I love the sleazy feel of Yakuza 0 the dim glow of lights and trash everywhere. While Yakuza 6 is a great contrast clean organized streets the bright glow of new modern lights give it an "organized" feel.

It looks like the biggest differences between the 2 time periods was the amount of businesses and the amount of space in which they could operate. Spaces shrank so that more businesses could operate on the same buildings (Hence why there are more signs in Y6).
I like the relaxed walk of Yakuza 0 more. Makes Kiryu look more intimidating I guess. Like how a Yakuza would walk. Yakuza 6 looks like he's late for something.

True but that's actually how fast Tokyo people walk. I took a trip to Tokyo few years ago and was lost at subway, a nice lady led us to the exit and she walked insanely fast, she's about 40 and I was 20 and I can barely catch up

A thing that i miss in Kamurocho in most Yakuza games is the warm lights that 0 has. It feels like a totally diferent town with the blue lights of the other games
That comes from the yellow filter they use in 0

If 0 got a remake with the reflected lighting it would be pretty incredible. 1988 Kamuro has a more familiar gritty vibe. Neon lights, prostitution, disco halls, girls in glitter shiny one piece that look like disco balls, some dush with their Lambo parked in middle of nowhere, shoulder pads, huge piles of trash. I miss that about 0. I'd especially love to see all that neon glow at night time on a newer game engine.
6 Kamuro does look much more clean, safe looking and tourist friendly. Streets feel wider. It's a different vibe. Main problem is that the streets look freaking dead like it's 2020.

@@neku3170 Tbh 0 could also use more population. Not realistically like irl Kabukicho because that would be ridiculous. Maybe just 3x the population as in 0 I think would add a lot to the immersion. The situation in 6 seems a bit ridiculous at times, legit looking like it's on lockdown at certain moments..

I also want to see a Yakuza set in the early 90s (Y0.5). Mostly just to see the h0rny rave clubs and the effects/reactions of bubble economy at its orgasm stage, which are topics often over-shown on Japanese television but are presumably not well-known to most of the non-Japanese audience that follow the Yakuza series.
Now that Yakuza games are on PC I finally get to play Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, Yakuza 5, Yakuza 6, installed on my PC, currently playing Y6 and probably going to get Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Ryo Ga Gotoku studios makes good games, just wish it was released on PC earlier. They also had spin-offs but never set ashore into other countries from Japan.
The way Tenkaichi street looks in 0 is always just so damn cool.

I've recently been playing through the whole Yakuza series, starting with 0. I'm now up to Yakuza 5 and I still think that out of all of them (don't get me wrong, they're all great games), Yakuza 0 is the best by far. None of the others have quite felt as amazing as 0. Granted that could just be that as my first Yakuza game the whole setting/feel/humor etc was all new to me and so it's the most ingrained in my memory.
In terms of gameplay, Kiwami 2 was probably the next best (obviously since its more modern), and in terms of story I'd say that Yakuza 4 was really good too. I'm not far enough into 5 to really make a judgement on that yet. Speaking of Judgement, that was also really good but didn't quite capture the same wackiness/essence of the Yakuza games.

@@danischannel honestly I'm slightly ashamed to admit I ended up mostly skipping 5 and just watching the cutscenes on TH-cam. I got a bit burnt out and really wanted to move onto the better gameplay of 6 :(
@@CartoonH2O yeah same here. I have the entire yakuza collection thanks to xbox gamepass .I completed yakuza 0,1 and 2. Saw the cutscenes of Yakuza 3 and 4 to get the story .now started with yakuza 5 . I played the first few chapters of kiryus story.Seems okay .then I tried the substories which seemed not as funny as yakuza 0. These were mostly stories that are trying to teach me a life lesson but I'm not here for that lol...just the burn out I guess. Now I am tempted to skip this one and try the turn based combat in Yakuza like a dragon. Will be something different

Well 0 is a PS3 game so it makes sense that it would run smooth on ps4 but it does run at 30 on 3.

