This is exactly the type of video you should be making. Well done! And keep them coming.

Though the octabox might be a little cumbersome, I really like the light spread in those shots.
I never thought of using it handheld. Most of the homes I shoot are dark and have wood either on the walls, or on the ceiling or both.
I’m thinking a box like that will allow me to push more light without harsh edged shadows or reflective glare off shiny objects.
Can’t wait to see how it pans out.
    Thanks

I can also seen the warmer green and orange hues in this video.

Matthew love your point on bright harsh light carrying in green hues from trees, what is the answer to this? I done a shoot lately and even with my editing, I feel there is a slight green mist around the entire scene. I have tried my best to use various 'sliders' to get rid of this but there still seems to be a green hue, maybe the mint green walls also added to this, but my eye and brain is trying to fight this. One idea IS NOT to add a black scrim to the outside window, what do you suggest?

I know you use an A7III to shoot with. What picture profile do you use when shooting?

Just subscribed, great. What are you using please for remote capture with your Sony? I used a CamRanger for a while with my A7R111 but not good.

I'm currently using the Camranger 2 with my Sony A7r IV

So appreciate you making videos like this! Question: I’ve seen you shoot where you’re in the frame aiming your flash straight at the ceiling vs this softbox technique. Can I ask what the different results are? How do you decide which technique is best for the space? Thank you!

Hey, Thanks so much for the comment! I really appreciate it. Most times, I'm not necessarily deciding what technique will work best during the actual shoot...I'm shooting to give me plenty of exposure options to choose from while editing in post. That's when I'll actually decide what exposures and softbox lighting angles worked best.
Hopefully, that answered your question. If not, let me know specifically (via a time code) what you're referring to and I'll try to reply back.

    Hi Matt,
I know this is an older video I'm commenting on.
Where do you typically set your focus for your interior photos? I'm always taking a lot of time triple checking my focus during shoots. Also, Is f/8 the widest aperture you would recommend for interior photos? I'm usually around f/11 but that requires more flash power.
Thanks for all your videos and being generous with your information.

Shoot at f8.0 for most (the widest I shoot - ISO 320). I might go to 11 and adjust ISO for small bathrooms/laundry rooms etc. to help keep it tack sharp overall. As for focus, use auto-wide if on Sony or equivalent, and set a custom back-button for focus (will speed you up). Take advantage of the benefits of today's autofocus. You'll need that time to speed up your workflow with flash settings/compositing etc. Goodluck from Canada!
Also, if you or anyone else here doesn't use a grey card for interiors - BUY ONE! ;)
