Hendrix didn't just play the guitar, he played WITH it. An innovative genius.
Hendrix was a total badass...anyone who says different is truly clueless.
there is iron in your words...

Did you see Marty Friedman's Comments about Jimi? Marty is a great guitar player but a weird person. I would put him in the clueless category or jealous he never reached Jimi's Status.

Once Jimi gets inside your head, he's with you for life . This is not backstage, this is in his Brook street flat ( apartment ) sitting on his bed .
I’m glad he’s been in my mind for 51 years
Absolutely
Even my kids love jimi
Jimi never got into my head. Jimi is and always will be dead for life. "Jimi Hendrix Sucks" Jimi didn't even play his chords right.

Actually, Jimi, with Mitch, made a 40 minute tape of Jimi trying out some of his new songs he intended to play in 1970. The recording as done by Hendrix, on his Sony reel-to-reel tape deck, First week of Feb, 1970. He is on acoustic guitar, and sounds awesome!
@@patrickciacco1083 😄😄
The very first guitarist to basically weaponize the instrument. Had the privilege of seeing him live a couple times back in Rocks Classic Era.
Nothing will ever match the sheer sonic assault of a Fender Strat amplified by a brace of Marshall Stacks. Magic…
Bollocks, stop lying
I guess you might have never heard Grady Martin playing behind Johnny Burnette on the 1956 Nashville rockabilly sessions...
Talk about "weaponized", just give a listen to "Train Kept a'Rollin'. "
That's about as "Punk" as it got until the Sex Pistols finally rolled around.
But then again, there were a lot of real Innovators in the old days.
Jimi didn't simply play the guitar, he played the sound system. He was a talented acoustic player, but his signature sound was based on how much air he pushed.
He was loud but didn't NEED to be. That's the point 👍
You didn’t listen to the example, did you?
Hendrix Sucks!
The only guitar player who ever made my hair stand on end.
I’m sure he wasn’t even thinking of Elvis - it’s Big Mama Thorton’s song.
That was my thought, he knew earlier versions. 7:27

It's a Jerry Leibler song he wrote it

Not really... Picasso was extremely sexist and women beater who was only good with oil painting rather than the minimalistic abstract works that made him famous. Most of the famous painters are scammers who had rich friends or politicians rather than true talent.
I was a Picasso fan while I was a Hendrix fan, and remember being in High School art class ('73)when news of his death was announced on radio. his painting 'Guernica', which depicted the madness of war in France, I thought, was equal to 'Machine Gun' by Jimi .truly an electric guitar masterpeice, for a new war. @@markmcallan973maybe in full. But the genius is evident for a profane too.
Not only.
So i don't appreciate the guy i've idolised all my life. Such an elitist and pompous comment!
Many of Jimi's fans don't play guitar, but they certainly appreciate his talent, which is blatantly obvious.
if you have seen this video, Jimi is playing this acoustic upside down! if you watch closely you can tell that his strum originates from the bottom up. and his lead lines are on the top strings, like eric gales. Jimi was known for his ability to play upside down and backwards. there is another video of him with the stones backstage doing the same thing.
Mmm, I know that he often times did actually play it upside down a la Elizabeth Cotten. There are many accounts of him doing just that. But in this particular clip I’m not sure he was. In the beginning when he’s tuning up it seems like he picks a few strings from top to bottom and that they’re getting higher with each string.
It sounds similar to Robert Johnson and that is not a bad thing.😊
@@runedahl1477 got that right!
I first heard jimi play when i was 12 and even then i new he was different. His music still knocks me out now. He was the man that made me want to play myself, he really was/is far out!
I play guitar and people often ask me whos the greatest. It seems such a cop out to say "well Jimi" but he had it all, great guitar, front man ,voice and endless songs all amazing so there the answer is JIMI.M.HENDRIX.
Listen to Jimi play his acoustic rendition of "Hear My Train A-Comin'" for another idea of what he really sounded like.
People always focus on Jimi's playing, and with good reason. But let's not forget, he was a fantastic songwriter, singer, and showman. Most importantly, Jimi was a messenger spreading the message of Love.
That's a great comment w/ incredible timing. Wait until you see the vid I upload later today!
Jimi Hendrix was phenomenal. he must be the most influential guitarist ever. And imo Fender have been surfing on his wave for years.
Hendrix, my hero
Such an amazing talent.
I don’t think he was thinking about any of that stuff. I think he was just musically gifted and enjoying his life around that
As a Child of the 60s who followed all the greats, there is no doubt in my mind that if he had lived a normal life span Jimi would have went into Jazz and given the genre a monster push. His premature death closed the doors on what might have been and the net loss cannot be measured.
He once said that he would have liked to dabble with classical/ ochestral type arrangement later on.What a legend ! What would the music world have been without him !
Well, Miles Davis himself, agreed with you!
@@The-Contractor This is one of the things that tortured Jimi. His managers and label would not allow him to explore the boundaries of Jazz. He tried and his lable and management threatened to sue him for breach of contract. Many great bands have had the same issue to the point they just dissolve.
He was playing this sitting on a bed in his London Flat with 2 girls and another guy…. Very bad ass guitar player
Hendrix was a trailblazer. His singing ability is under-estimated.He was a unique vocalist too.
He is doing a Howlin wolf version, and Chester Burnett. I love this, I played blues in coffee houses in the 70s

