this worked for me 3.30.22 thanks again.
i got the error about half way through and ran "esentutl/g and esentutl/p" which didnt instantly solve it. but when i went to start over and deleted the log file. after the reboot it booted normally. whew. thanks so much ^_^

When I try to do compact to c:\temp i receive the message "**** Error: Operation not allowed because AD DS/LDS files are in the restored state. Restar the directory instance to finalize the restore process."
How can I proceed?
Ok solved in a weird way... As I restored a backup from a windows image backup set, I had to roll back the VM clock to the date/time of the restored backup. That helped to restart the machine correctly. Then I moved back the clock at the current time and it worked!
Hi. First of all thank you for your query. Now coming to the technical point. I can guess you are having only one DC into your network. Since you haven't any other DC so, the rolling back the time stamp to the previous one is the only solution which you done later successfully. It's always a good practice to host more than 1 DC into a network so that you can restore the last updated version of the AD Database on the corrupted DC. The way I have shown here can save your DC but that will not be a clean troubleshooting as you don't have any other DC, running into the network during the time when the another DC was down.

I was looking for this solution for days until I saw this exactly the same as my problem, but when I get to the part at minute 10:08, after typing "active instance ntds" and hitting enter it gives me this error:
"Failed to parse input - invalid syntax"
From then on, my hands were tied and I didn't know how to continue. I left putting "quit", again "quit" and "exit".
I restarted the server and followed the steps again from minute 9:04 but the same thing happens: "active instance ntds" appears again the error "Error parsing input - invalid syntax".
Is there any way to fix it? I'm surely doing something wrong, but I don't see where; I followed the steps one by one.
Thanks in advance for your help and to be able to solve this problem with the server and have the DC active again.

In case of ntdsutil command failed then
boot into DSRM and start a command prompt
esentutl /g "C:\Windows\NTDS
tds.dit"/!10240 /8 /v /x /o
esentutl /p "C:\Windows\NTDS
tds.dit" /!10240 /8 /v /x /o
NOTE: Delete the database log files from the Ntds folder but Don't delete or move the Ntds.dit file.

Thank you so much, first off job completed command and restarted and try to get in DSRM option but surprisingly os started normally and working fine. I have checked All services also working 100%.
It could be possible the first two commands were executed "esentutl/g and esentutl/p" these commands perhaps corrected dat base that is the reason os booted properly and working fine.

In my case, it worked just after the reboot following the deletion of C:\Windows\NTDS\*.log files --- Server 2016 DC on VMware Workstation 12.5.9

Since it was a DSRM (Directory Services Repair Mode) login so you must enter the DSRM password which you have set earlier while configuring the Domain Controller. watch @ 2:39 min. If you have forgot the DSRM password, please stay tuned. I will make a video on it separately. Thanks for the idea. 👍👍

Thanks for the query. When you are working with DSRM (Directory Services Repair Mode), you have to enter the DSRM password of Administrator which was set at the time of configuring the ADDS in that faulty Domain Controller. Watch @2:39 mins for more

Note: As you mentioned "AD it's not restored at 100% (last user not restored...for exemple)" I seriously need to work on that. Basically it's quite a rare issue. Frankly speaking, I faced it once as of now.
