  • I sold my last Harley in 1980 when I was 22. A 1962 Duo Glide that I completely rebuilt (see pictures in my 1st video). Harleys are in my blood, when I hear or see one I get that good feeling. I turned 59 in 2017 & discussed with my wife building one more for my 60th birthday. End of Aug 2017 I found/bought a sweet classic, a 1937 Big Twin 74 cubic inch Flathead UL (2 days before I bought it I broke my left wrist). Throughout the late fall & winter of 2017/2018 I started the teardown. Making a list of repairs & parts needed. As you see in the videos I do all the work myself, mechanical, wheels, wiring, welding, paint, etc.. I turned 60 in Feb of 2018 & it took me approx. 6-months to complete it. Finished bike the end of Sept. 2018. I have 8 videos. The first 4-videos are a slide show of the tear down & rebuild. The last 4-videos show the bike starting, running & me riding her. I never rode a foot clutch, hand shift Harley before & took me a couple of hours to get the feel of it. Happy 60th birthday to me, and what a thrill being back in the saddle after 38yrs!

good on ya brother , i just found pt 7 and now 6 popped up , i'll go watch em all , in ozzi in the 80's and 90's we rode flatheads mostly walla's, we hot rodded em with sportster cams and fiddled with gearing ,su carbies etc , one of the guys had an 80 cu UL which was rare as hens teeth , i always lusted for a 74cu UL or a knucklehead but they were like rockin horse shiite too , my wla broke the gearbox 20 years ago so i parked it up , its in the shed but covered in rust , i'm gunna clear the shed and get into it , i'm 57 so i just have to do it ,,like now ,thanks for sharing and cheers big ears from down under#CASHisKINGnoCBDC

thanks, I'm hoping to do another video soon. I'm changing my original handle bars to Flanders style with brass risers. The original bars give me a uncomfortable sitting position because I have to reach so far forward & wide that after an hour ride my back is aching. On the hwy I need to ride with only my hand on the throttle & kind of sit twisted to be more comfortable. Plan on painting the bars this week & putting everything back together.

@@backinthesaddle350 yes, the position of the 'bars is so critical - I have a back problem and need higher bars than most would like and I have to have them in exactly the right position so that I lean forward into the wind just a little bit....
The bars on my 2010 Streetbob just never felt right so I fitted ones just a little higher and wider, and wouldn't you know it, those bars from the Streetbob are now on my 2006 Sportster and are just perfect. I think it is the distance from the bars back to the seat and the relative seat/'bars height but hey all I know is that it works ! There is maybe something about the bike's center of gravity and the handlebar width as well but.....

Lucky old bu- - -r!! She is spot on and I am glad to see that you retain the 18" wheels: Bravo!! Tight as a bulls A--e in August. Should be well able to out accelerate the Hydra but god!! the weight: I was shocked at 16 in '66 getting off my wlc and thinking that the ul would be the same kettle of fish (sorry, nuts and bolts). I have longed for one ever since. Two weeks later a servicar wouldn't do as I bid it and it took our all my front teeth as it careered through a flint wall on a long r/hand bend on the outskirts of town. I long for another good, per '67 one of those too (L:H change please!!) cash waiting for the right bike. Ride on safely but remember, our thinking gets slower or is it that age makes the bike think that much faster?? paul (just about to return to UK)

Thanks for the nice comments. You’re so right about aging. My reflexes sure aren’t like they use to be. I sold my daily driver (57 chevy) because I was coming so close to having accidents with it (no power steering or brakes plus no side mirrors). I’m now driving/riding like one of those old guys I use to fly by hahaha.

@@backinthesaddle350 Thankyou for your reply. I sold my '78 FLH when I came to France because it's all narrow farmtracks (was) and I'd dropped it by not seeing the diesel spill at a set of lights. Then I sold the 1959 James Young S1 Bentley to pay the electrician and plumber on this 12 centuary Knight Templar commandery: now a return to Somerset UK and perhaps a few years left to kid myself yet again.
