know its said he is involved in the development and oviously giving his name to the series of basses. Live he maybe playing this things not so often...its beginners basses as i understand.
@@toledo2983 definitely not a beginners bass, more like a mid tier, Intermediate Advanced, like quality level of a Fender players series or the Squier vintage modified.
@@toledo2983 Not a "beginner" bass.. The V7 Sounds better than my American fender pro P bass and my old American fender Marcus miller 5 string. Fells just as good too. Tuners and bridge are slightly budget but they are good enough that I haven't bothered upgrading them...
@@Whos-That-Guy Beginners deserve a good instrument, and i would not say necessarily a beginners instrument is a "bad" instrument. I have a squier standard Pbass and its better than any other my basses, lets say other my 4-string basses. I put the sire in the "beginners bass" category as beginners dont want to pay over 2000 euros for instrument, and are not as demanding for their instruments in quality terms than professionals.
@@toledo2983 I see what your saying and I agree that a beginners instrument isn't a "bad" instrument. But the price of the Sire is probably higher than most beginners would want or need to pay. I wouldn't ever put the sire in the beginner category cos you can get a decent bass for 1/3 of the price of a sire. But the sire plays and sounds as good as basses 4 times it's price. I would call it intermediate to semi professional... I mean who cares right haha. They are awesome, beginners to pros, everybody loves them.

@@JonnyDibble thanks for the quick response! love your videos!
@@incommunito no worries. Thanks so much! 😁
I love the colours of these basses! How’s the neck feel? 👀
Me too! Feels SOOOO good
Great tones and playing.
I am interested in the 5-string version. Love passive P basses, need a 5.
Thanks very much 😄 Andertons have demoed the 5 string version, low B sounds good!
That's what I want too!
@@JonnyDibble I ordered it from Sweetwater. They say I should get it in May. Good luck to me. 😆
Hey Johnny, are you still happy with this Bass?
Really, really like the look ...and sounds nice too.
Feels great too. Triple threat!
That's funny that you mentioned the brass saddles,I live in the states so I am waiting for Sweetwater to get these in stock. Every model they are offering though has steel saddles, I wonder if they stopped using brass.
Just the D5 that has brass saddles I believe?
@Jonny Dibble I was looking at the Marcus Miller D5, sorry about that
@@michaelheintz1349 My bad, I misread! How strange!
Great Review as always! Have you noticed neck dive? Thanks!
Thanks very much! Played it stood up lots at practice, no neck dive that I can notice!
@@JonnyDibble Thank you!
how wide is the neck at the nut? the sire site says 1.85 but that must be the 5 string.
Love the content, and the podcast is a regular on my dog walks ha. When is the d5 review going live?
Thanks so much! D5 review will be live next week 😁
@@JonnyDibble loved it cheers Jonny 👊❤️
Hey! Thank you for the review. Do you prefere this sire over your g&l sb2?
Hi! You're welcome 😊 Yeah I do. Both great basses though!
Get an interview with Kyle Kim; he seems like a straight up person.
Started Dame guitars like 30 years before Sire. :-)
Just a guy tryna get decent instruments into people's hands to get more people playing; good dude.
Potential podcast guest! Thanks for the recommendation 😀
I know what you mean about too many fiddly knobs on a bass, that put me off their jazz and that horrible headstock (it still needs further improvement IMO) it might be my imagination but I think there’s a big move away from active basses of late in general
Active basses have their place don't get me wrong (I LOVE a stingray), but yeah I think for P basses they just sound best passive 😁
Nice, thorough review, thank you! I like the look of the D5, although there is something about the shape of these headstocks that slightly puts me off.
No worries! Yeah its a bit of a contention point with Sires! The D5 has a slightly slimmer headstock to replicate that tele bass look
great video, thanks! When you do the D5, check the electronics to see if they are also badly soldered (so it doesn't annoy you and can be out of the equation). I'm looking forward to it because I'd like to get one of these! :-)
Thank-you! D5 review is now live 😄 Spoiler: Electronics alllll good 😊
@@JonnyDibble thanks! I feel like I’m spamming you too much with this and my instagram comment on the D5 (yeah, same Juan haha) but I really appreciate both reviews. Cheers!
@@juanjan__ Spam away! 😄 Appreciate it Juan, cheers!
soooo tempted by one of these.
Highly recommend!
I'll try and demo it with flats soon 😄 I just reviewed the D5 with flats, sounds great!
@@JonnyDibble You're aweseome!
Do these basses have graphite reinforcement rods in them ?
Hi there. Great channel. Any preference between the Sire P5 and G&L SB-2?
Thanks! I prefer the P5 to be honest. Nicer features and having a tone control too. This bass suits flats so well imo too
@@JonnyDibble That’s great to hear. Thanks so much for the quick reply and info. Cheers.
Why spend the extra for a Mexican Fender when you can get the Sire P5. Will be interesting to compare to the new 2022 Squires . Great job👍
Keeping Fender on their toes! I talk more about this in my latest podcast 😊 Cheers!
😎 get a gold anodized pickguard and gold hardware, it will look like a million bucks, cause it already sounds like it!
I legit have a version of that mocked up haha!
@@JonnyDibble and the low end lackness may be the capacitor on the tone knob.
Hey mate, do you still own this bass? after 2.5 years is there any issue with the roasted maple neck?
@@fajarbuwana I do not own it I’m afraid!
Grey or white perloid like the p7 would be cool
Yeah!! Really would. Shame you can't get a replacement guard. I'm leaning towards getting a custom gold one made 😈
Gold pickguard, not black. Nice video again, thanks 👍
I did toy with a gold one! Got a black one made ein the end though
Mate …. That intro cracked me up ….. nice subtle piss-take there haha
Now ….. wonder how one of these rigs would go with an MM pup installed…..
Christ….. here we go again…..haha
Excellent review mate 👍
Haha I'm glad! Oooffff I do like an active MM pickup though! Thanks so much 😄
How does P5 compare to made in Mexico fender and American professional. Which would rank 1 2 3
Tough one! If you take value for money into account, P5, American, Mexican. I think the American sounds warmer, but its like 3x the price of the P5!

