Garrett Parker i has a pw80, crf70, crf100/ it was too big so i went back to a crf70 then got a ds90, 1994 yz80, 2016 husqvarna tc85, 09 crf150rb, and now i'm racing my 2018 kx100
Great video, and I gotta say, Alexis is a gem! Your a lucky man to have such a sweetie that not only encourages your passion, but wants to join in and share in the fun!
... Subscribed!! I used to ride and race between 1972 to 1985. It was my addiction. Could not get enough. Videos like yours may get me back on the dirt. I can't put into words how cool it is having your (gorgeous) wife ride with you and others! Doing that together will be creating more than a lifetime of memories. Soooo cool!!! Wishing you both all the best! . Jeff .
Love this whole series with the kx, crf and now this. It’s so hard to find some wife’s a decent trail bike that isn’t ridiculously heavy and under sprung for legitimate trail riding.
These KTM two stroke bikes are outstanding. The smooth clutch makes the bike easier to control in slow sections than the bikes I grew up with. When I was a teenager, at about 5'-4" with short legs, I was riding a CR500. I could only touch on one side with my butt hanging off of the seat. No problem. When things got tough, I just jumped from one side to the other, trying to get a foot down. Admittedly, being a man, I was probably a bit stronger than her. Just keep moving. Your feet go on the pegs, not the ground. Big tires and big suspension are more important off road than seat height; even for slow technical riding, imo. And two strokes are light. Ideal for off road, imo. Great job Alexis, and great choice!
I lowered my 2017 KTM 250 EXC-f two inches (I am 5'8", my bike stock is 37.8" seat height). I could ride just fine on the stock height, but in the gnarly rocks and steep stuff here in Colorado I was having a little bit harder time paddling up that stuff. Had to lean too much to one side or the other. Was pretty nervous about lowering it and thought about maybe going 1 inch lower, but ultimately decided on 2 inches. It has been wonderful. No change to geometry or handling, but way easier to keep my feet on the ground to get up the steep, rocky stuff while paddling. So glad I lowered mine.
My wife doesn't require any lowering, but she had a 99 125exc with a FWW and it was a great bike. Picked up a 13 200xc-w with an estart for her. She didn't have problems starting it, but its just nice. It has a FFW on it and its not jetted super crisp, but she can lug it and it does well. Just need to replace the choke on it.
When I saw your FB post I was like, NO WAY, riiiiight, but damn, this is cool. Lowering it makes sense, hell, I even want an inch less on my Beta. The XTrainer would have been good because it's pretty mild on the power delivery, but the suspension is total trash. I'm sure you got all the power valve springs for this KTM, I'd toss in the soft hitting one for her. That is a serious bike fosho! BIG, BIG Props to her for getting a full size bike! The lowend is going to be a game changer for her, that and the magic button! One of these days we'll have to meet up and ride for sure!
Horrible choice for a short person. The KTM has the PDS rear suspension. Expensive to lower and can only be lowered around 50mm. Most linkage bikes can be lowered 4" or more for less than $100.
I have a couple of these carby 18 s ,they are great bikes ,put a an aftermarket head and a JD jetting kit in the Mikuni , cleared up the blubbery issue with the carb off the bottom D👍
💯 agree with puttin ‘er on this bike. I bought my Son a 150XCW last November. Since that time it’s been one engine upgrade after another trying to get more low end power out of it. What i saved in weight I sacrificed in power. He actually does better on my 250XC because of the extra grunt it has.
Great job Tanner👍 just an option as well, I am vertically challenged lol and apart from doing both of the bike lowering options, I got Sidi crossfire boots that soles can be interchanged, I got the enduro soles which give a bit more height and grip👍. As far as geometry goes from lowering(Bla Bla Bla), drop front to match back and set static sag to suit weight, springs maybe a great idea if sag cannot be achieved. Don’t be afraid to cut seat, there are some great vids on how to do this yourself, it will also dramatically lower seat height and well ya stand most of the time right, so when a dab is needed the confidence is there. Hope this helps. Goodluck Alexis👍 awesome your giving it a go!
