As a Protestant, I was puzzled by the inference that Protestants don’t see the sacrificial language in the account of the Last Supper. Always seemed pretty obvious to me and I’ve never heard it argued against by Protestants.

Are you both high church Protestants i.e. Lutheran or Anglican? Because that would make sense that you'd be confused by the reference.
Because I have had HUNDREDS of low church Protestants i.e. Evangelicals take deep umbrage with the Last Supper as a sacrifice. Mostly because if you do, it's very much impossible-imo- to deny the real presence in the Eucharist (which Anglicans universally still believed 8n until the 1970s but there has been a split on that) Lutherans have always been a little more on the "it's a representation" side of it.
I would invite you to checkout videos about the Eucharist by Catholics. You will see comments from Protestants angry about it being a sacrifice. There are Chick tracts with that. It was on of John McArthur's arguments for Catholics being demons or some wild thing.
So I guess view it with that lens.

I don't have a video but what I've learned in my masters classes is that:
these books are not Orthodox: they contradict other writings of the time
were not written by an apostle or disciple: they were generally written by 100-300ad: Johns revelation at latest is dated around 90ad and was a direct disciple
thus, even early on, they were determined not be Holy scripture, nor are they are of the cannon of scripture.

As a protestant I don't see any disagreement on the sacrificial language or the priesthood of Jesus. He is the Lamb of God, the scape goat in the day of atonement. This is not something that protestant and Catholic theology disagree on and if they do they are not teaching the gospel. Jesus was and still is king, prophet, and priest. The Trinity is still three yet one. It's not something we disagree on. We do disagree on celibate priesthood, praying to Mary and the saints, And in most protestant denominations transubstantiation. However I think of transubstantiation as something that we can have grace too the lesser brother about whoever is right and the same for the celibate priesthood. I'm not sure about the prayers to Mary or the saints I still think that it often leads to idolatry and I think in the past was used to bring pagan practice into the church. I also disagree on the legitimacy of Roman supremacy and church hierarchy. And though we disagree on this stuff Im unwilling to say who will be saved because that is not my place. And I think of Roman Catholics as brothers in a shared faith and view us as part of the same universal Church by the grace of God and yes I know Catholic means universal. I look forward to the time when we can stand together and sing holy holy holy is the Lord God Almighty who was and is and is to come.

Yes...yes, true, but Jesus couldn't be a priest under Jewish law because he was not from the tribe of Levi, so if he had been acting as a priest, he would be breaking the law. However, he is a priest in the order of Melchizedek, who was a KING priest. That's the importance of that. Hebrews talks of this as well as the Psalms. Jesus is a king priest...not just a priest in the way the Jewish thought of priests or the way that Catholics think of priests today. And if Jesus is our king, he is also our high priest and the only priest we need to look to because he is the Great High Priest and our intercessor. The veil was torn that separated Jews from the Holy of Holies. We can now go directly to the Holy of Holies and confess directly to him. Jesus fulfilled all the laws and covenants of the Old Testament and didn't do so to create a new system of rites and sacraments and obligations that must be fulfilled. He wrote the new covenant on our hearts, and Immanuel means God with us and the Holy Spirit dwells within man's heart. The tabernacle inner sanctum was covered by skins. That was abolished. Now, the new dwelling place of God himself is also surrounded by skin in the form of those who believe in him. Paul talked extensively about not exchanging one system of laws for another. The law does not redeem or sanctify or cleanse. NO LAW CAN. Jesus died to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It's his blood and holiness that cover us. Not our religious acts.

Why are you preaching? Why would we reject the traditions and faith practiced by and given to us by the apostles in favor of Luther?

