The company I work for has a tractor spec'd just like that. They bought it after an extended rental on a job I had. At first, a really nice machine. Comfortable cab, good heat, (got it in the fall/winter) smooth controls, loads of power. Summer came, and the AC went. The dealer service department couldn't do much for it, four tries and still no luck. Then after using it as a utility machine with several operators, the cab starting coming apart, trim, broken latches, two new Operator's doors, (broken welds at grab handles) for $1700 each, (from the dealer we use). Then the brakes got weak and spongy and hydraulic valves starting leaking by. At first impression, a super machine. After a thousand hours, not so much. 2000ish hours on it the last time I had the "pleasure" of using it.
I don't have a very high opinion of the Volvo dealer we have, but I do like the excavators, wheel loaders and articulated trucks. Skidsteers didn't hold up well for us and the backhoes are less than stellar with some wear. We still use 410Ds and 416 and 420C Cats. The dealer told us after the A/C issue Volvo doesn't even offer the backhoes for sale in the states any more. But, any machine is only as good as as it's dealer.
I would worry about parts on a Volvo. I just got a 35c mini x and didn't realize the lack of aftermarket support. Just trying to find track rollers was difficult. Finally found some on ebay. Seems like it's mostly dealer only support...but I am still new at this game. All I know is when I need to get something for my new holland tractor, I just call the local dealer. Pretty simple.
Not many at all over here, side shifts are better suited to tight quarter work. I’m sure they are handy for many things, but the wide stance of the center pivot has a lot of advantages as well.
gotta love a VOLVO , the last guy i worked with bought a BL71 brand new in '07 to replace a fresh CAT 428 , the driver loved the VOLVO after a day and said it was a far better machine to spend the day in . love your channel , terry in ireland .
That's good to hear, I have heard of problems with parts here though. I did like the machine, it seemed to be very strong and comfortable. Thanks for watching!
I tried a vovlo backhoe a while back when I saw one at the local Ritchie bros auction, it had a 4 in 1 and the balance of it felt ideal. I would say for any future purchase dealer support and/or parts would be the big factor as I know you keep your machines in great shape! Have a great day Frank!
@@Digginok yeah, unfortunately I don't deal with Volvo equipment but brand is all relative to the dealer support... as long as you have great parts availability and a great service department to pair with it, brands are just trivial. I know at least for my machine, Holt Cat has been great for addressing things when I submit them through my "chain of command" if our field mechanics can't get to it. That is a very valuable thing in my book.
Yeah they probable aint the best for parts in the US but Have a look at some of the videos on the 3cx contractor I'd love to see what you think of a euro machine 👍
Yeah! It was pretty funny actually! I haven’t been scolded in a while, he did a nice job though. The b95 will be around for a while, ideally I will keep it as a back up. I wasn’t really ready for this one anyway.
I think there is probably a switch on the machine somewhere to change from excavator control pattern to backhoe control pattern; at least there seems to be on most of the other equipment now.
Oh man! I got all distracted by everyone getting in trouble lol! You can tell you're a good guy, Frank... when he came over to talk to you about your joy ride, a lot of guys would have been all defensive, but you're a stand-up guy. Anyway... that did look to be a nice solid machine. And I hear ya on the selling price - you know it would have kept going up and up to make it yours. It'll make a good machine for somebody! Thanks for the video!
burningdinosaurs it was pretty funny to say the least! Been a while since I was scolded, I probably needed it too! I still have my ole B, we make money that’s what counts. Thanks for watching my friend!
I don't have much input on a Volvo backhoe, we rented on for a couple weeks several years ago, but I don't feel that's enough seat time to give you an informed opinion of them. Had to laugh when I saw that manager making a b line towards you though. Thanks for sharing.
Little did that guy know to do what you do everyday on commercial construction sites you have at least $3million worth of liability insurance Hahahaha. He probably doesn’t know because he works for a city.