Don't let your height stop you from having fun. I'm 5''4" and been riding for over 30 years. Current weapon is a 2017 YZ250X with a SmartCarb, Stealthy flywheel weight and Scott's stabilizer BRRAAAAAAAAAAP🤘
At least tanner spending his money on dritbikes and Alexus looks good own that ktm its about time she's on a 250 and not a little bike but when she gets it lowerd to where she fills comfortable own she'll be able too ride like crazy
Thanks for the video! My wife rides a KLX230 that she loves, but wanting more power. She test road a KTM 250 up in Flaming Gorge this summer. She liked the geometry, but wants 4T. She road my KTM 500 EXCF yesterday and did great, but so tall for her. Going to test rid a 2020 Husky FE350s today. Already all uncorked, GET ECU, etc. We'll see!
If your trail rides are shorter than 20 miles in length, may I suggest you try a Sur-Ron X electric motorcycle (dirt bike). It is LIGHT 105 lbs, low seat height 31 inches, and still has very good capability on trails if the rear sprocket gets changed (comes with 48T - recommend 54T or higher). It's cheap (less than $4k brand new shipped), and is an excellent transition bike for learning the handling skills on before going to heavier (200 pound+) trail bikes. I own a 2017 Beta 300 Xtrainer 300, GREAT bike plenty of power and suspension is good for lower speed trail riding, but it is STILL tall at 35.8 inch seat height. I lowered mine by buying a one inch lower seat, sent the forks and shock out for height and revalving lowered 2 more inches. It helped a LOT with my 28 inch inseam.
How does the ktm & beta x have the same height? 960mm vs 910mm, that's 2 inches difference... The beta also has thicker seat foam you could easily shave at least another inch off, so you're already 3 inches lower without touching suspension/geometry.
@@Straubberry My bad, heard seat height somewhere. For the record the x trainer is not a toy or stepping stone, there are some talented 'vertically challenged' riders out there that love them for the lower height and they'll go anywhere a ktm, husky, sherco etc will go. Either way have fun on your new ktm because that's ultimately what it's all about ;)
The other thing you can do is slide the forks up a little and same with the spring too. I am only 153cm and did it to most of my bikes and it helps and didn’t seem to change how they handled
Hi guys, just picked up a 300 Xtrainer omg wife and daughter loss their minds on how good it is my wife is 5’4” and my daughter is only 14 now we are on the hunt for a second, as a big bore 4 stroke rider I’m blown away I’ve loved my 480rr (500rs) but it make me think maybe a 300rr would be great on our harder rides. Looking forward to seeing you out together, cheers from Australia 👍👍👍👍
Next video title: "Alexis buys her first cr500!! SO FAST" Lmao! Congrats on the bike! you can try the seat and lower the triple clamps a inch or less as well but if it effects the handling put it back up. Enjoy it!!
With her looks and personality, KTM could move a lot of bikes. They should hire her to advertise and build that bike how ever she wants and needs. Especially with more men AND women getting into riding. I agree with something that you all mentioned before. These companies should gear the bigger bikes towards fitting smaller riders.
I have an 04 rm250 I bought new in 05. I've yet to rebuild the lower end. Still all original factory parts. I've changed the piston once. There have been seasons that I've haven't ridden. But my guestimate is somewhere around 150 ish hours. It runs good and has good compression. Doesn't mean I'm not riding a time bomb though. Fingers crossed. I'll try and rebuild this winter.
u kno u got that bike so u have another bike u can pull and swap parts to and from!! but njoii make her safe and lower that bad boy and she will acclimate to the machine and already seems like she has fallen in love with the ktm.... love it brother please buy me a bike ill be your film dude for a couple years hows that sound... id even be happy with a pit bike..... help a fellow flame head out broham!! love u guys u make a kick-butt couple!! awesome content love your trail ride videos bro god bless!! -p3t3r
I sent mine out to race tech and they set my suspension an inch shorter and being set to her weight plus theres an Enduro seat will drop another inch and the pro circuit linkage that's 3mm shorter helps with the tail dropping just a little more. My wife is five ft and her same exact bike as yours she has both toes on the ground COMFORTABLY
Half of the MX pros could barely touch. It's just a matter of getting used to it. Heck, even Tomac uses starting blocks. Webb, the Martin brothers, Osbourne, Stewart, Carmichael, are all little guys and they have done just fine.
