Didn't you see the hourglass trailer, with that last grain of sand showing a symbol of a dragonic eye? Or the red eclipse high in the sky? ( *bars*) If that doesn't scream Onaga, then I don't know what does.
MK 1 villain will almost definitely be Onaga, it was teased in a trailer and Havik along with other characters from MK Deception have a spotlight in the story. Shang Tsung is the preorder character so we'll be lucky if he even shows up in the story mode. Maybe if they do an expansion like Aftermath he'll be in the story but I doubt when the game launches he'll be anything more than a DLC character. Still cool he's coming back IMO he's the best MK villain.
After Stryker, Mileena and Robocop come out the portal... Also Including Rambo and Terminator comes out at portal... Rambo : CEASE!!! Terminator : Before u total doom us all!... Stryker : WHAT THE F------ Lord Liu Kang: Another One?!
Things really came full circle in this story, with the exception of the disappointing Sindel retcon. It ended how it started - with Liu Kang vs Shang Tsung. I hate how they downgraded/downplayed Shao Kahn, Shinnok, and other bosses throughout the series, but they had some great concepts. If the series ended here, I wouldn't be mad. If they made an MK-12, I think the franchise would need a complete makeover.
Eh at least they attempted to give some explanation to the retcon. They tried 🤷♂️, but I was more focused how EPIC the return of Shang Tsung was! Especially in his final fight with Liu Kang! 😍👌🤗
To be fair, Liu's entire plan was let Shang Tsung win, and he'll fight him for the crown. The fight really could've bit Liu in the ass considering Shang Tsung was just taking the souls of the Demi gods, two powerful tyrants, the great spirit's champion (twice), and plenty more.
Fire God Liu Kang is OP asf if his ending is canon (I hope so) which makes me question even more why Shao Kahn was able to defeat him on Kharon's ship. I know he was just his mortal self but if a simple combination of his and Raiden's power is enough to defeat Kronika and Shang Tsung, it goes to show how powerful he is even as a mere mortal.
@@oss956 I think if it were just Mortal Liu Kang who went up against Shang Tsung at the end, Shang would've had the upper hand. Fortunately Fire God Liu Kang is on a whole new level.
Don’t forget that fire god liu kang is actually a 3 fusee (young liu kang revenant liu kang and raiden) you might say shang tsung had many souls absorbed including kronikas herself and the crown but it has been seen in all type of movie or games that overestimate oneself leads to failure
It may not be so bad to serve Shang Tsung after all. However, I must say that Shang Tsung's desire is pretty hollow for someone as cunning has he, rule all realms and then what?
What Shang Tsung really wanted was godhood. It started with Liu Kang vs. Shang Tsung and ended with Liu Kang vs. Shang Tsung. Shang Tsung's hubris and narcissism was what really lead to his downfall.
Beautiful moment with Kung Lao paying respect to Liu Kang, who to him is this powerful transcendent being that has called himself the god of Thunder and fire. As he bows his head, he does not see the homage he is receiving in return, for this god was at one point and in some ways still is, his descendant. Liu Kang knowing this, also bows to the great Kung Lao, whose defense of earth realm started the legacy inherited by Liu Kang all the way to godhood. It all started with Kung Lao and it begins afresh with Kung Lao. Beautiful.
I think it's very fitting that when given the chance, Liu Kang chose to go back and train Kung Lao himself so that his best friend didn't have to feel inferior and become bitter like he did. He truly came to him so that he didn't need to compare himself to Liu Kang because Liu Kang is the one training him to become as strong as possible
"I am God of Fire and Lightning." God of--? "You're not like the Kung Lao I knew." The Kung Lao you knew? "You must be trained." Trained? I couldnt laugh harder than this. xD
Such a perfect cast of a character, he was recasted to fully portrait him in the reboot of the series. I love Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, he put so much depth to the character and this game helped him make his character just! Never forget that at the original game Shang Tsung was somewhat "flat" person. He added all these layers to the character, making him a fan favourite and a global phenomenal!
He added a certain depth to the character that made his personality and demeanor unique, a little mysterious, sneaky, malicious, cold, calm, calculated and of course a manipulator. He brought this character to life with his portrayal. That's why there's no other version of shang that outmatches Cary in Mk11 and in the first movie. Not even Mk1 Shang could match up to Mk11 Shang's design and demeanor. Probably one of the few reasons why I liked Mk11. Also Mk11 shao kahn had the best design aswell compared to Mk1.