That looked like a nice machine from where I am sitting. That machine appeared so strong that it was a little bit jumpy-jerky. You never know what kind of money you are bidding against. Given the condition of everything I seen in the video you picked a good time to stop. If your bid would have won that I would have sent you a shirt that said ''I GOT IT FOR CHEAP" That is how my Dad taught me to play also. Start looking long before you have to have it and only drop bids you like. Happy hunting you will find the right one. The only problem is after you find and buy the right one 10 more come right at you in the next 6 months. It is going to take something special to replace the B95 you to have spent a lot of time together! I am holding out hope for something bucket compatible. You got 10-12K worth of buckets for the B95. Those buckets are like wheel weights and duels on a tractor everyone that looks wants them, but they want them for free!
Yeah it was nice, but I’m not loosing any sleep over it. Making money is what machines are about, so if I can find a decent machine for good price that’s how I prefer to do it. Brand names don’t mean too much but owning buckets is important for the work I do. Thanks for watching Tim!
Excellent and helpful review. Been looking for a review of one of the Volvo BL60/70Bs as I'm considering pulling the trigger right now - very hard to find much info about them. They look good and well-built - surprised Volvo stopped making them - hard to compete against a half dozen established backhoe manufacturers who have entrenched customer bases. If you liked what you saw on that Volvo, keep looking at auctions. There's a steady stream of decent machines coming out of rental fleets from Sunbelt, United Rentals etc. If you're persistent, I've seen some really good deals in the last year or two.
That was a nice backhoe Frank. I’m not familiar with Volvo equipment at all. The Highway Dept I retired from ran Case, HD and New Holland machines. My only concerns would have been dealer support, you can handle the labor but what about parts? You have to have a machine that is ready to go at all times to make your living. You can’t wait 3 weeks for parts from Europe. The county that bought that was in the same situation as I was with the state. If I had a backhoe down at one maintenance yard I could move one from another yard. No big deal. Something you have to consider in your case and I know you have. Have a good day Frank
Yeah the dealer seems good for Volvo , but I have heard of problems with parts. Ideally I would have a second machine, maybe someday Thanks for watching!
One thing you weren't calculating. You could have sold yours for darn near the price of the Volvo. So you weren't spending 30K maybe you would have to spend 5-10K to be in a 1,000 hr beast, You blew it on that one.
It’s hard to say how much the bid would have went up to, after the auction this machine came up for sale for 45,000. I know new holland machines, I know nothing about the Volvo, which has little to no dealer support in North America. They have been discontinued here. So I’m good with my choice. Maybe I blew it maybe I’m still in a machine I can actually get parts for, who knows.
@@Digginok As hard as you work we'd all love to see you in a shiny new machine. Be nice if Volvo would sponsor you and give you a machine. Guys on other sites are getting free Kubota tractors - you certainly deserve a new backhoe from someone.

Good lookin machine. Looks like the fellas at the county what ran her took good care of their equipment. Except for that drain plug and probably an oil pan gasket to deal with that oil leak she looked pretty much ready to roll off the back of a truck and get stuck in on a job. You could probably have done the old farmer's trick and put some liquid up in the front tires to try and balance out the back-end bounce too. Eh, there'll be another one sooner or later, and that NH of yours seems to get the business done pretty well in the meantime.
Good morning Frank, sorry about missing the Volvo, if you get chance try out a JCB , I know you did mention about parts availability. Anyway take care my friend and catch you next time 👍😎🇬🇧.
Not a big deal, to be honest I wasn't really ready to buy it. I would like to check out a JCB, not too many around here though. Thanks For watching Wayne! 👍😎🇺🇸
@@Digginok somewhere about 2000 the quality of JCB 3cx/ 215 type seems to of gone down hill, Google search them and what some guys say isn't good, even back in the U.K. I grew up on them and still own an old one now as you know . I wouldn't buy a newer one from what I read about them. There are some real cheap newer ones for the age hours in Alberta/ other provinces here in Canada on Kijiji online classifieds right now to, I was looking last week .
