@Andi-f2c Well your assertion has not been tested in actual war. Russia was deemed a super power but is bigged down in Ukraine, and Ukraine has struck Russian ammunition depots deep in Russia. Therefore, all assumptions about what are "peer" adversaries can do are to me I will believe it when I see it. OUR AIRCRAFT CARRIERS have entire naval battle groups protecting them to include attack submarines. The aircraft carrier battle group us now equipped with directed energy weapons and other weapons kept secret. People accuse me of being stupid because I do not buy communist propaganda. I do know that peace comes from strength, NOT weakness.

These things, but it takes even longer to build them. They could have a use. Just set it up for like 15 years and don't need to do a major overhaul. Set it up for drones and missiles.

The super carriers are vulnerable to massive drone or missile swarms and therefore must keep a very long distance from its enemy target. This is why I advocate for about 25-50 small escort carriers that are easier, quicker, and cheaper to build than a super carrier which can take almost a decade to build and insanely expensive. The smaller escort carriers won’t have complex catapult systems but can be well suited for vertical takeoff craft such as the very capable F-35B. If you have a lot more smaller escort carriers you can lose a few and it won’t be a disaster like if you lose a super carrier. Therefore small escort carriers can risk getting closer to enemy targets. I’m not saying get rid of the super carriers because they serve important functions such as reconnaissance and refueling aircraft that small escort carriers couldn’t launch. But, having a lot of small escort carriers that can launch F-35Bs mitigates the risks and vulnerabilities and enhances firepower effectiveness. It was the small escort carriers in 1944 that saved the battle of Leyte Gulf from being a disaster for the US navy.

Does this mean the US Navy finally figured out how to defend its carriers from the Swedish Gotland class of submarines?
After trying for a year, when Gotland managed to pass all the defence systems of the mighty CVN-76 with all supply ships, launch torpedoes (well, not really, but take photos proving that they could have) and escape undetected.
Then, the US Navy asked to lease the Gotland for another year, but Gotland could still easily have sunk poor old CVN-76 Ronald Reagan and escape undetected at will.
So, have they finally found out? After all, they didn't invite HSwMS Gotland to participate in the tests. Go figure...
All the fantastic multi-billion dollar types of equipment above deck mean nothing when half a dozen torpedoes from a $100M sub are coming.

Ah, I think taxpayers in the US are more concerned about how they're going to be able to afford their health bills if they ever become ill. Most US citizens don't even know what countries make up NATO or even what it stands for! What is a US carrier use say in Afghanistan or even the Ukraine as they won't enter The Black Sea in case it upsets Putin. Most of the time there are more carriers that are tied up in their naval bases because it would cost an absolute fortune to have them all on the go because there's no major conflicts that they are required to be involved in. I think most US citizens believe that these behemoths are on the go 24 hrs, 365 days a year which isn't the case at all.