    • @marstonmaxers
      @marstonmaxers 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@danieladkins5242 Traditions? Really? You're wondering about rejecting traditions? Traditions don't redeem. They don't save. They don't justify. Following rites and rituals can't bring righteousness. Too often, traditions are taught as necessary for entrance into eternity with Christ. The Jews believed this. Paul pointed this out, numerous times. Abraham was not saved by any Jewish tradition or law, not by observing the passover (since it didn't exist yet). Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as Righteousness. If anything else is preached but belief in Jesus's death and resurrection as sufficient, then it is a hallow message and misleading and binding. A new law. Another form of the Ten Commandments. The apostles' faith is the belief in Jesus. Faith means trusting in his work. Not our own. Not our ability to follow traditions or observe religious holidays, perform rites, pray the rosary, go to confession, attend mass every Sunday...nothing we can do can earn righteousness. That's the key. That's what gets lost. "Be Holy as I am Holy." That's the command. How can we achieve that by following tradition? What can you do to make yourself righteous. You need your past and future cleansed. That's the purpose of Jesus's death. He is our righteous. His blood covers us. Jesus preached this over and over. And so did the apostles. It was the ones who came after who began adding a bunch of other stuff. So much of Jesus's ministry centered on rebuking the religion authority for adding to the law. And now, the religious authority today has done the same thing.

    • @danieladkins5242
      @danieladkins5242 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Again with the long winded preaching ? You can reject Tradition and baptism or think you know better than the numerous saints such as Thomas Aquinas if you want. Your stance is unbiblical. And if all we need is Jesus, then why are you preaching to the quire?

It is always rather inconvenient when archeological evidence is inevitably found that challenges the secular view of history.
Also, I will say the position of the Protestant, I am one, is that Jesus took the role of our priest, forever. That's why we don't believe it is right or necessary to have a pope, or to confess our sins to a man, because Jesus is our high priest. Seeing as he is still very much alive I dont know why we would need to replace him. Just offering that viewpoint.

"Is any one among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects."

The Dead Sea Scrolls do not support the priesthood , only the priesthood of Christ. Every believer is a priest (1 Peter 2:9) and Jesus is our High Priest (Hebrews 4;14-16) . We pray to, and commune with our Heavenly Father directly through Christ only (John 14:6). Therefore we no longer need any other priest or saint. They can’t help us.

    • @torbreww

@@MMC9583 yes, of course there is intercessory prayer, but in scripture dead people never pray for the living or vice versa, and all believers are priests (1 Peter 2:4-5) and Christ is our high priest so we can pray to God directly (Hebrews 4:14-16). We intercede for each other just like in the verses you cited, and the Holy Spirit intercedes for us (Romans 8:26-27). Thank the Lord.

'According to the great Isaiah scroll from Qumran, Isaiah told king Ahaz to ask for a sign from the Mother of the LORD your God (Isaiah 7.11), and he gave the prophecy of the Virgin who would bear a son. The Masoretic Hebrew interpretation however has ‘Ask a sign from the LORD your God’ - no mention of Mother. This difference requires changing one letter into another that is very similar.
According to the great Isaiah scroll from Qumran, the mysterious servant of the LORD was an "anointed man", but the Masoretic Hebrew has a "disfigured man" (Isa.52.14). This difference requires removing, or adding, one letter to the end of the word. The Christians understood the word as ‘anointed’ and said this was a prophecy of Jesus, but the Masoretic text excludes this understanding. The Targum of Isaiah, which is the Aramaic translation made by a Jew, did have a text that said ‘anointed’. So too the texts of Deuteronomy 32.8 and 32.43 are different in the Qumran and Masoretic forms, and in each case, the Masoretic text excludes the Christian interpretation of the verse.'