This ending fits well with a longtime theory of mine-after mk11 and its expansions, i predict Netherrealm will create a “MK Legends” game centered on earlier tournaments before the modern era. Youd see the great kung lao, a young goro, a much younger sindel, and other age old characters.
@@wally4087 She probably will be the same; I'm confident Liu Kang didn't touch anything else in the timeline besides making Kung Lao the chosen one in the past, he likely just restored it back to where it was after that
This would have been perfect if it happenes in the future, I feel like the main MK story has been driven waaay too long, not to mention a few re-writes. They should absolutely do this after the final Liu Kang vs Shang Tsung epic final battle.
Well,he was the first one to be able to ressurrect dead people,Making his army dangerously fearless, besides it also took shao Khan to poison him cowardly for him to die, meaning he couldn't take onaga on fairly,he might not be as strong as he was in deception, but he must be almost Elder god levels of strong
Not exactly. Blaze is confirm to be more powerful than Onaga (Ed Boon state during Armageddon promo that Blaze was "at the top of the food chain" during that time). @@kingatlanofatlantis3075 Ummm, Liu Kang is now in Raiden's place? He is not needed at all as things are now. He could appear as a fighter tho since he HAD to exist before being chosen as a Demi-God by the Elder Gods.
We most definitely see him. It looks like were heading the Mortal Kombat tournament where the great Kung Lao died. Is so we're going to see him fight Goro, and if he ends up winning, he has to fight Shang Tsung. It looks like there rebooting the series and replacing Lui Kang and Raiden with Kung Lao and Lui Kang as a god.
There's something VERY poetic about Shang Tsung's death in this clip. He was cursed by the Elder Gods to rapidly age until his untimely demise for cheating in the Mortal Kombat tournament with the only means of staving it off being to steal the souls of his victims. Tsung gains Kronika's Crown and absorbs her power to circumvent that and bend the universe to his will but ends up being turned to dust before he could even get started by his adversary who had attained godhood. Fire God Liu Kang was right about Shang Tsung choosing that fate. Anything related to Tsung most likely gets curtailed when Liu Kang restarted time and created a better timeline. Surprised the Great Kung Lao finally gets some screentime here. It was his death by Goro's hand that started Earthrealm's losing streak in the Mortal Kombat tournament. With Liu Kang's training, there's no doubt in my mind the outcome will be different. Which in turn would change a number of things. Wouldn't be surprised if Shinnok and Cetrion never existed in Liu Kang's New Era due to the fact they were Kronika's ill begotten children. No Shinnok also means no Quan Chi to worship him which also means no Shirai Ryu massacre.
Shang's death was poetic. But I still find it crazy how the Elder Gods cursed one man just for cheating and by doing that they caused a lot of harm to be done because THEIR curse on him. Like why curse him to steal souls? That just sounds villainous. Elder Gods aren't the smartest lol.
To me Shang Tsung win seem to be much more believable, he absorbed everyone power while Liu Kang just got more power from his Revenant and Raiden. But Liu Kang win seem more plausible, he could uses the Hourglass to see all different possibility after all. He has more times to come up with a plan to beat Shang Tsung.
I mean we never know the limit of a double elements god. 1 combine with 1 does not always equal 2, just like some chemical reaction, it could be more than 2, All we know is that he can overpower aTitan for sure.
You need to know Liu Kang planned all that from the very beginning. Shang Tsung absorbed everyone power was all according to his plan to end the circle so of course he know how to win at the end.
FireGod Liu Kang is not just a mixture of Liu Kang and Raiden. Rember that his skills are far superior to anyone else. Also, he has the Earth's JinSei flowing through him. After he attained Godhood, using the JinSei became easier for him. Shang Tsung may be a collector of souls and power but he will always be short of truth and goodness.
As he turns to sand and falls apart, when he reaches up to Liu Kang, all I could think of was "You who are without mercy now plead for it? I thought you were made of sterner stuff."
Heres the thing in my thoughts about this, Since there is a newer Era with the ending (good) revealing the Descendant Kung lao meeting Liu kang what would this mean for Mortal kombat Is Mk11 truly the last mortal kombat game or will there be a reboot (reboot is less likely since the reboot is a semi new/old to mk11) Or could Mk12 show the following events of liu kangs New Era Edit: or we can get Kombat Kart 2
They should make a proper open world mk game like deception with a story that doesn’t appeal to 8 year olds and feminists. Then we would have a good mortal Kombat game.

Also poetic for him to do it.
Shang Tsung: And to ensure victory, you sacrificed the lives of your friends.