30 G's is a reasonable price for that machine but you probably would not like it. Balance is very important on a TLB and if a machine is back heavy it can cause a ton of problems when performing loader work. Also detracts from the effectiveness of the front wheel drive. I think you made the correct decision to drop out of the bidding. I think you should keep your old NH and diversify your operation with a small dozer or a small excavator. A good mini is a PC 50 by Komatsu. Not too big, not too small. Kubotas and Taeuchi's are good too. Keep looking, lots of good used equipment out there.
I think it would have sold higher if I was willing to bid more, it was probably worth 45000. I'd like a bigger machine, maybe a 120 sized ex would be nice. But I know I can make money with the backhoe, not sure about trying to find the work for other machines.
@@Digginok I have a JD120 and I prefer this size because you can move it around with a dump truck and tag trailer. It would be a good "next step" for you. You could haul it on your rig, no problem. When I started out back in 82', all I had was a JD550 dozer and an old IH 1600 flatbed truck to haul it on, (no trailer). I had to keep a day job to supplement income. Then got a 410 TLB and trailer. I converted my IH flatbed into a dump truck with some scrap metal and an old hoist. With these three key pieces I could diversify enough to break out and be self employed, (1985). Diversification is the secret to staying in dirt work business because work is so seasonal and opportunities keep changing. Can't put all your eggs in one basket. Keep on digging, you are a great operator and equipment maintainer. Try to find a plumbing contractor in your area that can keep you busy, that is where your bread will be buttered.
I gotta say Frank I think you could have given that valvo a good home she was a perdy sweet machine looks like! Reckon there's plenty more out there tho buddy keep on diggin👍
You are a very good operator and quite clever at repairing the new holland......the Volvo is a very superior machine than the new holland......try a jcb though if you appreciate good equipment
The things that would concern me running a Volvo would be dealer network, as not as common as other makes. The cost of parts for a European machine in North America might scare you more than NH to. I run a Finish Valtra tractor here in Canada people say JD parts are expensive, Valtra's not far behind and maybe more on some stuff! There probably isn't jobber stuff for it online on Ebay or other companies like there is for the NH/other brands. I'd bet used parts are hard to find as well if you needed anything bigger due to less of them wrecked around as well. I know Letsdig wanted a blank plug for his rock truck muffler it was over $300 a couple years ago. He was pretty mad about the cost for a bit of pressed tin and a muffler clamp. A few of us contacted volvo on their TH-cam page to give him the parts in return for the free advertising he gives them, they actually did donate the 2 parts in the end as a thank you. There has been a couple of Volvo TLB's kicking round Kijiji online classifieds here in Manitoba for about $35000 Canadian . I'm sure the dealers had the same machines over a couple of years or so, as they were listed when I got my JCB. If it's something you are serious about I'd look here in Canada and import a machine if shipping/ import costs would work out in your favor . your exchange rate to ours is pretty good the US $ is costing us around 1. 30 - $1.34 right now so that pretty well stopped me buying parts out of the U.S as $300 plus gets added to every $1000 we spend pretty quick. Thanks for the Video. Take care
How much are you invested in the various buckets for your New Holland? Do they crossover to other makes? (Equipment purchases are always difficult. But it sure makes a difference having the right type of equipment for the job.) Do you get jobs because of your superior skills as a operator (quality & speed)? (Anyone can rent equipment.) Sorry about all the questions.
Not sure if the buckets will work well with other brands. Around 1200$ per bucket. Skill is why I’m hired, you are correct anyone can rent equipment. I could probably rent a dental chair, but getting customers might be a problem! 😂
You never know when is the best time to buy. I suppose right now during this virus there might be some good deals out there if you're sure you can get enough work. At least fuel is cheaper but they're still not giving away diesel.