I've re-thought my perspective on a full size bike for Alexis. I now think that a KX100 or CRF150F would be the perfect bike for her, and a full sized bike just seems forced. She'll probably do fine, since she seems to be a trooper, but she will ultimately be more comfortable, and maybe safer, on one of the smaller bikes.
Not sure you will see this comment in time but MCR Suspension up here in Mi does an amazing job on everything suspension and performance related. Matt the owner used to race pro and now his son also races pro. He has done all my suspension work and many people I know. Makes it very easy to ship your forks and shocks out to him as well! Worth giving him a call for sure!
Spacers to lower both shock and forks internally. Perhaps a throttle tamer as well? A 250 enduro 2 stroke is a lot of bike. I ride an XTrainer and it's great - small frame, low seat height, bucket loads of low end grunt - superb in woods/ technical trails. The XT is very poor in open fast terrain (but not as bad as the freeride). Hope you both enjoy your new machines, stay safe!
You should try a KLX 140L change the front sprocket to a 12 tooth, and maybe some other mods. Its a great trail bike that is fun and fairly light. low seat height and electric start. the suspension has alot of settings.
Thats' an amazing bike, I rode one for a full day and totally fell in love with it. That's great you got a good deal. Hey, don't forget to donate to someone in help or to an animal shelter.!
Trooper for sure. Spring Rate is first, probably needs changing, forks, and rear Factory rate is probably for a 150, 160 lbish rider without gear. Adjust Sag Re valving Internal lowering for the forks is usually suggested over lowering links Inner fork lowering link I've seen Slaven's Racing recommended, by some good people, he might have Fork kits as well, not sure... She probably has the throttle down by now, as you say, but others (inluding myself) might benefit from a throttle Tamer, I've seen on amazon, 70- $80.00.. Cam Action, brilliant design. Well after all that, this is 4 years after the fact and she'd probably on to another bike by now... 🤔 😅
Ryan da 5’ 916 yea it’s a struggle I’m 16 but A 125s height is nice but when your turning on a hill and lay it over it’s not, I went on the side of a hill to avoid a log on the trail and laid it over the bike fell on top of me it felt just amazing
Agree,a X trainer would have been a LOT easier to learn to ride on mountain trails.they are way lower in seat height and they are geared perfect for tight trails.def my I want bike, and I ride a pumpkin.
Instead, send the forks and shock out for lowering internally, that way the fork and shock are still functioning as intended, and revalved and sprung for rider weight accordingly. Lowering links change the bikes handling detrimentally, especially when riding faster.
That bike is sick, and if she already has clutch and throttle control then it was the smart buy. Now she can grow into the bike instead of outgrowing multiple bikes. Good riding to the both of you!
An xc might of been a better candidate to lower with the linkage rear shock. It is a lot of bike for her but easier to ride then a small bore two stroke because of its ability to lug. Good luck with the new bike be careful it has a lot of power.
Always love seeing Diesel! Alexis I used to ride with a short lady that couldn't touch the ground with both feet. She got a pair of boots that she had the soles and heels replaced with really thick ones that raised her about 2-3 inches.
Don't know if someone already mentioned it but ktm has this power valve spring which you can replace whit a stiffer/softer spring for more peaky or smoother power delivery. Maybe the smoother one makes it even easier to ride. Spring is just 2$
That's a great dirtbike! You should try NGK iridium spark plug, they are a bit more pricey, but they give more spark at low rpm than conventional NGK, (for the logging), and i've NEVER fouled a plug, even when i've put jets to 3 size bigger for test purpose, great video as always!
We ride at Wayne as well! Maybe we will see you there. We have the same story with seat height. Got the Beta XT for my wife, she liked it but over time didn't like how tall it was for her (she has ridden Hatfield McCoys, Shawnee, Wayne, Saddleback, etc). Moved to a KX100 for her and my son and they will start IXCR this season for fun. In the long run she might be back on the XT.
I've been thinking lately that these bikes are too tall and heavy for most riders. A 85 SX weighs ~150 lb. And a 125 trail bike which is just a touch bigger weighs ~70 lb more? Crazy. Even the Beta Xtrainer is basically the same weight as the 300. The frames are built to withstand falling 20 feet to flat with a 200lb rider on it or something... I think I'm going to have to try an 85 one of these days, and maybe figure out how to get the 150 xcw engine into it if I realllly like the frame.
