@@erickbuckner4485 Not only that but the novel version further adds salt to the wound. In it, it says that his piece was sent back to square one. Wish they showed or even mentioned it in the film. It would’ve made more sense in a way
People who are saying Peter is crying because of the tail that maybe so, but I think he was also crying because of the way Alan was scolding him. Alan telling him to be a man the way his dad did to him was a real dick move, but he became a better man by apologizing to Peter.
Agreed I should also point out the fact that in the novel, it mentions that Peter witnessed his token get sent back to the start after he dropped the dice. So if you factor that in, Alan had more of a reason to be angry at Peter.
Makes me wonder: if Alan, Sarah, or Judy had cheated, would they all also have turned into their respective tokens (Elephant, rhino, crocodile) or just monkeys?
I am at that point in my life where I am seeing the true meaning of this movie. It’s a coming of age story for Alan. We get two sides of manhood, embracing adolescence and the wonder of being a kid and facing the darkness that is life. The board game is analogy for life. Everyday we make choices in life and sometimes scary things are born from those choice, hence Jumanji’s name means “Cause and effect.” The whole point of the story is standing up and facing what comes out of the jungle of life, yet, we are also suppose to remember who we were in adolescence. Because remembering who we are allows us to have empathy for those who come after us. Allan learns to empathize with Peter and in that understands his father and is as to use that knowledge to reconcile with both of them. What’s interesting is Peter calls out Alan for being afraid earlier in the movie because Peter is a reflection of Alan too. Alan was tossed into the jungle where Peter lost his parents both had to take on maturity from a young age. The amount of parallels in this movie is insane.

0:12-0:30: that is referring to the mosquitos. As the rhyme goes, "A tiny bite can make you itch, make you sneeze, make you twitch". Sneezing is referring to fevers, itching on rashes and twitching on seizures.
Since the game said that Peter will slip back even more than his token, I wonder if that means the game is only turning him into a monkey because that’s the game piece he’s using to play as. Because if that’s how it is whenever someone cheats in the game, that means Alan could have turned into an elephant, Judy into a crocodile, and Sarah into a rhino.
I know this is old but i think this is referring too the theory of man evolving from monkeys...so yeah slip back more then token may mean going back down the evolutionary chain.
That line also means more in the novel version. In it, it states that Peter’s token was banished back to square one (hence the line “slip back even more than your token”.)
TRIVIA Bradley Pierce was the voice of Tails in the cartoon Sonic the Hedgehog based on the classic Sega video game. Jumanji is about a magic board game.

I love this part of the film because it shows Alan's development. Throughout the film, he feels guilty about not living up to his dad's expectations. When he was talking to Peter, he realized that the toxically masculine things his dad were trying to teach him like, "Crying doesn’t solve anything," and, "Be a man," are no way to talk to a child. In a way, Alan was alone with those thoughts for so long that that's how he believed he should act as an adult. At the end, when Van Pelt confronts him, Alan kind of confronts his father because Van Pelt is a physical manifestation of Alan's fear around his dad. He chose not to run, to finally face what he's afraid of. Even Van Pelt acknowledges how Alan was acting like an adult in the moment. Alan shows that while some things shouldn't be taught to kids, teaching them to face their fears is something that should be taught.
@HooDatDonDar I agree with the second part of the sentence, but I still believe that the things that Alan said to Peter are somewhat toxic. Think about it. Telling a kid "crying never solves anything" tells that crying is a bad thing and that they should stifle their emotions. Also, telling a young male child to "be a man" basically makes them think that they're not growing or maturing fast enough, making them feel inadequate. I'm glad that parenting has evolved since Alan's generation and parents today know how to properly talk to their kids.
