    just a little tip to do it a little easier. make a flat pancake to in bed the lure and than press the pre-build lego-frame arround. and to get a nice flat surface use two peaces of wood(or so...) with the same diameter on the sides and roll the clay flat. much easier and faster. i hope you understand my "english". and thanks allot for your videos, its just funn to watch other lurebuilders and learn from eachother

    Great video with great info. I agree with copying a lure for personal use especially with the cost of some of the high end lures. Hope you are all doing fine.

      You're right, those lures are pricey, it's super satisfying to copy a $80 or $100 lure.

      @@EngineeredAngler have you tried making a one-piece silicone cut-mold? Or used plaster instead?
      The cut molds are literally one piece, and when the silicone is fully cured, you cut the mold almost in half to get the master out. It's held together with wood supports and rubber bands for casting.
      Sometimes if there's too much compression the mold can warp. And a common solution is to make the master mold cylindrical

    Great job as always. I'm thinking about trying to make a big swim bait out of wood for a winter project.
    Something I've been experimenting with is plastic lids from soda bottles. Turning them into a plastic puck and using them for different projects. The big issue is air bubbles, i just need a way to make a metal or wood 2 piece mold.

    Have you ever embedded pins in the mold to help keep the internal harness in place? I ended up making a mold for the Zara Puppy yesterday and it came out great except sometimes the wire moves when I'm putting the two halves of the mold together. I'm thinking of cutting the head off a sewing pin and sticking it down into the silicone to help locate the harness.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I have...infact did it on this one as i was improving the shape of the harness

  • @scott9751
    @scott9751 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great video and I'm going to use it to copy a Zara Puppy. I'm curious why you drill out the eyes and install pre-made ones instead of just painting the eyes? By the way, it's hard to buy plain old Lego bricks these days. We gave away a huge tub of them when our kids outgrew them and now that I want some for mold making it looks like all they sell are kits with odd shaped pieces for building cool things like space ships and robots. Plain old rectangular bricks with a base plate are hard to find. I was able to find an off brand on Amazon that sells a brick assortment plus a couple base plates so I'll give them a shot.

    I really enjoy this silicon mold style of bait making.
    I wonder if you could apply this technique, take apart a well made glide bait and replicate both pieces.
    I may have to try that on a shad swim bait or glide. This is so awesome

  • @cyberflexx953

    How would you go about making a mold with thin walls and large cavities and a knocker chamber, left and right halves to snap together and glue? Like the clear knock off blanks you can get off Amazon? No micro balloons and uses less resin. I'd love to see you try to make a mold like those.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've been planning to do something similar...it's a bit complicated...two part lure, four part mold.

    • @cyberflexx953
      @cyberflexx953 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @EngineeredAngler many years ago I had seen a very poor quality grainy video of someone who made these types of molds. From what I remember, the molds were long enough for 4 lures. He used an insert for the cavities. I remember when he made them on his work bench he used 2 by 4's to put the mold between when it was laying on the table since it was so long. From what I remember, it was about the size of a gel keyboard wrist rest. The video did not go into detail on how he made it and it was a very poor video. I might have seen it on tackle underground but I can't seem to locate it anymore

    Would it be simpler to just add a heavier hook to the tail of the bait to change the floating angle? (same size hook, thicker wire) Great video as always.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure you could do that but you have a mold and can perfect the angle with each casting.

    Quite the action on both slow and fast retrieve, good job man. What braid were you using at the end? And do braids tend to tangle like that? I just bought a brand new rod, reel and braid but I never had braid before (and I didn't cheap out, 22lb power pro super 8 slick v2) so seeing stuff like that mildly terrifies me.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Braid is awesome that's all I use except for my leaders. What happened was the lure hung up and I just pulled on it really hard and snap the line and it just backlashed.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  หลายเดือนก่อน

      With the split shot weight I could place the weight more precisely where it should go. The lure narrowed too much to place the rattle tube back far enough.

    I don't approve of copying someone's work for profit, and I don't begrudge anyone a FAIR profit. But the price of lures these days is getting ridiculous.
    Locally (Ontario, Canada) a ShadRap (depending on model) costs $16 to $26 each!
    I fish for bass and walleyes without a wire leader (by necessity) and it's not uncommon to lose a couple of lures a day to bite-offs from pike. That gets expensive real fast.
    I figure that the shape of a baitfish is not patented and the laws of physics dictates the configuration of the lure so Rapala can't complain if my lure looks a lot like theirs. 😉
    Besides enjoying making stuff, I think that the lure companies are taking advantage of fishermen and don't hesitate to make copies for my own use.
    ...just a pet peeve 😁
    Cheers!
