I keep a cheat sheet on each crop. So if I'm planting potatoes I grab my Potato sheet. All my learned tips and suggestions including soil preparing are there. Makes is super easy. We can't remember everything. Also if you get a new tip you can simply add it to that sheet.

I was only able to find "Sweet Orange Cherry Tomatoes" on the Canadian version of the Stokes Seeds website. They are not taking any individual orders for any of their products due to technical issues and high order volume. The USA Stokes Seed website does not carry the Sweet Orange. Stokes USA also states that as they service commercial growers, they require a minimum $250 order and they may not even be able to send you a print catalog.
Can you recommend another cherry tomato that you have had success with?

I saw you videos on Fall garden care, mulching, and drip tape/garden watering- but do you lay cardboard down first, kill grass with tarp, or just lay garden soil directly in the ground. Laying down cardboard first works pretty good, and in my opinion works better than killing the grass with a tarp or putting soil directly on the ground. Maybe we should put a video together about starting a new Garden!😊
It would be great to see some of your soil amendments for sale ,the higher p,k is something I had found from research years back and happy to hear this spoken about with so much always being put on nitrogen and this is not the case if you want your plants to thrive.
I've been looking into some long keeper varities as well. I've heard they aren't as flavorful but still a lot more flavor than store bought.
My daughter wants to try growing one variety of tomatoes for the first time in a large pot on her balcony. Suggestions for a productive variety in that scenario?
Rosella purple or rosella crimson which are dwarf plants that won't get too tall but still produce normal size tomatoes, have a blessed day!

Great info, thank you! I can't seem to find a good organic low N, higher P-K fertilizer for my tomatoes and peppers. I have been able to boost the P with natural ammendments, but am struggling to find something to boost the K. I really don't want to use Amazon if I don't have to. Suggestions? I have a question for you about the use of humidity domes when starting seeds indoors. I was told back in the 1990’s that domes were only necessary when propagating cuttings and not to be used for seed starting. What are your thoughts on this topic?
I always use them as it keeps the moisture in and prevents the soil from drying out while waiting for the seeds to germinate, but as soon as they pretty much all germinate I remove it as it could encourage damping off.
We are told not to prune cherry tomatoes and determinates, I watched a video and it appeared that some dwarf tomato plants were pruned. I have only been growing for the past 4 years. Last year I was not able to start from seed so. I bought 2 bush and one cherry plant from one of our nursery loations. I didn't like tending to them in my small space, I had a tough time managing them. What are your thoughts about pruning dwarfs and determinates?
I was told to add calcium nitrate when the tomato starts to bloom. The nitrogen is high so I was wondering if that would increase vegetation and decrease production.
Calcium nitrate is a synthetic fertilizer to help control blossom end rot, I'd never useany synthetic fertilizer as it's detrimental to your soil biology! If your having issues with BER I'd suggest using some gypsum which is calcium and sulfur and it also won't effect your PH,you may be a little low on boron which helps the calcium get to where it needs to go in the plant,but be very careful how much of the 20 mule team borax you put on,I don't know how big of an area you are amending so if you let me know I can make a suggestion of how much to use.

I do somewhat, I tru not to get too carried away with it though.
I've noticed looking around the stores that all the plant fertilizer, even the ones specified for "tomato" are all MUCH too high in nitrogen. Or even if the nitrogen is low, the other numbers are even lower. It is a frustrating struggle.
Yes I agree,only reason I can see why they do that is because people like seeing a nice big green plant and that makes them think that they're good gardeners and they will want to buy more next year,it's all about money!

Yes, we have recorded a video on our favorite corn, but haven't had the time to edit and publish it yet. Logan-Zenner seed is where we get our favorite seed from.
Last year we had record heat so it was too hot for tomatoes to bloom, as soon as temps got lower the bloomed like crazy. Tomatoes won’t ripen either if too much heat. I’m getting them
Out earlier this year trying to beat the heat.
I wished they wouldn't ripen in extreme heat but they do, because when I'm growing world record tomatoes I want them to ripen very slowly so they gain the most weight possible but in high heat they continue to ripen quite quickly unfortunately!
The garden groups on FB are mostly ridiculous. I'm in a bunch and I'm constantly telling beginners to get on TH-cam and follow the experienced gardeners. The answers they get only confuse them.

