I think it's about time Special Teams get discussed with the same frequency and value as Offense/Defense across ALL teams. These games are not wins without Jack Fox and Jake Bates, and surely there are players on other teams who deserve more chatter.
Detroit has a history of superior special teams play. Which was good, because we had so many bad teams for years they were often the only bright spot 😄
I’m a Dallas fan and I see the 🦁 Lions team play with out fear and they Just believe they can win, they are true Champions and have the ability to take it all the way to become the Super Bowl Champs, the Lions are a Team and Teams win 🏆 not individual players but a team ❤ shout out to the Lions, Respect is earned, they Have it.
I've been a lions fan as long as I can remember, and only being 31 years old, that means I watched them for the first time in my life, win a playoff game last year. Dan Campbell is nothing short of a football god incarnate. My Detroit lions are actually a good football team and nobody can take that away from me.
30+ year fan myself and being clowned on the entire time for picking the worst franchise in nfl history. Every dog has its day though and we are feasting this year!
31 years old as well and I've never been able to relax during a football game until this season (last night excluded), normally I'm pacing around and only sit during halftime. this is crazy
Half your age but Michigan grown and almost out of high school. Dad is a devout lions fan so that passed on to me. This year I’ve finally been getting a little more comfortable every Sunday. In years past I’d get concerned how we’d throw the game but not this year. I’m only concerned with the various things that will kick us off to a slow start.
As a Ravens fan it makes me sick to like this comment but it is currently true. 😶😮💨 I also agree this will probably be the SB match up and said as much to my little brother a bit ago. We'll see. 🤷🏻♂️ Maybe Lamar finally makes it.
Wouldn't it be great if Houston finds his game again? I am rooting for him. He had so much upside until he got hurt. Maybe, the football gods decided to make it so the Lions had to give him some reps because they were short on DE's. I hope it is the start of his comeback.
This was amazing to be there and see it Live. Lions were chanting Jared Goff and Let's Go Lions throughout the game. They tried to drown us out with music..😂..the aftermath leaving was also amazing. It was so many Lions fans. Bates for the WIN. We could be heard all over NRG stadium inside and outside 😂
As an ex-Detroit resident, born and raised, I waited for decades to finally see a championship caliber team. Looks more like a Detroit - Kansas Superbowl.
Let's not get carried away with 5 ints. 1.1 from a hailmary at end of quarter. Should not count 2. 2 ints were from tipped balls and one bounced around before getting caught. Not worried. 3. 1 int was from Willams not running his route properly. Had he this would not have been an int. Five look bad unless you really break it down. Goff is fine. This team is fire and I am stoked. Long ways away from 2008. I love these guys.
Goff has been playing near perfect football all season and it's not something I expected him to maintain every game, I knew a slip up was coming. But what makes this team so special is that the QB can be having a poor game and everyone steps up to still find a way to win
I've been watching the LIONS, for 60 years, I'm not even worried about J Goff. They used to lose games like these. A HELLA COOL, early Birthday Present. Since 1965, GOLIONS.
@woady7073 clearly didn’t watch Lions football. The old Lions are the ones who are up 3 possessions at halftime and lose to a walk off field goal. That’s what he’s saying.
You know I’m glad we have a team that can allow Jared Goff to have a bad game. In the past our defense didn’t have the talent that we have this year. We can really lean on defense so offense can get their legs under control.
Texans were handed every opportunity to win the game but squandered it. Stroud deserved some of the blame, but this loss was fully on Bobby Slowik. That was some of the most cowardly, nonsensical play calling in the second half. Choosing to run on a 2nd and 30 when your RB is averaging less than 2 yards per carry is insane. Yeah, the Lions shouldn’t have won. But the Texans 100% deserved to lose. Pathetic.
Hats off to Houston and that defense wow. They outcoached the lions that first half executed perfectly and then The second half hit. People want to blame Goff for a bad game but I saw Houston making plays. 2 tipped deflections for picks and that fastball that zoomed by laporta were amazing plays. Jalen pitre was maybe the best player on the field last night for either team. This Houston team is gonna be a problem at full strength in 1 more year with a better play caller.
No one's talking about the fact that Bates field goals were almost at the top of the uprights, the man can probably hit a 70 yarder with room to spare. He has a monster leg!
I was losing hope after the first half ngl, but seeing the gradual comeback and then finally those field goals my mood went up and up and up. It was a beautiful game and I look forward to the Lions likely extending that winning streak into 8 games when we face the Jaguars here at home.

Used to be that kickers and punters had to wear low numbers like quarterbacks, and it's still usually done, so 39 is weird for a kicker. Used to be running backs/ defensive backs number.
What's the significance of Bates's number 39?
It's because the low numbers are all taken...30's are usually reserved for running backs and defensive backs. Kickers are usually 1-19