@@JonnyDibble you sounded great on the P5. You helped me a lot on your thoughts about the 4 string. Wish Anderton could give me more insight on the other charges I’m worried about. Can’t wait to see you do the D5
Aye! Lovely
Well impressed!
How is the neck on these for people with smaller hands ?
Hi! It's a bigger neck, but not uncomfortable. That being said, I've got big hands. It's similar to a regular P bass. Have you played one before?
@@JonnyDibble : No , I just have a squier vintage modified jazz bass 70s. It has a nice slim neck but I've heard , the neck is usually fatter on the precision bass. I would like to find a p bass with the same slim neck if possible. I guess I would probably need to try it in person in a store.
@@ajdoyle9559 What about a Jaguar? I had a Fender jaguar PJ configuration and the neck was incredible, more like a jazz bass
@@JonnyDibble : Nice, I hadn't thought of that. Do you have a video on your channel ?
@@ajdoyle9559 unfortunately not. Sold it before I started the channel! Regret getting rid of that bass
Wow Jonny; I am at a crossroads on what new bass to get. The Sire P5'; The P-7; The G and L LB 100 or the Squire Paranormal Jazz... decisions decisions.....
Its a great time for bass at least! I obviously highly recommend the P5 but I've only played that and the paranormal!
I own the g&l lb100 tribute and I really enjoy it. Not as bright as the sire sounds on the video but sounds better than a fender player Mexican made.
@@JonnyDibble so are you saying p5 is ahead of the paranormal bass ? I've played the paranormal and that was impressive .
@@darrenwales1092 Yeah, personally I prefer the P5. Lots of premium features!
is that your riff at 11:15?
Yeah I just make it up on the spot tbh! 🤪

JJ
@@jjhebert2240 they're a USA company so shouldn't be an issue 😊
@@JonnyDibble I found them on Andertons in UK
@@jjhebert2240 that's where I saw them available as well last night. Was curious about ordering. They seem to be on backorder here in the States. Prob May/June here....I don't want to wait that long🙄😬.
As the P5 is passive, shouldn't hurt it 😊
I too had black stains, I believe this is just a reaction between your fingers and the strings or the fretboard stain. Internet says its metal oxides rubbing off onto your fingers from the strings. If it persists, wipe with a microfiber cloth. Mine doesn't do it anymore 😊
P.s. congrats on the new bass!
Awesome. I was jammin the past 4 hours while watching your new D5 video and your D5 and P5 unboxing video. When I took the P5 out my came out of the box almost the same way. Are there bass players who use pick only?
Sorry, didn't get it. The MM signature on the headstock of this particular model is really putting off????
Think it's the same as all Sires!
Love the intro
Thanks 😊

Woohoo! How do you find it??
@@JonnyDibble Comes to me in the next few days!
It's my first bass :)) Thanks Jonny!
@@warburgaby Oh wow, I wish my first bass was this good!
@@JonnyDibble 😅👍👍
@@JonnyDibble Hey Jonny!
What do you think of the weight balance of this bass? Consider that I am an absolute rookie, I had never picked up a bass in my life, but it seems to me that the P5 is strongly unbalanced towards the neck-headstock, am I wrong? With the shoulder strap it goes a little better. Thank you!
I hear this bass and the first thing that comes to my mind to play are some Green Day songs
Mike does love a P bass!
Nice ending track! Is that an original?
Thanks! Yeah it is 😊
Sounds really cool!
Yeah it is a bit weird that! I wonder if they'll brand out and do more with other artists like they have with the Larry Carlton guitars
@@JonnyDibble yeah, even if it said Sire M.M. and they put his signature on the back like fender has done that'd be fine also.
I put the sire in the "beginners bass" category as beginners dont want to pay
over 2000 euros for instrument, and are not as demanding for their instruments in quality terms than professionals.
Overall colour scheme is stunning, the only thing I actively dislike on these Sires is the cutaway for truss rod adjustment, showing the body colour. I'd be getting a small paintbrush right away and painting it dark inside to blend with the tort guard! Killer looks and chunky sound. Very nice 👍
I often quite like that about basses tbf! Yeah nothing a bit of paint couldn't fix 😝
Gorgeous looking bass, it sounds like a P-bass, I really don’t need another P style bass, but that neck 😍
The neck is unreal!
Fuck yeah, so hyped
I've been hyped since they were announced! 😍
Johnny Dibble, do you enjoy playing slap n pop or do your viewers want you to? you know, in order to hear how the bass sounds slap n popped?