Where do you live that you can put your tomatoes out so early? I’m in Michigan and I won’t be able to plant outside for more than a month!

You can start your tomatoes indoors later or, even better, start them earlier indoors, but keep them in a more cool area so they develop a nice thick and sturdy stem. The cooler air temp will slow the growth enough that they will be not too big by transplanting time. Keep them on the heat mat in the cool area with no dome cover.

I have a small area I start seeds in my finished basement with a T5 light and heat mats with plastic domes. It gets too hot! So I use a tan to move the air.
You should remove the domes as soon as the seeds start to poke up out of the soil.

Yes you can,I'd probably add a little more greensand for the potassium factor or kelp would be ok too,both have a fair amount of potassium in them.

I have another question….should I add the potato fertilizer I purchased from Gurney’s called Potato Alive …it’s a 3-4-3 to your potting mix …and if so how much?
Yes you can add that fertilizer, I'd recommend just using a little less than what they recommend since there's already a good amount of amendments in my mix. Blessings!
Should I still up the amount of kelp or green sand?
Great video. I have a question I have a few cherry tomato plants (Indeterminate) that are 5ft tall. and have never developed any flowers. I came to realize that my nitrogen could be too high. Could that he the case? if so is there a way to balance it to a lower level?
Yes that is probably a case of too much nitrogen, I'd suggest try flushing them with a lot of water to try to get rid of the excess nitrogen, and then add some phosphorus to try to get them to bloom,you'll need to find something that has zero nitrogen in the fertilizer such as bat guano or seabird guano or rock phosphate, these are all slow acting and will take a bit for the biology to break them down so the plant can utilize them,sorry there's no quick fix unless you go the synthetic route
Any info on using Epson salts before planting tomatoes?
Probably not needed! That's another myth! If you've been growing organically I'm pretty sure you don't need it. If you have too much magnesium in your soil it tightens it up and so you end up with less oxygen getting to your biology which isn't good. Have a blessed day!

Is it okay to mulch with grass clippings?
Yes as long as the grass hasn't had any weed&feed etc. put on it and only put a thin layer as a thick layer will heat up and also it'll get slimy and nasty.
At what point should I amend with calcium? My tomatoes got bottom rot one year, and I was told I needed to add crushed egg shells to the soil. I’d like to avoid that possibility this year. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
I'd suggest that you get some gypsum which is calcium and sulfur and apply that to at least a 2' radius around each plant, work it in to the top 2" of your soil, wish we had our online store open so you could get what you need from us,we'll have a water soluble gypsum which is much faster acting that would work good for your BER. Powdered myco is likely not needed (& can be expensive.) Bagged product could well be unusable due to shipping delays & temps by the time you receive it unless you're getting it direct from producer. Word is the liquid myco is more stable. IDK The myco you get is likely not indigenous to your area.
Shredded leaves or leaf mould from your area added to compost or used as mulch is much better. You can also drench & let soak your seedlings in a vermicompost slurry prior to planting. Much better if you are using fresh worm castings from a local source.
Packaged mycorrhizae works great as long as it's not too old,there's an expiration date on the package just go by that, I've tested it many times and it is a very beneficial product! Homemade compost is very good also but impossible to find at a store. Municipal compost isn't usually any good as it has been heated way to hot plus you have no idea how much lawn chemicals are in it etc.
Rather than recommending a specific light - placed at a specific height away from the plant and a specific illumination setting, it would help me more if you could tell me what the lumens should be at the top of my plants. Would it be possible for you to measure the (average) lumens at the top of the plants in your grow room?
Do you have a ppfd meter that is accurate, if so you should be around 300 ppfd, that's just kinda middle of the road average.why I said what I said is because most people don't have a 600.00 meter so I was giving a general idea that will work good enough. Do you rotate your plants?
No, there's no need to rotate your plants,nature doesn't. In nature the plant dies and then it decomposes where it had grown and then next year seeds germinate and grow in the same area,the decomposed plant had taken up the nutrients that it needed to grow and now those nutrients are being put back into the ground,so it's really better to not rotate crops as long as your biology is thriving, if you've used synthetic fertilize then that's a whole different story.
