Thank you for reminding the law-enforcement personnel who participated in this insane raid that they should have done as the Oath Keepers organization proclaimed and simply refused to follow an illegal/unlawful order. Oath Keepers draws a lot of Federal heat for maintaining that every cop and soldier has a moral duty to honor their Oath. This sort of tyrannical violation of a good American's life should never have been executed, and all those who did this moral outrage have completely violated their Oath to support and defend the Constitution.

As someone who grew up this way, never once did anyone get sick from eating meat, or vegetables produced on these farms. Yet, almost everyday massive amounts of meats, or vegetables are recalled in the US, or people actually get sick. Amish farmers know far more about food safety than FBI agents, or a as my authorities.

Same, my grandparents used to grow all of their food including chicken, cow, goat, even fish products. I notice the difference when I started eating more in fast food places and all of the trash food with preservatives and fake aditives.

Jails were a breeding ground for COVID. Releasing people from jail was done to help minimize deaths from COVID.

Obviously this situation is about a person (who happened to be Amish) who is selling milk which has not gone through the well proven process of making it safe for consumption. We've known about the risks associated with raw milk for many decades.
My family lived just a few miles from here for 25 yrs. And we know about this farm. It is heaven on earth. Amos is a kind and gentle soul that just wants to make a living and support his family and the Amish community.

I have ordered food from his farm for several years. He is a kind and gentle man. I met him a few years ago. He is trusting God's will in this matter and we are all praying for justice for him. The feds are really being unfair.

I may not understand their lifestyle, but I have nothing but respect for the Amish and their ability to live happily the way they do. This is just annoying af, knowing that these good people are being harassed in this way.
In fairness it is a bit hypocritical the way they live. They claim to live apart but they pick and choose the aspects of modern society that suit them. They don't drive but hire others to drive them around when they need it. They use the roads but don't pay for them. They pay very little in taxes. They have their own schools but not their own fire, police or medical assets. They could not survive as they do without all the "English" around them subsidizing their existence with technology (and purchasing from them). Overall nice people but a bit of a sham.

I have family living in Ontario Canada and I was informed that farmers need permits to sell to the public so many of the roadside stands are by donation. I think the US is not far behind it's northern neighbor!

It's not entirely correct. They have a symbiotic relationship with the modern world and they certainly rely on many of the things that modern society provides them. Generally they are nice but don't think that all of them are good and honest, either. They are people just like us but they live in a more communal way.

The Amish are religious, so that is likely another reason for targeting the Amish. Was the USDA involved? Is this under the purview of the US marshals, or is it another overstepping of another government agency? The USDA is involved I have been keeping up with this story. It’s local. It’s disgusting how the USDA treats the Amish. I buy A LOT from the local Mennonite community and have quite a few friends. As a lady, I love other Mennonite ladies and the level of skills it takes to maintain their lifestyle. The USDA is under the impression that the food they grow is not safe because they use old styles of food preparation. The rules are so crazy. For example I make jellies and jams. If I wanted to sell my my jams I would have to put a large sticker on them stating that it is prepared in a home kitchen. If I gift the same item I could be in legal trouble…all because the jam is sealed. I do not know the exact stabilization date on every single jar I make because it is NOT full of preservatives. Same with my Mennonite friends. So we always suggest consumption within a month or sniff test the food. But seriously it’s common sense to not eat spoiled food.
I think the USDA is important for bad actors. But it is not always fair to the little guy. Look at the baby formula issues…is that not the same as someone buying a bad jar of jam and coming back to me to exchange it free of charge?

I have purchased products from this farm for years and the quality has always been outstanding. I am so very sad to see this. What a huge overreach and a nuclear alarm for the rest of us. Prayers for this hardworking family that has provided a much appreciated service to it's customers for as long as it has. I would love to know if there is any sort of coordinated effort to help.

Step back and ask yourself why gates is buying so much farm land
while I think it can be a date to have, the usefulness of federally regulated food safety inspections, if the law is that you cannot sell meat to the public that has not been inspected, and you do so, even after multiple court ordered injunctions to cease doing so...is it over reach when they come for your meat? The fight to be fought is in the court over the efficacy of such regulations, not simply flouting them and doing as you wish. I won't argue that the meat is like better tasting and better for you being closer to 'natural' vs. large industrial farms and the shenanigans they get up to - but at the same time, one must take it on faith that the uninspected meat IS free of disease and bacteria...yes, it also goes for inspected, as things slip through sometimes, but your chances are numerically less so with the inspected product, and the further you are from that meat's source, the more liklihood of getting 'bad meat' goes up due to potentials for mishandling and storage en route.