Motolab dirt bikes. Rob is awesome and totally dedicated to getting everything right for you. Best investment I ever did on any machine I've had. It's not real cheap but totally worth the grand or so to get it done. I had my 200xc lowered 2 inches, resprung for my weight and all revalved. Do not try to go the Ghetto route on her suspension. Spend the money and get it right. You will both be glad you did.
When I was younger i use to hope off the bike when I would stop lol good times. Killer score on the bike. It is nice being able to power out of sugar sand an turns
I installed lowering links on my DR-Z 400 and it made a world of difference! Much more confident now. I come from a motocross background and I was wondering how to set up the rear shock with the links installed? The "sag" setting has been taken out completely with the links and I don't know where to set the spring preload for my light weight of only 130lbs. Anyone have thoughts?
Great bike but I never thought of those as good beginner bikes. I’ve been riding for 50 years and I never needed to go 80 mph on trails. Now if she is working towards hard enduro I say go for it!
The thing is, they are just about the lightest bikes you can get. The 250 is only 15 lbs heavier than the 125. Light weight, big tires, big suspension. These are the things that matter off road, imo, even in tight slow sections. You don't have to go fast to appreciate how capable they are.
Thanks for sharing! I didnt drink the orange juice, but almost went with a 250 XCW (ended up with TE250i). For the vertically challenged, you could start with ktm factory lower height seat (15mm lower than stock), Zeta Front fork and Rear shock lowering kit (30mm drop front/rear) about an 1.5in total drop in height without altering (too much), the suspension geometry (like a lowering link and triple tree fork drop would do). That drop setup should get the girlfriend touching the ground on both big toes no problem. Good Luck!
Can you pass the forks through the trees .75" or so to steal some height? Kouba makes great lowering links, unsure what options you have on the KTM, no linkage right?
Hey! I'm 5'1 and have been riding a CRF250L, kinda comfortable with it but I am planning to jump onto an XR400 to learn about the carbs and kick starts. I was wondering, how do you kick start as a short person? Thanks!
Noah Sussman when they were driving at the beginning they said they went over to the same area to pick up another bike we haven’t Seen yet, and it’s a Crf 125, I saw on his instagram.

Thank you for the suggestion!
She handles the power just fine, we will be getting it lowered though! Thanks for watching Ron.
That's where the duel sport tires came from
You should try a KLX 140L change the front sprocket to a 12 tooth, and maybe some other mods. Its a great trail bike that is fun and fairly light. low seat height and electric start. the suspension has alot of settings.
Teamwork make the dream work
Thats' an amazing bike, I rode one for a full day and totally fell in love with it. That's great you got a good deal. Hey, don't forget to donate to someone in help or to an animal shelter.!
They are amazing! And for sure!
Yes just get it lowered and and change later if need be 👍👍
Trooper for sure.
Spring Rate is first, probably needs changing, forks, and rear
Factory rate is probably for a 150, 160 lbish rider without gear.
Adjust Sag
Re valving
Internal lowering for the forks is usually suggested over
lowering links Inner fork lowering link
I've seen Slaven's Racing recommended, by some good people,
he might have Fork kits as well, not sure...
She probably has the throttle down by now, as you say,
but others (inluding myself) might benefit from a throttle Tamer,
I've seen on amazon, 70- $80.00.. Cam Action, brilliant design.
Well after all that, this is 4 years after the fact and she'd probably
on to another bike by now...
🤔
😅
I have the same struggle on my kx 125 and I’m 5 ft 9
Ryan da 5’ 916 yea it’s a struggle I’m 16 but A 125s height is nice but when your turning on a hill and lay it over it’s not, I went on the side of a hill to avoid a log on the trail and laid it over the bike fell on top of me it felt just amazing
I think the X trainer would suit her great, extremely linear smooth power, lower seat height and smaller frame, these bikes are very nimble.
Man I followed a guy on a beta x trainer and that thing in 1st gear could just put around at the slowest speeds and not stall. It was nuts.
