    The rod you described is good for lures but a slower action is better for live bait in my opinion. I also like a slower action for trolling. Not a spaghetti rod but not super fast either.
    I'm using a 7' Ugly Stik Carbon Inshore medium action fast tip rod with a 3000 size reel and 10 lb braid for almost everything in the saltwater with artificials and Ugly Stik GX2'S or Big Waters for bait. They're affordable and durable, and the graphite one is sensitive and has the right action for setting hooks with weedless soft plastic rigs and jigs.

You went over what you target and,what rod and reel you target Fish with. Awesome video. I would rather have a more expensive rod and cheap real. I own 5 toadfish rods and I love Them. I also own a lot of pen fierce 3 reels great reels and rods for a great price! Thank you for the great video!

That being said I catch trophy fresh water trout on Kastking cheap-o stuff. Don't worry about the gear so much and get out there cast what ya got. You ain't catching them from the couch. • @boognish593
      @boognish593 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either one really. The difference in those is minimal. Shorter rods tend to be more accurate… longer rods more casting distance. Personally I don’t like a 7’ rod. It’s too “middle of the road” for me. I use a baitcaster in the 6.5 feet range and a spinning reel in the 7.5+ feet range. I tend to prefer having 2 or 3 tools that each do one thing very well as opposed to just one that does everything but nothing well

    • @boognish593
      @boognish593 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shorter rods are more accurate…longer rods cast further. I myself prefer a 6’-6” to 7’ Baitcasting rig of medium to medium heavy power and mod fast to fast tip and a 7’+ spinning rig of the same power and speed range. For a live bait rod and chucking lighter lures I like a slower tip speed

    I dont get why everyone is going to braid. The salt in the water will lodge between the strands in the braid and litterally sandpaper away the braid and not to mention its a horrible line for when a fish wraps around structure. I use 20lb monofilament for all my saltwater applications for peace of mind. The only problem with that is i have to use a big bulky reel. Id rather use a big bulky reel than to get cut off by a big fish. Im willing to tolerate the extra bulk. The upside is peace of mind. Also if i catch a snook and he goes into head shake mode that 20 pound line will hold up better than braid any day.
