One would suppose it was Adam who named the sun and moon. Therefore, at this point, they were only big and small light. In any case it is a sign of the antiquity of Genesis, that whenever it was written (this first chapters at least), there was no name for sun and moon.
This was written by God Himself, given to Adam, preserved by his seed, and compiled by Moses.