Agree,a X trainer would have been a LOT easier to learn to ride on mountain trails.they are way lower in seat height and they are geared perfect for tight trails.def my I want bike, and I ride a pumpkin.
KTM has a 2' lowering kit that will help alot
We will definitely be getting her one!
Thank you! That’s the plan!
This is so excellent! You two are great!
Nice bike Alexis! I'm so happy for you getting the bike you will keep for the long haul!
Hell yeah, im stoked!
An xc might of been a better candidate to lower with the linkage rear shock. It is a lot of bike for her but easier to ride then a small bore two stroke because of its ability to lug. Good luck with the new bike be careful it has a lot of power.
While I agree it can still be lowered internally! We both prefer the XCW’s low first gear.
Always love seeing Diesel! Alexis I used to ride with a short lady that couldn't touch the ground with both feet. She got a pair of boots that she had the soles and heels replaced with really thick ones that raised her about 2-3 inches.
2 Stroke!!!!
Whhhhaaaaaattttttt 🤯🤯🤯. Legends
Great buy. If you find a good suspension shop in your area it's probably worth letting them do it. Maybe work a deal for some promo 👍
Don't know if someone already mentioned it but ktm has this power valve spring which you can replace whit a stiffer/softer spring for more peaky or smoother power delivery. Maybe the smoother one makes it even easier to ride. Spring is just 2$
Next it's 1000cc streetbikes!
Ktm 1290 adventure bikes!😎
Man bro the orange blossom is clean real clean you come up on some good ones
That's a great dirtbike! You should try NGK iridium spark plug, they are a bit more pricey, but they give more spark at low rpm than conventional NGK, (for the logging), and i've NEVER fouled a plug, even when i've put jets to 3 size bigger for test purpose, great video as always!
Thank you for the suggestion!
In the long run she might be back on the XT.
lol so really tanner got a new bike and Alexis got the hammy down.
Nice video..! Her smile is infectious..! And I only have 5 bikes...I’m way behind..lol
Definitely fooled me! I think it's awesome she is riding a full size bike in 4 months!
Thank you Rick! 😊
Monstrous fossil beast. Could she please revv it until it blows? That would make one hell of a show! ; )
Congratulations Alexis!
Dude I’m 5’9 and I’m bout to get a 2021 exc 350 and it’s getting lowered 2 inches
I ride with an old timer that's a really good rider and he's short. He put 1.5in blocks on the bottom of his boots. Just an idea.
I’m 5.2 I love my 450x I just jump on that kickstart like my life depends on it
Turd Butt 😂
''Blocks'', what exactly do you mean by blocks please? Of wood??
Thank you.
@@tpv59 yes sir.
When I was younger i use to hope off the bike when I would stop lol good times. Killer score on the bike. It is nice being able to power out of sugar sand an turns
Gotta do what ya gotta do! Power is always nice to have when you need it.
I have a ktm 250 xc and got new lowered suspension. Much better on the trails. I'm 5'3"
Good to hear Dena!
You don't have to go fast to appreciate how capable they are.
if megs brap can do it on a full size bike, she can too. Takes time and practice
Hey mate, do you have an update on the lowering process? My fiancé is 5ft and currently on a DR125L.
No update! Decided just to learn to ride it as is.
Good Luck!
We will get her on the right track soon enough! Thanks for watching.
Can you pass the forks through the trees .75" or so to steal some height? Kouba makes great lowering links, unsure what options you have on the KTM, no linkage right?
loosen the triple clamps and move the suspension forks up about an inch, this will lower the front end a bit.
Hey! I'm 5'1 and have been riding a CRF250L, kinda comfortable with it but I am planning to jump onto an XR400 to learn about the carbs and kick starts. I was wondering, how do you kick start as a short person? Thanks!
The bike we haven’t seen yet is a CRF 125
? I’m confused what u mean
Noah Sussman when they were driving at the beginning they said they went over to the same area to pick up another bike we haven’t Seen yet, and it’s a Crf 125, I saw on his instagram.
Aimery Swiercinsky ok I was just wondering because I have a crf 125 and nobody makes content with them :)
Noah Sussman ok👍
Alexis may want to check out Megs Braap YT channel and talk to her. She has ideas on how shorter folks can make a full sized dirt bike work for them.