The wife of the king in Israel
wasn't known as the Queen but rather the king's mother was. Jesus is King and Mother Mary is Queen.
1.) David's prime minister was known as he who had the power to bind and loose and had the keys to the kingdom. When Jesus Christ told St. Peter he was conferring to him the keys, he was making him His Prime Minister, his Vicar, and giving him the keys to the kingdom (Matt. 16:19).
2.) While a virgin, Eve listened to and believed the fallen angel (Gen. 3:1; Rev. 20:2) whereas while a virgin, ever-virgin Mother Mary listened to and believed the archangel sent from God (Luke 1:26-45).
3.) 12 tribes were in the Old Testament (Gen. 35, Deut. 33 and elsewhere) and 12 apostles in the New Testament (Matthew 10, 19:28, Mark 3, and Luke 6).
4.) The Old Testament Ark contained Manna, the word on 2 stone tablets, and Aaron, the High Priest's Rod (Hebrews 9:4, Exodus 16:33-34, 1 Kings 8:9).
5.) Mother Mary is the New Testament Ark and carried within her the Word made Flesh, the Manna from Heaven, and our High Priest, Jesus Christ (John 1:14, 6:51, Heb. 4:14-16).
6.) 2 Sam. 6:9 and Luke 1:43: David and Elizabeth were both filled with awe. David wondered how the Ark could come to him and so did Elizabeth.
7.) 2 Samuel 6:1; Luke 1:56: the Old Testament Ark of the Covenant was with Obed-Edom for 3 months and the New Ark, Mother Mary, was with Elizabeth for 3 months.
      8.) 2 Sam. 6:11; 1 Kings 8:9-11 compared with Luke 1:56; 2:21-22.
St. Paul was correct when he said the Old gave way to the New and that the Old was a type:
      1 Cor. 10: 1-6:
[1] For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea. 9.) Inside the Davidic Tabernacle and temple there was ornamentation, gold, Cherubim statues on top of the Ark, artwork, palm tree motif, faces of lions, etc, per 2 Chr. 3. Inside Catholic churches there are statues and/or icons, artwork, gold, etc.
10.) The Davidic Tabernacle had priests, the sacrifice of flesh and blood, and rolling back of sins. The church has priests, the Eucharist, and absolvence of sins per confession of them per 1 John 1:8-10 in accordance with John 20:23.

Even the Talmud/Mishnah (good for historical place markers but not much else) states that the Masoretic Text/MT (a medieval text used by the KJV, NIV, NASB, etc) was corrupted as the Talmud/Mishnah described *conflicting texts, contradictions, and multiple, competing rabbis intentionally altering scriptures ultimately corrupting it).
Exodus 1:5 in the Dead Sra Scrolls (DSS) agrees with the Septuagint against tthe MT that all the souls from Jacob were 75, not 70, thus agreeing with St. Stephen in Acts 7:14.
The Septuagint for 1 and 2 Samuel are backed up by 3 DSS and the MT is known among scholars as botching 1 and 2 Samuel badly.
The MT actually left out an entire line from Psalm 145 that the DSS and the Septuagint preserved, thus the so-called masters of vowel memorization not only forgot vowels but also consonants.
Psalm 40:6(7): a messianic proof text for the Incarnation:
The MT: Thou hast dug out my ears.
The Septuagint: A body thou hast prepared me.
Concerning another messianic psalm, Psalm 22:16, the DSS agrees with the Septuagint against the MT.
Much, much more than this as well...

