      Its worth saying that Matrix got inspration from a lot of other older movies that is less known in the western world.
      One of those it got a lot of inspiration from is Ghost in the Shell. While its a very diffrent movie, both sceens and some core concepts are very simular, some times close to identical.
      The lobby scene in the matrix is pretty much a live action remake of Ghost in the Shell

    I wouldn't say Agent Smith is my favourite character but Hugh Weaving's portrayal is impeccable. The tone of voice, the cadence, and the pauses. It is the pauses that sell it. He says more with a split second pause than many actors can say in minutes of dialogue.

    14:41 Fun fact, Mell: The battery thing wasn't in the original script. Originally, humans were supposed to be the neural network machines needed in order to process, thus why they put humans in the Matrix. The human body would make a *terrible* battery. As Futurama said, potatoes are better batteries than humans will ever be. However, one executive basically said, "I don't understand what a network is, so I assume no one else will. Make people batteries, because everyone understands batteries," and the Wachowski's were literally forced to change that detail.
    BONUS FUN FACT: In the Matrix itself, they didn't just tint things green, they also quite literally dyed all the clothes a light green color for added effect. XD

    • @razorfett147
      @razorfett147 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    The original Matrix is a perfect ramp of a movie, and as far as "Hero's Journey" movies are concerned it still doesn't have many contenders all these years later. Always loved that Morpheus avoided the Obi-Wan treatment that mentors usually get in these stories, to the point where the entire last act is all about *not* letting him die. Just gave the stakes more heart than if they were just taking down a doomsday weapon.

  • @krautgazer
    @krautgazer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    The whole thing about Neo being the one is implicitly explained in the Oracle scene with the vase. She explains the concept of self-fulfillment prophecy: would he had broken the vase had she not told him beforehand? She truly does not know if he's the one or not, neither does Morpheus, which later tells Trinity: "do you now know the difference between knowing the path and WALKING the path?". They were simply betting on Neo but he fulfilled the prophecy himself by simply believing he was the one. If I remember correctly, Neo wasn't even the first one Morpheus believed in. There were others before him.

      I'm not sure exactly which way you meant the last part so I'm going to answer both ways I could interpret. 1) Neo wasn't the first that morpheus thought was the one. 2) In the 3rd film the architect said in each version of the world there was the one, but no one ever said there was more than one " the one" at a time in the same world. It would undo the whole "the one" thing.

His story was in the animatrix and it showed how he found out the world was off like neo did but basically jumped off a building while also believing somehow he’d also not die but wake up which he did. He woke up in his pod like neo but on his own and got saved like the rest.

We didn’t have unlimited internet or smartphones we had to go places for the information like when the hype before matrix 2 was coming you had to buy the soundtrack because it had secret stuff on it if you put it into your computer. Also the animatrix was released which had 9 stories that basically explained everything and to top it off you had to buy enter the matrix for Xbox or ps2 because the wachowskis filmed an entire extra hour of film for part two that was included in the game that tied into part 2 and setup part 3. To answer one of your questions, when the Agents get "killed" it does revert back to whoever they had possessed. You can see this when they're on the roof during the Morpheus rescue. The Agent takes over the helicopter pilot, but when Trinity pulls the "Dodge this" shot, you get a bit of slowmo as the Agent falls, but before he hits the ground you get that Matrix modem scream sound effect and a sparky lightshow as he turns back to the helicopter pilot.

    Another fun fact: reportedly in the original draft, humans plugged into the Matrix were originally supposed to be a sort of collective CPU to help the machines be more intelligent and self aware. Executives felt not enough of the audience would understand WTF a "CPU" was (remember, this was 1999) so they changed it to "humans as batteries," even though the Wachowskis, IIRC, admitted they knew when writing this that a human would need more energy to be kept alive than what their bodies would produce.

    The funny thing is that Morpheus' lesson, "stop trying to hit me and hit me", gets echoed throughout the rest of the film whenever Neo starts overthinking or letting his doubts cloud his ability. 26:22 It's funny you say that. Both of those agents have names, we just never learn them in-universe. In keeping with the common American white dude theme of names like Agent Smith, the other two are named Agents Jones and Brown.

    When I came across the Mandela effect I really tripped out. Makes one question reality. Conspiracy theories that I’m on the fence over…the moon landing, aliens, being in or living through alternate realities.

    She told him what he thought. She said right before that. "BEING the one is like being in Love, no one can tell you that you are the one you just know it"
    Then she said "maybe in your next life"
    She literally tells you the ending of the movie and how he finally walks into being the one.

    Had to bust out laughing with any thought of AI in Matrix being like AI we're working on now - we're not even not even remotely close to something like that being possible within our lifetime - they're both "AI" in name only

    Since you're reacting The Matrix, you need to react The Animatrix!! Different animations, different stories and different visualizations of The Matrix. It's a total of seven tales and it's only 102 minutes!! You won't be disappointed!!

    When Neo shot at The Agent on the roof that dodged all his shots, Neo must be a horrible shot. Not because he missed The Agent, but because Neo missed The Agent AND the glass building behind The Agent. You know you're a bad shot when you miss a whole glass wall and the person in front of it.

    My favorite was actually the third one, Revolutions. It's the only one I've seen that decided to be at least a LITTLE self aware of how ridiculous the plot was to the point that they let it end on what was basically a Dragon Ball Z battle with an explosion and a rainbow.

    When i was in my teens i actually stopped a robbery in my neighborhood after i heard a voice calling me in the middle of the night. I was sleeping and a male voice told me to wake up and look out of the window so i did, and there was a man dressed in black holding a crowbar near a store that's in front of our house. He started hitting the door several times without success, i saw him walking back & forth like he didn't know what to do but went back to hitting the door several times. Anyway, I called my mom, my mom called my aunt and she called the owners of the store who called the police. It's crazy but there were two officers very near so they arrived quickly at the place. Sadly, when the robber saw the police car lights, he ran away. I don't know if he was ever found, but that happened to me one time and i still can't explain what was the voice i heard and why i was chosen to stop that man from robbing that store. My mom told me not to say anything to the police as i was a minor, but i saw the man who did it, and my description could have helped catch him. Btw, days later, someone did manage to break in but from the back. They opened a hole on the wall and stole all the food. 😕

    26:12 I like right there she asks Cypher for his phone and he goes digging into his pocket but it's not there cause he planted it for the agents to trace. But someone else hands her a phone and it just gets brushed off. They don't suspect him right away from his missing phone.

    Little detail a lot of folks miss, Switch calls Neo copper top the first time they meet, before the battery explanation, because he's still plugged in. Also why they pulled the gun on him there, an agent could still take him over.

    The Wachowski's did do V for Vendetta and a Netflix mini series (2 seasons) of a sci fi show called Sense 8... This is a very interesting show cause it dealt with so many issues from many different perspectives as well as being shot around the world - literally - with a cast that was - literally - from around the world.
    Also the "brothers" were going through their own transitions to the Wachowski sisters... It was so interesting but difficult for many to follow cause it was not a linear thinking show - you really had to step out the box and say "but, what if humans could do this?"...