Tucker, Thank you so much for covering this man’s story. We are customers of his and have purchased his wonderful food for over a decade. The government has been harassing him for years. I believe this has affected his entire community in Bird-In-Hand. I know he is a quiet humble man and they are so private but it is in the heart of those who do business with him to help him…so thank you for bringing this out to the public. My daughter works at a place that knows this whole story. His fines have been paid.
Back in 15-16 the FDA came in and told him he couldn’t sell to the public but he could sell to members. That’s what everyone did, they became members. His business thrived. Now that wasn’t good enough for the FDA so they want to shut him down. The Amish community in our area won’t let that happen! I live close by to this.

I was on on medication for years at the FDA approved no telling what damage it done to my body my doctor called me one day and told me to get off of it immediately. My sister was on a medication they told her that she'd be on it the rest of her life . I told her what happened to me she said well the doctor told me to stay on it. About two months later her doctor called her and told her to get off the medication not to take any more of it. Those Amish people have never had a problem they need to leave them alone go after your big Pharma companies that are poisoning people.

I worked for "Snyder's Pretzels and chips" delivering to stores mostly , but one day a week my route was to delivery to all the small shops in Holmes County Ohio. It is a community thick with Amish and Mennonite people. These were small shops that resold in bulk foods. Barrels lined the stores filled with flour, sugar , oats etc. They purchased my pretzels in bulk too. They had different types of retail stores in towns such as " New Hope" They had a quilt store, a harness shop, other shops for buggies, a black smith shop and horse dressings etc. The stores and town was small but busy. Several purchased from me so , Most owned the shop they worked at, so, I got to know them well. I was invited to and ate dinner in their homes and not many " English " as they call us, have gotten to know them that well. I could share so much of their wisdom with you today but TOO LONG, so I will tell you what "Old man Weaver" a bulk food store owner told me in 1986 when he was 96 years old at the time. I was telling him about the space shuttle, when he said" the most important and best thing that the English ever invented was...........wait for it.......... Ice cream... Kind of stuck with me from a man who said the year he was born, 1890 is where I get off of the " technology train" Happiest people on the planet in a world wide study. ...makes me wonder.

Bigger better fresher vegetables that are organically raised canned goods that were canned by a person using mason jars and not a machine . The best part is for the money I would spend at the grocery store I would get five times the amount through the Amish . I bought my lumber from them and decorated my home with quite a few Amish crafts . For the most part these are good wholesome people that don't deserve to be infringed upon by the government .

The USDA destroys an Amish man's livelihood, charges him an outrageous fine that's probably around the full value of his home and farm, and threatens him and his family because 2 people among his regular customer base of 4000+ people (and everyone they feed with his produce) got sick. They're too wholesome, and like everything else in this country that's good, wholesome, and worth protecting, they're seen as prime targets by many on the left. They were probably safe as long as they seldom voted or got involved in politics, but they knew that the situation was critical and they've never been ones to back down from a difficult job.

My brother lived in Pennsylvania before he passed away. When I would go there I always got them to take me and my family to Amish country. We would buy the fresh bread and all kinds of homemade goodies.
Then we would go to the winery near there for wine tasting.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. When did he pass? On a similar note, I have been in Uganda, a country in East Africa, for the last month. I was here for the burial of my brother who passed away in June this year in the US. The food here is virtually all organic and is so good, both in taste and nutritional value. I've never had fresh milk from a cow. It's so sweet.

I recently visit a Amish community in Southern Iowa for the first time in my life. I feel a strong respect for that community that lives like people used to live in 1800. The clothing, haircut, lifestyle, raising cattle, horses, pigs, growing corn and everything they can without fertilizer… they are so smart and very united, super humble and educated. I hope the Biden’s administration doesn’t bother them. These guys are very hardworking people. I never saw anybody working so hard like the Amish people.

(a) Amos Miller and his wife owned and operated Miller’s, an unincorporated business located at 648 Mill Creek School Road, Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania;
(b) at its farm site, Miller’s had been slaughtering livestock or poultry, and then preparing, processing, storing, and/or distributing meat, meat food products, and poultry products;
(c) Miller’s sold its meat, meat food products, and poultry products that are subject to the Acts (known as “amenable products”) for commercial purposes and for human consumption to consumers in Pennsylvania and throughout the United States;
(d) federal inspection is required at such an establishment that slaughters livestock or poultry, and then prepares or processes amenable meat, meat food products, or poultry products that are capable of use as human food for interstate or foreign commerce, unless the establishment qualifies for an exemption from federal inspection;
(e) Miller’s had been operating its meat and poultry business without a USDA-FSIS Federal Grant of Inspection and (with rare exception) without taking its livestock and poultry for slaughter and processing to any federally inspected facility; and
(f) defendants had not yet changed Miller’s business model to attempt to qualify for an exemption from federal inspection under the Acts for any part of their operations.