The Masoretes attempted to rewrite the Tanakh but have been exposed by the Dead Sea Scrolls: The Tanakh, based upon the Masoretic Text (MT), is corrupted:
Even the Talmud/Mishnah states that the Masoretic Text (a medieval text(s) used by the KJV, NIV, NASB, etc) was corrupted as the Talmud/Mishnah described *conflicting texts, contradictions, and multiple, competing rabbis intentionally altering scriptures ultimately corrupting it).* Je ws also used the Septuagint (translated in the mid 3rd century BC) and far older than the MT which isn't original scripture and not a BC text.
Paleo Hebrew, used after Moses' time and used from the 12th to 6th century BC (around 2,000 years older than the MT), gave way to Square Hebrew (around 1,300 years older than the MT), which then eventually gave way to Greek, as evidenced by the Septuagint, which is around 1,000 years than the MT. The Septuagint predates Christianity, used when Greek became the lingua franca, and its use in synagogues by Jews around the Mediterranean was substantial.
Paleo Hebrew, Square Hebrew, and the Septuagint (LXX) within the Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS) preserve the originals, and overwhelmingly disagree with the MT in numerous instances; the Septuagint predates Christianity and scrolls from it are found within the Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS).
1.) Exodus 1:5 in the DSS Square Hebrew agrees with the Septuagint against tthe MT that all the souls from Jacob were 75, not 70, thus agreeing with St. Stephen in Acts 7:14.
2.) The older DSS, the Samaritan Pentateuch, Aramaic Targums, etc, agree with the Septuagint against the MT for Deut. 32:8-9 in using sons/angels of God and not sons of Israel.
3.) The DSS for Deuteronomy 32:43 lines up with the Septuagint against the M saying the angels are to worship messiah.
4.) The Septuagint for 1 and 2 Samuel are backed up by 3 DSS and the MT is known among scholars as botching 1 and 2 Samuel badly.
5.) The MT wrongly (some evidence for #4) laughably has Saul becoming king at age one and ruling for two years.
6.) The MT actually left out an entire line from Psalm 145 that the DSS and the Septuagint preserved, thus the so-called masters of vowel memorization not only forgot vowels but also consonants.
7.) Psalm 40:6(7): a messianic proof text for the Incarnation:
The MT: Thou hast dug out my ears.
The Septuagint: A body thou hast prepared me.
8.) Concerning another messianic psalm, Psalm 22:16, the DSS agrees with the Septuagint against the MT.
9.) Baruch, Sirach, Tobit, and Psalm 151 are written in Hebrew in the DSS.
10.) ▪︎The chronology of Genesis 11 and the year of the flood of the Paleo Hebrew and the Septuagint line up against the MT. Shem is not Melchizedek:
▪︎Literary sources before 100 AD that agree with the LXX: 2 Esdras, Josephus and Philo (30/70 AD) did not use the Septuagint to come to their conclusion that lines up with the Septuagint.
▪︎Eupolemus, the Jewish 2nd century BC historian's chronology, comes close to aligning with the Paleo Hebrew and Septuagint and not the MT.
▪︎Jewish Demetrius the Chronicler's (3rd century BC) chronology comes very close to the Paleo Hebrew and Septuagint and against the MT.
*Justin Martyr said the scriptures in his time period were being altered.* See Jeremiah 8:8.
      ▪︎biblearchaeology.org/research/biblical-chronologies/4349-mt-sp-or-lxx-deciphering-a-chronological-and-textual-conundrum-in-genesis-5
Since synagogues around the Mediterranean used Septuagint and Square Hebrew, even in Palestine, Greek was the lingua franca, Jesus grew up near Sepphoris where Hebrew and Greek were both spoken and where Joseph could ply his trade, Christ quoted the scriptures, spoke to the Syrophoenician woman, and Mark/Luke were written to Romans/Greeks, some will be hard-pressed to prove Jesus used only Hebrew.
Outside Judea, close to 100% of the diaspora synagogue inscriptions are in Greek. In Judea, where the default language is Aramaic, 80% of synagogue inscriptions are Greek.
Some have said the Deuterocanon was never written in Hebrew but the DSS (Dead Sea Scrolls) proved that to be false as at least 3 so far (Baruch, Sirach, and Tobit of the Deuterocanon), have been found within the DSS written in Hebrew, and using the word "recension" against them is a continual knee-jerk reaction to the Deuterocanon being written in Hebrew and moving the goal posts.
Concerning key messianic scriptures, Catholics, Copts, Orthodox, and Protestants see that the leaven of the rabbis and then the Masoretes seemed to target scriptures that point to Jesus Christ. (Matthew 16:6).
The Paleo Hebrew, Square Hebrew, and the Septuagint all agree with each other against the MT far more than they disagree, thus the starting point is to sideline the MT.
There are dozens and dozens of instances where the Paleo Hebrew, Square Hebrew, and the Septuagint agree against the MT: By the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses let every word be established. Deut. 19:15; 2 Cor. 13:1.
Given that Septuagint scrolls were found with Paleo Hebrew and Square Hebrew scrolls in the DSS, one would again be hard-pressed to prove that Christians composed the Septuagint and, as well, the Torah was translated into Greek from 283-246 BC under Ptolemy II Philadelphus and the prophets and writings within the next 100 years.
Septuagint Chronicles is quoted by Eupolemos in the middle of the 2nd century BC, and Septuagint Job by Pseudo-Aristeas in the beginning of the 1st century BC. The translation of Isaiah contains allusions to historical situations and events that point to the years 170-150 BCE" (Textual Criticism of the Hebrew Bible, Emanuel Tov, p 131, 2012).* The Torah was translated into Greek from 283-246 BC under Ptolemy II Philadelphus and the prophets and writings for the Septuagint within the next 100 years. Thus the Septuagint was not created by Christianity but preceded it by centuries.
Septuagint fragments found at Qumran (Lev.), the Nahal Hever (Habbakuk, near Ein Gedi), dated 50 BC. There was almost exclusive use of Greek in all synagogue inscriptions everywhere in the world.
