That's a sweet little saw. The first saw I ever used was a Homlite super xl. It was blue. Had a manual oiler in it. I remember when I first started using it I would forget to use the oiler and dad would get on me if I had too much oil left in the tank when it was time for fuel.

My Grandfather was the first Homelite dealer in our area of Ohio in the early 1950's. Most people today base their opinion of Homelite on the lesser quality stuff produced after they were bought out. Back in the day they made a lot of nice stuff. Dad has a soft spot for them naturally and have the stash of parts and such from Grandpa.

one of my earliest memories is going with my dad to buy a new Homelite back in the mid seventies, think I was around five or six...First chainsaw I ever put my hands on. Still have the case for it but the saw was stolen many years ago, man I wish I still had it.

I love the videos you post. I lost my father last year to cancer. You remind me of him in a lot of different ways. Probably sounds weird. But I can get lost in the videos and remember all of this kinda stuff I did with him and helps me deal with the loss. Thank you, may your saw always cut true.

Everyone should handle at least once, a good running Homie. I started with a 55 Super Wiz, brass log teeth and 1/2" chain. It wasn't fast but it would chew through anything you laid it on. In my youthful wisdom back in the early 90's I traded it as part payment on a new 084. I wish I had that boat anchor 55 today.

    Bucken Billy,
For me your video was just ok, but the best part was those special words at the end, which really inspired me. Came to watch your video because last night I found a homelight super xl automatic during my nightly walk that was put out for trash pickup. I live in a city type enviorment and always question would I be happier without the city regulations, out in rural country?? All the best from New Rochelle N.Y.

Billy, you have inspired me to get out my ole Super XL and get it going again. Do you know a source for parts if I need any? Back in the day I cut down a nice red oak with 2 Super XL's one was blue and one was a bit newer in red. After a good hand filing on both we started to buck the trunk. The sound of power coming out of those two saws was amazing, dueling chainsaws. That was a good day, a 34" tree and a 16" bar and it was no problem for the Homelites. Keep up the great videos.

  • @michaeldougfir9807

Brother Billy, I have an idea for you. When you demonstrate a well sharpened chain, how about zooming in on the chips. Pick up a few and show us how big they are. (That's a good sign. ) A good chip should be as big as a tooth on the chain, maybe more.

Please take no offense, I have only run a couple of Homelite chain saws, one was really old when I was a kid(40 years ago now). But I cannot remember the model number, only thing I can really remember was the color: light blue grey sort of(I think). It was the most gawd-awful thing, never could get it started, and it VIBRATED wicked bad. It was such an awful thing that it almost turned me sour on chainsaws.(really) It probably just needed the attention of a pro like yourself. But I was just a kid 10-15 years old(didn't know a darn thing, still don't lol). However, after typing that "book" it seems to me your XL 76 is a real nice running useable saw, sounds real good too!!!!

Hello matey, they are Stihl MS200t top handles, they don't make them anymore but there's the MS201t-cm instead. The 200t is the one folk love but the new 201tcm is still a good saw. When the 201 first came out it was just called the 201t, it wasn't so good so try and make sure it's the 201tcm you get, which it should be if it's new. You can get 200t's on eBay but you'll pay a fair whack for them. Hope that helps and I'm sure Buckin will be along to confirm. Take care :)

Billy I notice when you sharpen your chains, you always do a slight twist of your hand at the end of the stroke! Is there a reason for that? I do know for certain, a dull chain is a royal pain, not to mention it makes cutting a total nightmare!!