I always get nervous when buying something new like that. I'm always afraid I'm getting ready to buy a money sucker with something bad wrong with it. I know what I have and I usually end up just rebuilding what I got. If I'm going to sink money into something I'd rather it be in a machine I have confidence in. That's just me though.
@@Digginok any idea why the county would get rid of a machine that only has 1000 hours? I know some municipalities get rid of stuff based on hours and some get rid of stuff based on the year model. I figure it's the latter or theres something bad wrong with that machine and they didnt want to fix it.
I wouldnt haul that thing home if ya gave it to me! Get ya a B95B up to 2011' that's the last of the tier3 models without the onboard bake crap! Lots of them on machinery trader.com

One of my friends runs volvo loaders; he says they love the machines but hate the oil leaks; he says they are constantly fixing oil leaks; i hear you on the brand thing; if its in good shape for a good price and reliable thats all that really matters; you have me a whole new perspective on new holland machines; question for you; does your new holland have more reach with the loader than that volvo or other machines? It looks to me like it does and to me that is worth a lot
wow equipment is alot cheaper out there then in the northeast. Around here I see people asking 25k for machines with 8k+ hours... and 20k for ancient machines
You went and looked at it and bid on but, it went to someone elses home. Next time you may buy the machine or maybe not. You have time to look B is still doing you good. Good things come to those that wait. I hope someday the machine you want falls in your lap.
That was very informative and while I think that probably would have been a very good deal, the way you were being inched up $1K at a time or so, who knows how far out of control that might have gotten? The right one is out there and with a good spotter looking out for you something will turn up. One thing's for sure, you'd have had a load of maintenance to do if you had won the bid. I like tdej80's comment about 10 more coming along right afterwards if you had won. That's for sure!
Samsung makes Volvos excavator . Good machines I have a JCB 214 love it. Hydrema backhoes are in Sweden and Akkerman bullet proof machine s not in USA. Volvo make awesome Farm tractors not sold here either. Not sure why? Fermec makes Terex good simple machines.

It may have went for 50000 if I had bid more. I'm not in a hurry.
Funny thing in my area you never see many Backhoes any more
Yeah not many people like them anymore! #MBGA!
I gotta say Frank I think you could have given that valvo a good home she was a perdy sweet machine looks like! Reckon there's plenty more out there tho buddy keep on diggin👍
For the right money I would have brought her home! I still got a good digger though!
Volvo makes a great machine, Chris at Letsdig18 makes all his money with Volvo and they never let him down
UnitCrane514 I thought Chris worked for his uncle? Seemed like a decent machine to me though.
How are you supposed to know what is wrong if a test drive can't be done?
That’s the problem with auctions
You are a very good operator and quite clever at repairing the new holland......the Volvo is a very superior machine than the new holland......try a jcb though if you appreciate good equipment
Charles De Francisco just not many JCB’s around my parts. I would not mind trying one out though. Thanks for watching!
Lännen and Huddig are the best backhoes 😄
Even fewer Huddig and never ever heard of Lannen. I don’t even have that weird a on my phone! 😂
@@Digginok well Lännen is basicly cheaper huddig and build in Finland 😄www.lannencenter.com/fi/tuotteet/-lannen/lannen-8600k---.html
Would you go with that CASE 580? Or the Volvo?
dont see many, or any?. articulated backhoes in america?. those can be huge machines.
Nope I haven’t seen any.
Сколько он стоит? На джойстиках !! Челюсти нет!!!
Take care
Thanks for the information, always good to get more input and different perspectives for sure. Thank you for watching.
Nice Work.. Don't know if I could handle that heavy ass end. Possible counterweight addition on the Volvo?
It’s not my problem, someone else bought it. A 4n1 front bucket would probably help a lot though.
I bought my dump truck at the Elk City Auction!
Cool! I didn’t even look at the trucks though. Thanks for watching!
Rule #1 at equipment auctions "DON'T DO NO CUT''N"! Don't ask me how I know lol!