Lui Kang: The hardest choices require the strongest wills.
I thinks that's the reason they make this ending. It's open a whole new level of possibility for the game.
Well, I've read somewhere, can't remember where, that this will be Ed Boon's last MK game. Maybe he'll retire after this or Injustice 3?
I loved how they upgrade Shang Tsung
@@KabroSaavedra Yea, Shang Tsung got to really shine in this game. THAT, I was glad about!
Eh at least they attempted to give some explanation to the retcon. They tried 🤷♂️, but I was more focused how EPIC the return of Shang Tsung was! Especially in his final fight with Liu Kang! 😍👌🤗
This is a great moment because he spends the whole story with a smug ass look on his face
OSS who was the second Titan? I only count Kronika.
Seems like shang tsung wanted subjects and service. How many people did he offer servitude to him?
It may not be so bad to serve Shang Tsung after all. However, I must say that Shang Tsung's desire is pretty hollow for someone as cunning has he, rule all realms and then what?
@@khai96x Lmao he probably thought the same thing when it happened (in the him wining ending xD)
He got lazy and order minions to do it for him.
What Shang Tsung really wanted was godhood. It started with Liu Kang vs. Shang Tsung and ended with Liu Kang vs. Shang Tsung. Shang Tsung's hubris and narcissism was what really lead to his downfall.
The hell is Shang Sung?
Beautiful moment with Kung Lao paying respect to Liu Kang, who to him is this powerful transcendent being that has called himself the god of Thunder and fire.
As he bows his head, he does not see the homage he is receiving in return, for this god was at one point and in some ways still is, his descendant. Liu Kang knowing this, also bows to the great Kung Lao, whose defense of earth realm started the legacy inherited by Liu Kang all the way to godhood. It all started with Kung Lao and it begins afresh with Kung Lao. Beautiful.
I like how you put that...very poetic
Ohh, nicely put, you're right. Mk1 story however doesn't feature kung lao as major tho. It's raiden.

Who would have thought we would ever have an entire MK story revolving around Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa's Shang Tsung.
It's always so great how Kung Lao finally gets that chance that he always wanted. Even if he never knows it now
Flawless Victory, because now Shang Tsung. It’s now over, for you.
This ending fits well with a longtime theory of mine-after mk11 and its expansions, i predict Netherrealm will create a “MK Legends” game centered on earlier tournaments before the modern era. Youd see the great kung lao, a young goro, a much younger sindel, and other age old characters.
Younger sindel better not be the thot that she is in this timeline. NRS better correct her retcon in the next game
Sindel would've been dead around the time the tournament with the great kung lao happens
@@wally4087 She probably will be the same; I'm confident Liu Kang didn't touch anything else in the timeline besides making Kung Lao the chosen one in the past, he likely just restored it back to where it was after that
They better fucking fix sindel then, because her reton sucked ass and completly ruined her character
This would have been perfect if it happenes in the future, I feel like the main MK story has been driven waaay too long, not to mention a few re-writes.
They should absolutely do this after the final Liu Kang vs Shang Tsung epic final battle.
When Liu Kang and Shang Tsung are about to fight it feels like I’m watching the 1995 MK movie all over again
The shang tsung voice actor absolutely killed it in this game. It was the dude from the 90s movie too
Onaga needs to make a return. I mean his power level was so badass that Kronika was probably like keep his ass dead
Kronika didn't even bother to bring Blaze back. Is not about which villain is stronger to aid Kronika, is about who Kronika saw can help Shinnok and Cetrion become the ultimate good vs evil aka eternal balance

"Mr. Kang, I don't feel so good..."
That translates to "Mr. Kang, I feel so good..."
" No more timelines will be twisted by your evil...at least, not until we reboot the franchise, for the third time in less than a decade."
To me Shang Tsung win seem to be much more believable, he absorbed everyone power while Liu Kang just got more power from his Revenant and Raiden.
But Liu Kang win seem more plausible, he could uses the Hourglass to see all different possibility after all. He has more times to come up with a plan to beat Shang Tsung.
it's implied and stated that's what he did also it was true essence raiden
I mean we never know the limit of a double elements god. 1 combine with 1 does not always equal 2, just like some chemical reaction, it could be more than 2, All we know is that he can overpower aTitan for sure.
You need to know Liu Kang planned all that from the very beginning. Shang Tsung absorbed everyone power was all according to his plan to end the circle so of course he know how to win at the end.
Remember that Shang Tsung has fought Liu Kang multiple times while already consuming souls before hand. This match up is no different.