I mean it makes perfect sense. Zero took place in the 80s and during Japans economy boom. Everything was bright, vibrant. People had money to burn. Big flashy neon lights and incandescent lighting filling the night sky.
6 taking place in 2016 and while Kamurocho is in the midst of a war, the lighting is more subdued. More LED lighting and large LCD screens lining the streets. Everything is more subdued because that's just how it is nowadays with the changing times.
It's a true shift, seeing how a place transforms over time. What was once a bright bustling city, ripe for the picking is now a run down gang warzone (At least as run down as a moden japanese city district can be)

Yeah, I kinda prefer the 0 engine, Kiryu looked much better in it and animations seemed more fitting

I feel in Y0 he was more confident and had way less enemies while in Y6 hes got wayyyy to many enemies so the occasional look back and the nervous demeanor fit him.

The city is in the midst of a gang war. People are probably leaving the area or not coming out as much to stay safe during all that. Kamurocho just got less safe for people over time. At least that's how I see it.

I do love me some Dragon Engine. But yea, Kamurocho felt emptier and half of it was closed off. I did enjoy 6, but 0 had the better atmosphere and even though it was a later engine, the streets felt more alive and lived in.
I really think yakuza 6's kamurocho is incomplete unlike kiwami 2 and judgement.

here's hoping there's something they can do about it in the pc modding on the amount of npcs at least

@@Serso70 Modder's are gonna help make some touches to the npcs in Yakuza 6 for sure. Now there's about few mods in NexusMods but after some weeks i assure you, The Yakuza 6 Section in NexusMods ig gonna be filled with mods.
i played 0 first and it is my favorite. unforutunately due to my weak pc, i only played 0 and kiwami 1 . but i watched k2, 3,4,5,6 on youtube. i can honestly say i like kiryu's appearance more in 0 and kiwami 1. new engine is good but previous one's vibe was better imo. by the way, the walk on y0's kiryu is deadass cool. he walks with maximum swagger😃
338 Lapua Magnum I am in the same boat as you. I tried playing kiwami 2 but it crashed even with all the settings down. Did the game ever crash in the cutscenes? Because that was the main problem in 0/kiwami

I played for some hours to Yakuza 6, after Kiwami, played on PS4, and 0 and Kiwami 2 played on PC.
The graphics difference between 0+Kiwami 1/2 and 6 is huge.
Yakuza 6 suffers from really bad tearing, antialiasing, and an awful framerate.
The other chapters have a beautiful and smooth graphics.
Why was there been such a graphics downgrade in Yakuza 6?

On PC I never went below 100 frames at 1440P on max settings. So maybe that's just a PS issue?

you can pay 5$ a month (1$ for the first month) or something close to that in your local currency for xbox game pass to play every game from 0-7,its really cheap.but the 1$ thing only applies in the US i think

Everyone is talking about how good Yakuza 0 is but after playing though to the 5th game, I cant really return to it (Until I 100% it). Yakuza 0 now just feels like a last gen Yakuza game that remastered better than 3, 4 and 5 to me.

meus favoritos são o Y2, Y3 e Y6. o Y2 gosto bastante por ter o tema da “jornada épica do herói”, enquanto o Y3 e Y6 retratam um Kiryu mais civil com o tema forte sobre a família.

I wish they would sort it the stupid npc pedestrians just diving out of your way when you don't walk anywhere near them the ai is annoying and ruins the immersion at times.

Cause the game was clearly rushed to meet it's deadline. Heck some parts of the city is blocked out and the gameplay is a downgrade from 0 or even 5.

I wish you they’d kept the engine in 0, 6 engine was a bummer, and knocked Kiwami 2 down a few notches. Finally started to get it right in Judgement…then went turn based.
Hopefully continued improvement in Judgement 2.

@@j.vinton4039 there's not much you can do about that. these games are copying real life locations. in the 80s kabukicho was like 80s kamurocho, today's kabukicho has no trash and filth everywhere and is much cleaner. the game just shows you what it really looks like now in japan. i get that it's got less atmosphere, but that's not the developer's fault

@@Invalidusername24 Same. As good as Yakuza 0 was. There’s something about Yakuza 5 that just sets it apart from the other Yakuza games. I really liked the combat and the hours and hours of content we got with Yakuza 5 in addition to the great story
