    Thank you so much for putting this together. I am in the process of gathering what I need to paint with acrylic. Since I am just starting out I am using craft paint to get used to mixing and creating colors. When just starting out one tends to waist a lot of paint learning how to do this. Once I figure out what I am doing I will move towards a better quality paint. Still gathering brushes and canvases. I appreciate you taking the time to put all thiese resources together to guide us on our journey.

    I have been painting again after a long absence. I am REALLY enjoying your videos. I'm finding that if I like a painting and get into it, I forget to change brushes. I only realize because I'm struggling to put in a detail with an overly large brush. Also, your mom is terrific! Thanks to you, Ginger and John for helping us enjoy art. PS I love my cat's tongue brushes.

    Thanks Cinnamon , great information as always . And a extra big thank you as lm very new to painting I had taken your advice on purchasing acrylic paint from a supplier whom has a website and home address , I had some paint issues and sent them a email, I received a reply within 24 hours , they sent replacement paints out the following day. So I was more than happy with their professional service and very grateful for your advice. Have a lovely day.

    Where were you two years ago Cinnamon? I so could have used this advise when I was setting up my studio because I was flying off the seat of my pants. But you are right on target with everything you said. Although I'd love to be able to afford the easel you have, one day. Thanks so much. So glad to be able to paint again this weekend. I've missed it due to my master's program homework. But hey, I'm beginning to work painting into my schedule between work, school work and life. Stress relief, here I come. Hugs to you and John.

    Thanks Cinnamon for your very informative vlog. I also got myself in a tangle over the "Goldilocks" thing, lol. However, I did buy some Bright Brushes from my UK Internet supplier because it's very difficult for us to buy from U.S.. Customs charged me £12 for 4 brushes from the Brush Guys. At the time they were out of the #10 too. Lots of love to you, John & family xxx

    This was great, I actually made a spread sheet and then checked out all the supplies I have now. I actually have every paint color you listed except the Australian Sienna, I guess when I ordered the ocean blue a while back I forgot to add this one as well. I have also added a lot of other colors from Angela's lessons. Its gets too addicting but I try buying just one at a time now with coupons. I also went a little overboard on the brushes when I order my extra firm and went ahead and order every size almost. LOL I do need a back up goldie locks. I am so glad you found this inexpensive brushes and shared them with us. They should give you stock in the company since they keep selling out. LOL Thanks for another great video.

    I purchased several tubes of Liquitex basic paints in the brown spectrum. The paint from four of the tubes came out very thick and grainy. I contacted Liquitex and explained the issue and they replaced every tube. I gave them the number stamped on the crimped end of the tube and within a couple weeks I had the replacement tubes. Just be sure to contact them to explain the issue you're having. They're very helpful. Thank you Liquitex!!!

MY QUESTION IS ARE THE SIMPLY SIMMONS BETTER TO USE WITH LIQUITEX BASICS OR DALER ROWNEY SYSTEM 3 OR DO I NEED THE EXTRA FIRM WITH THESE PAINTS ? ARE THESE 2 PAINTS CONSIDERED SOFT BODY ? I've been followed you since a little while ago and I love your personality and your creations! Dear Cinnamon, I have a question, but please don't be polite to me, be honest! Lol. I've been doing Fluid Art/Acrylic Pouring for the last two years, I love it and I've created - I think- cute pieces. This time I'd love to learn "acrylic paint" with you. BUT, I'm gonna be 60 this month, and I said to myself maybe it's too late for me, although I don't consider myself old, maybe I am too old to start learning this amazing art! Please give me your honest opinion I'm not gonna be offended at all. Thank you, you are amazing!

    Robert Simmons Titanium Brushes are my favorite for painting with soft body arylic, heavy body acrylic, and oil (don't worry I buy seperate brushes for oil and acrylic). They come in short and long handle (I like both). They are hardy enough to take a beating so long as you don't leave paint in them or soaking in water. They are also moderate in price! They are more expensive than the Simply Simmons line, but I don't wear them out as fast.

    Very useful update to the art supplies guide, thank you :)
    In my experience, firm filament brushes in that style and price range are still very difficult to find in Europe (I'm in the UK). Daler Rowney put out a very small sample of 'Simply' branded art supplies but they're not the same as their Simply Simmons supplies. The brushes are mostly of the gold taklon/sable style that you showed - not as firm. I contacted them but they never responded with any information :(
    Luckily in the UK we have one of the best brush companies in Rosemary & Co, who make very good acrylic brushes (and oil and watercolour), and their prices are extremely reasonable! Also very friendly to talk to. I'd recommend them to other sherpettes without question.
    Golden paint is a little more expensive here, though Liquitex is reasonably priced. I have been using paint from the french company Sennelier, and their Sennelier Abstract range is amazing in terms of pigment depth and consistency (very thick), even in direct comparison to those pro paints - it's their student paint range but they seem under priced for the quality you get. Big recommendation to other beginners :)

    • @TheRealMythril
      @TheRealMythril 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Daler rowney Graduate line ins the range with correlates with the Simply Simmons in the UK. It's the big box in most art stores that all the brushes are the same price ( same white handle) ( usually £2.50-££3.75 each regardless of size) they have all the varients from hog and firm nylon, to soft taklon and soft hair.

