Make your own FREE waste oil burner. Just a propane bottle

  • Free heat from such a simple little unit to build is really nice in my uninsulated shed.I just needed to rebuild one of my waste oil burners so it was time to chop out the old propane bottle and weld in a new one. For anyone looking to build one of these
    The bowl is 7 inches in diameter
    The sides are 3 inches high and 2mm thick
    The propane bottle is 6 inches high
    There are 9 holes spaced at 1 inch centers per row and a total of 3 rows.
    27 holes in total.
    Hole diameter is 13mm
    Free heat is not that hard to make. This burner is small enough to fit in most stoves but be careful this is experimental and dangerous.
    This is the burner unit but you will need a drip feed or dosing pump to deliver the oil.

    Just realised - Gerry was the reason I started to watch TH-cam in the first place. Thank God he's back. Apart from the content being exactly my cup of tea (free heat and paramotoring) there's something therapeutic about the enthusiastic and humorous delivery in that wonderful Irish lilt.
    Normal service has been resumed! Good on ya Gerry!!

    Thanks a million from your winter Canadian friends, who are learning how to keep warm at our off-grid cottages and cabins. Your no-electric-power air-injection design is clearly THE BEST on the internet and TH-cam.
    I've never used one of those stepped drill bits, but now I'll be buying one to make the air-injector of the burner. Its awesome to have you break the whole burner construction down into easy parts like this.
    Whenever you get the chance... it would be great if we could see you build a couple of waste-oil-burner DOOR designs, from start to finish, including the way the darn thing seals!
    Thanks a million again Jerry, Canucks

      Hi Rand. I tried looking through some of my old videos. I use fiberglass rope to seal the door. The stove I am working on at the moment does not need to be sealed that well but I will be making something soon that will. If you cut strips and esentially put a larger frame inside the opening on the tank when you close the door you wont see the flame. On that lip I stick wit stove glue the rope seal. You have to adjust the hinges and the closing mechanism to allow for the extra width but it works great. I am sure I show it in one of the earlier forced air designs but cant find it at the moment. Once I finish the boiler stove I might make a smaller stove and show the door on that. Lots of Canadians interested in heat and the US as well. Great having you here Rand Thanks for the comment and if I can help with anything let me know Cheers Gerry

    Very cool hey Gerry it would be cool if u made a mini waste oil burner unit, something for lets say a smaller garage that would burn less litres per hour. Just an idea, Cheers

    You are absolutely right Gerry, always wear goggles when doing grinding and/or drilling, as your eyes are very precious, and an accident can happen at anytime.
    Several of my friends have lost an eye, because they thought that goggles weren't really needed, and their 20-30 and 40 years of working without them without an accident was their proof, only one day..........it went wrong anyway, but regrets didn't give them their eyesight back.
    I am so careful with my eyes that I was wearing my goggles while watching this video, you can't be careful enough, and wearing them while not really needed doesn't do any harm, unlike the opposite. Peter

      Hi Peter. I need to improve that's for sure. I have a shed load of safety wear so I had no excuses on the day. Back in action and making videos again, hopefully with added safety too.Thanks for commenting, much appreciated. Cheers Gerry

      Hi Chris It's great to get a second use from them which is why I keep them but I have too many around the shed now.. Maybe a Super burner Lol. Thanks for the comment Cheers Gerry

      @GerrysDiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris. I have been asked that a few time just this week. It would be an easy build and I think I will take it on but I have to get the boiler stoves done first so I guess it will be a few weeks before I get to it. I would be interested to see how it would pan out. I have added waste oil to a stove while it was burning wood / sawdust and it went well. It made the stove glow red which is great for the shed but too powerful in other situations. Cheers Gerry

    Hey Gerry!
    Good with the safety glasses! I still say you need a plasma cutter. I bought one last year just for the sake of cutting slots in a stainless steel salad bowl (hey, anything works for an excuse)!
    Anyway, you'd be in love with it!
    Dave

      Hi Dave I would love a plasma cutter and I will definitely put it on my Christmas present list. Cutting with grinder disks gets old fast. Feeling that way too lately too lol. Thanks for the comment really appreciate it 👍👍 Cheers Gerry

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi M35a2guy. I will have to light the boiler stove outside because the paint will not stay on the oil drum for long. Once I get this build working I will be making another boiler build with a commercial boiler and one of my burners. I did make a boiler stove before and it worked well enough to make a ton of steam and a lot of hot water. I used a different burner then from Ozzirt but this time it will be one of my own. Here's a link to that playlist goo.gl/g8ZQ2H Cheers Gerry

    Jerry let me suggest a way to save time aerating the propane cyl use a sawzall and make a number of cuts not quite completely through instead of drilling alot of holes like
    ---------
    ---------
    ---------
    ---------
    space them as you like

    Say Gerry, about the copper fuel oil feed line, I know copper doesn’t melt until 1981 deg. F, but do you have problem with the feed pipe being eaten away by oxidization at these temperatures?

  • @kevinl4290
    @kevinl4290 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Gerry I am intrigued by your videos. It seems you favor this design of burner, but I am interested in that force fed design you used with the pot and tin can in the bottom that was fed air by a pipe and air pump.
    Ive used a drip feed burner for a few years (not your design) and I've gotten great heat out of it, as much as 1200*F when I want to push it hard. However my issue is that it burns DIRTY under all conditions. The smoke output is not a huge concern but the small pieces of soot get on everything outside and make a mess, even getting into the attic vent of my house. The main problem is that it clogs the 6" chimney pipe with light fluffy soot within 3 or 4 weeks, sometimes less, when used 8-10 hours daily, and it makes a GIANT mess when trying to clean it. So I am planning to build a new design heater this year, and I am concerned with a clean burning design.
    Based on your experience and my goal, which of your designs would you recommend that I experiment with next? The naturally aspirated design you show here that draws air from the bottom chamber, or the air force fed design with the pot that's closed on the bottom and gets air and oil via the pipe coming in from the side/top of the burner?
    Thanks in advance.

      Hi Mike. I am not a natural at this video stuff but the burners are really good. My shed would cost an absolute fortune to heat as it is but with the waste oil I can be warm for free. There are alot of my various burner videos in my playlists and some homemade paramotor trike builds and flying videos too.
