Some people don't get that some modpacks aren't that much of personal project to be offended by criticism. Yes, creators put effort in them, even in this one, there is some effort made. But it doesn't mean that it's enough to not get criticism, instead, it should be criticized. This is how creators grow, they do silly stuff and get response to it. Noone can do best mod in existence as their first one. So if you are creating mods, or doing maps or something, you should know that criticism IS required for you, and thankly you will get it no matter how good project or aspect of it is. Let's say you don't have control over things people say, but you have absolute control over how to react to it. And yeah, just in case somebody wouldn't get it, I don't mean that people should write hate comments on mods, this is not criticism

As a gldsource and a source modder i can definitely say that purple checker board textures is not exclusive to source engine because checker board textures not even valve's it's from quake engine but in quake you had grey checker board textures when textures is missing

The reason why a lot of maps became so flatly lit is because who ever recompiled the maps, used way too high numbers for the light sources. In half life if you go too bright it won't actually be brighter just more flat. So you are suppose to use low numbers, to have better contrast between dark and light which is in return prettier. It also matters what textures you are using bright textures will scatter more light, there for more flatness.
The implication here is that this guy didn't actually play the mod himself, when you think about it. Had he done so, he would have included footage actually disproving the original video.
If I took a shot every time this guy makes a point about opinions being subjective I would be collapsed on the floor right now with several dozen undrunken shots on the table I never got to finish.
also, the hd model pack just has the guns work incorrectly from a logical standpoint. the normal models make sense because mp5 and glock take from the same ammo pool, which is accurate to real life. an ar-15 and a beretta m9 use different ammo irl but they still take from the same ammo pool. so yes, it IS objectively worse.

In HL1, both the MP5 and the Glock-17 use ammo from the same pool. This is correct. Both guns use a 9mm bullet caliber IRL. However, if you turn on the HD models, the MP5 turns into a Colt Model 727 carbine, which uses 5.56 NATO rounds, and the Glock-17 turns into a Beretta M9, which uses 9mm bullets, like the original Glock. This creates an inconsistency, since both of these guns still take ammo from the same pool in-game, even if they don't use the same caliber IRL. It IS objectively worse in terms of realism.

Some people don't get that some modpacks aren't that much of personal project to be offended by criticism. Yes, creators put effort in them, even in this one, there is some effort made. But it doesn't mean that it's enough to not get criticism, instead, it should be criticized. This is how creators grow, they do silly stuff and get response to it. Noone can do best mod in existence as their first one. So if you are creating mods, or doing maps or something, you should know that criticism IS required for you, and thankly you will get it no matter how good project or aspect of it is. Let's say you don't have control over things people say, but you have absolute control over how to react to it. And yeah, just in case somebody wouldn't get it, I don't mean that people should write hate comments on mods, this is not criticism

As a gldsource and a source modder i can definitely say that purple checker board textures is not exclusive to source engine because checker board textures not even valve's it's from quake engine but in quake you had grey checker board textures when textures is missing

The reason why a lot of maps became so flatly lit is because who ever recompiled the maps, used way too high numbers for the light sources. In half life if you go too bright it won't actually be brighter just more flat. So you are suppose to use low numbers, to have better contrast between dark and light which is in return prettier. It also matters what textures you are using bright textures will scatter more light, there for more flatness.

also, the hd model pack just has the guns work incorrectly from a logical standpoint. the normal models make sense because mp5 and glock take from the same ammo pool, which is accurate to real life. an ar-15 and a beretta m9 use different ammo irl but they still take from the same ammo pool. so yes, it IS objectively worse.

In HL1, both the MP5 and the Glock-17 use ammo from the same pool. This is correct. Both guns use a 9mm bullet caliber IRL.
However, if you turn on the HD models, the MP5 turns into a Colt Model 727 carbine, which uses 5.56 NATO rounds, and the Glock-17 turns into a Beretta M9, which uses 9mm bullets, like the original Glock.
This creates an inconsistency, since both of these guns still take ammo from the same pool in-game, even if they don't use the same caliber IRL.
It IS objectively worse in terms of realism.