    • @somsoc_
      @somsoc_ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, thanks for the information! I had wondered about those brushes but
      haven't tried them yet. Good to know! Shipping over some of the Simmons
      brushes from the US is still very tempting!

    Hi cinnamon you are always super knowledgeable about art supplies...I am having a dilemma on canvases I know frederix is what alot of artist recommend but they are expensive so I use cheap canvases I guesso and sand but I was thinking what is the best affordable option do you recomend canvas pads by frederix? Also I use boards but I have heard they wont last as they rot. I just want a good decent surface to work on so I can learn more efficiently. Thanks:)

    Outside of the USA, "simply Simmons" brushes are the Graduate range from Daler and Rowney and I totally agree, fab value. I use the goat mops for watercolour from that range and many of the acrylic ones. The Simply Gold Taklon range from D&R (sold only in multipacks for about £10 for 5-10 brushes) are also fantastic value, never shed hair and are a good way to get a large range of shapes and sizes with rapidity and cheapness!

    • @janine_wwfroggles3219
      @janine_wwfroggles3219 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I wondered about that because the filaments in the graduates are a different colour to the Simply range, yet I find them to be pretty good.

    • @TheSpinDoctor
      @TheSpinDoctor 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Froggy Art Janine Goodrum They're the same thing but not all bristle materials are sold in all areas. The acrylic-relevant fibres in Graduate are really only Synthetic (gold). There is a Dark Tip Synthetic which is for watercolour really. There are Hog (oil) and pony-synthetic (watercolour at a push or very wet acrylic - personally I use to wet the paper and that alone), and goat (black and white, both watercolour only). I think they may have had or still have a dark synthetic that is stiffer but tbh the normal synthetic (I say gold, it's actually more brown) is pretty stiff. D&R Simply Gold Taklon multipacks (wood handle, gold Taklon) are amazing for acrylic and the value is unmatchable. I use them knowing I can bin them if I screw up when paying £0.50 to £1.0 per brush. The skyflow 2" was £8 tbf but the multipack ones are v cheap. I use those and CRYLA (only ever buy in the half-price sale in January though!) for the more specialist morphologies for acrylic.

      @janine_wwfroggles3219 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to shop online for these. I've managed to get the Graduate bright, and angular.
      Cinnamon's Daler and Rowney Rep, Rachel, said the system 3 were comparable to the simply simons extra firm filament, so I ended up trying the graduates when I found there wasn't an angle brush in that range.
      Would love if you looked into this some more :) Let me know :)

    Hey there! I just subscribed...I'm almost 30 and am just starting to paint. Loving it and loving your videos. I have lotas of questions but one in particular.
    Is it the gloss medium and varnish you mix with your colors to give them a sort of translucent look like in your nebula painting?

    Thanks for your straight talk and recommendations. I just want to escape and create without bristles falling out or my easel falling over.

    Very infomative Cinnamon! I would like to know what is another name for southern ocean blue in a different brand of paint liquitex, winsor & newton, liquitex basics or golden? At Michael there is artist paints level one two and three I use winsor & newton and basics liquitex or those paints considered heavy body paints? I know golden paints it states heavy body.

    Cinnamon, I have question about the larger brushes. Home Depot/Lowes brushes, have you found or can you recommend a few of the larger 1 1/2 to 3 inch brushes to use with heavy body acrylics? I watch your videos all the time and catch the lives as I can; I've learned a lot about blending etc but in January I began learning to paint abstracts, however when I've asked about buying brushes the only answer I get so far is to buy those cheap chip brushes which leave filaments everywhere all the time, brush marks and cause me major frustration. Pallet knives are fun (I'm learning) but I miss being able to use a brush to blend. Help. :)

    Been trying to think of who it is you remind me of and I finally realized.. it's the fine actress.. I think her name is Patricia Arquette, .. from the show MEDIUM... have you ever watched that? You have her mannerisms! Thanks for this video Cinnamon.

    Hi Cinnamon! Since I've been painting I've been having trouble with my paint not spreading easily on the canvas. Is it the quality of the canvas? I've been buying the artist loft level 1 canvas and the liquitex basics to start off. Adding a little bit of water to the paint helps a little but I find that I am constantly having to reload my brush with paint to cover the canvas. What am I doing wrong?

      I am having the same problem and I use the same materials as you...For now I am guessoing them (even if the say they are primed) and sanding them down it helps somewhat but I don't know if maybe I should just stop buying artist loft
