- Another translation of mine. This time I tried to to be as literal as possible.
What I like about this recording is that Charles of Habsburg speaks for peace in general. It is not just a simple victory speech.

Well... That was a lie...
"Viribus Unitis"? Did he really believe that? He didn't want to abdicate because he was too proud to accept the democratic changes in Europe. He refused to give freedom to nations of his Empire. He was the last link of the chain suffocating the southern Poland during the partitions. In truth Austrian partition was not a harsh as Russian and Prussian ones and the Poles enjoyed certain autonomy, nevertheless it was a kind of slavery and humiliation. If a man accepts the subjugation of others then how could he be a saint? No honest person could believe that!
The biggest opressors of the Poles were in fact other Poles. Not only was the Polish elite hellbent on exploiting their peasantry as much as they possibly could, in their pride they also blocked any reform effort by Polish kings that could prevent the eventual partitions.
There was also an attempt by Emperor Charles to federalize the empire, but by that point it was too late, and the collapse had little to do with cultural tensions anyway.

They should have thought out their "Sejm" better... a unanimous vote for every measure brought before the Sejm is a piss-poor idea if foreign influence can buy the vote of 1 man, and thus stop the entire Polish parliament in its tracks 😂