Wow
Letsdig18 will tell you all about valvos
How much do they want for that Volvo
It sold for 30000. Auction
I bought a Deere 310j
Nice machine doc. I've been running the shit out of it. If I'd known I was bidding against you I wouldn't have ran it up so high.
😂 that’s the best yet!!! Hope you enjoy that machine!
That's why I stopped bidding, just not sure about it.
@@Digginok any idea why the county would get rid of a machine that only has 1000 hours? I know some municipalities get rid of stuff based on hours and some get rid of stuff based on the year model. I figure it's the latter or theres something bad wrong with that machine and they didnt want to fix it.
Funny thing, I talked to the commissioner, he said they got a miniex. So they just don’t use it.
Hey man, great videos, was wondering how difficult it was starting out as an owner/operator and how hard it is to find work and maintain
I still struggle from time to time to keep enough work, but a lot of that has to do with my location.
Thought i saw some mountains on your drive, but my mistake, just ant hills, lol. Probably be harder getting volvo parts. Idk. Lol👍😀
Yeah mostly ant hills!
I wouldnt haul that thing home if ya gave it to me! Get ya a B95B up to 2011' that's the last of the tier3 models without the onboard bake crap! Lots of them on machinery trader.com
That’s great advice I really like my b95!
You dont want a ex county machine from where I'm at. Or surrounding area. LoL
This wasn’t used much, would have been a nice machine I think.
Hi Frank glad you didn't buy that digger I would like to see you get one with a 4in1 bucket it would be great to see you performing with one of them on your channel I enjoy the view keep them coming 😁
Was everyone else driving slow that day? It looked like you passed everyone on the highway.
Well maybe. I did get passed by a couple.
Seemed to be a well built machine, but did look to have more than a couple of leaks! Thanks for watching!
Sorry it didn't work out for you... 😔
It’s all good, I still have a good machine and no payment!
I live by motto. Its better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
wow equipment is alot cheaper out there then in the northeast.
Scruffy 61 me and B are doing alright!
I like that valvo but not that much lol
That was very informative and while I think that probably would have been a very good deal, the way you were being inched up $1K at a time or so, who knows how far out of control that might have gotten? The right one is out there and with a good spotter looking out for you something will turn up. One thing's for sure, you'd have had a load of maintenance to do if you had won the bid. I like tdej80's comment about 10 more coming along right afterwards if you had won. That's for sure!
Hard to step Down from the New Holland alright
David Johnson yeah, I know the New Holland pretty well, not sure what to expect from another brand.
Next time you think about joyriding in someone else’s equipment give us a heads up first so we can be prepared to come bail you out 😂
That’s not a bad idea!!! Thanks! 😂
Samsung makes Volvos excavator . Good machines I have a JCB 214 love it.
Hydrema backhoes are in Sweden and Akkerman bullet proof machine s not in USA.
Volvo make awesome Farm tractors not sold here either. Not sure why?
Fermec makes Terex good simple machines.
mitzvos Golem hydrema is a danish make and it is no doubt one of the best makes out there
Yep, just keep makin $$$$ with the NH, and you got the laugh of the day for getting yelled at LOL!!!!!!
Kind of odd for the county to get rid off something like that. County here in Muskogee, they keep their stuff until it absolutely falls apart lol That is a nice vovlo.
They said it hasn’t gotten used much since they bought a mini excavator. But who knows it could be a problem machine too.
Give me your buyers number the next time. I’ll bid for ya 👍
I bet you would!
Next time Sir next time
Maybe a CAT or John Deer
Tuff F350 maybe! We will see!
We have at work what a pile of junk it broke most of time !
Probably good I didn’t get it then!
Don't know anything about Volvo. We've had 4 Cases sence 1980. 580D, K, SL, and SM
Yeah that's one reason I didn't bid too much, I'm a bit uncertain what to expect.