That's one of the best acoustic guitar ever played
Jimi had an Elevated Mind to say the least.
Man I love Hendrix. Hearing that backstage audio, such great rhythm and timing. Total badass and gets my vote for the GOAT of electric guitar. It hard for us to understand now how huge he was in particular and how popular electric guitar was at that time. 60s and 70s were a special time for guitar rock.
There's a famous video of Jimi in 1967 with a 12 string Zemaitis acoustic guitar and It's one of his most beautiful renditions of "Hear my train comin'".
Nobody will ever have the impact Jimi had on guitar and music in general!.
The rhythm playing here seems similar to the opening of his version of killing floor! I love listening to this style
That’s what he was born to do. He was a monster at playing guitar becoming one with the guitar making it do his will
And vice-versa!
He also had a strong rhythmic sense in his playing
also electric he loved bass 🔊

One of the GOAT guitar players. There is a long list of really great guitar players. Personally I can’t put one above the other. Whoever I’m listening to at the moment is the GOAT.
You are the first one who's gotten it right. How many studio musicians or hired guns like Jason Hook are just shredding the guitar. And hot women Nita Strauss
Yup. About frikkin' time. Thank you MusicGuru.
Anyone who wants to hear Hendrix fooling around on the guitar should listen to Captain Coconut on the Crash Landing album 👽
I'm going to do that now!
Jimmy had a way of getting going. He would play the same rhythm lick for three minutes until he started hearing it backwards. Then he listened as long as he could. He said doing the same thing in repetition bores your mind. Your mind looks for things in it even turns it around backwards.
In Band of Gypsies especially listen to Who Knows and Machine Gun, the melodic phrasing that Jimi does is what makes him a complete and great guitarist, You just immerse yourself in those melodies and sounds that he makes, he is at his highest point of creativity,
There are very good guitarists but I am sure that any professional guitarist will say that it is impressive. so you don't get your coffee. 😃
Great guitar players can make any TURD guitar sound good as long as it holds tune. It's good preparation to play without effects before recording to tidy things up. The first time I learned anything on a bass was for a recording. I was an experienced guitar player and had no problem picking up the slap bass tune, but I had to re-learn it because I was slapping the pickup too, causing the recording to clip. Delays at the studio can be costly and you don't want to be that guy.
Never has anyone been so at one with the guitar.
He had serious rhythm
Blue gels🔷+ One Rainy Wish= Magic....
as a huge fan and guitar player I can officially confirm that is James Marshall Hendrix(Jimi Hendrix) not even 5 seconds into his playing I can tell because of his signature licks and choice of notes with bends etc💯✌🏿as far as the best player comment goes even he said in an interview when asked I believe it was the dick cavette show he said a class comment like "no one is the best or greatest"as he looks at it as an extension of his voice like a lot of the greats say👍🏻him page & srv is what inspired me many moons ago💯🎸🎶🤣
Every person brings to an instrument or vocal performance, their entire soul's individuality and their specific traits. One need not be viewed as a Master of anything and still can uplift an entire industry by their unique abilities.
@@katoooq1 Very well spoken. Every player lends his voice to his instrument.
This ain’t back stage, I’m sure I’ve seen a video of this, it’s in the bedroom of his flat in London
Correct!
Jimi had improvisational skills comparable with Coltrane, his rhythm playing is unsurpassed IMHO.
I don't have to mention his utter mastery of solo/lead playing.
He's the greatest musician of the past 100 years, he had everything, songwriting, composition, lyricist and his stage craft is phenomenal.
He was also a beautiful humble soul.
There will never be anyone ever again who has had the impact that Jimi has had on music.
He is sorely missed!.
ABSOLUTELY !!! TY !
Appreciate you sharing these memories and insights.
Not disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve always been fascinated by the difference between the Hendrix’s (relatively) tight sounding studio recordings and the, often very loose sounding, playing on display in the handful of TH-cam videos out there. I’m guessing the guitar parts on Those studio tracks were highly composed and rehearsed (not a bad thing, obviously). Those guitar parts have become a part of the essential electric guitar cannon. Nearly every one of them continues to amaze me fill me with deeper appreciation for both the musicality and musicianship of Hendrix. Just imagine if he didn’t die so young.
Great comment. I've got a video about what Jimi might have done if he lived in the archives, you might find it interesting.
Hendrix was the greatest guitarist of the 20th Century .. He was an innovator, much like Les Paul. Things he did in the Studio inspired some of the earliest guitar effects.
Just listen to All Along The Watchtower and tell me who can play the solo as awesome as he did now??
Hendrix has been inspiration to thousands of guitarist over the years!
I would never say Hendrix was the G.O.A.T. however, he would still be in my top 5..
Saw him live in Norman Oklahoma
May 8th 1970. He played for 2 sold out shows at the old Sooner Fieldhouse.. The backup Band was Bloodrock....
One of my best memories as a teenager..
My first 3 concerts were 1. Steppenwolf 2. Jimi Hendrix
3. Led Zeppelin
Hendrix was a Spiritual Phenomenon! Listen to The Whole "Band Of Gypsy's" Album ( Both Sides) and "Hear My Train Coming" ( Live at Berkely) Jimi was telling a Story with his Guitar and Voice.😮

There was an official cd release in 2000 called 'Morning Symphony Ideas' that included a near 20 minute recording of Jimi playing by himself at home. The track is called Scorpio Woman. Fascinating stuff and sounds better than this. Theres also solo guitar stuff on the 'West Coast Seattle Boy' box set. Worth tracking down.
Yes the jam with Mitch is awesome too guitar n drums Great sound
Scorpio Woman, was recorded by Jimi, during his final visit to Hawaii. Melinda Merriwether was his object of desire--for a few days.
Jimi had his own timing and the most unique style of playing that he and only he could put across in a way that left you in no doubt that no one at the time even came close to in terms of his musical ability on the guitar, simply blows one away.try to imagine what he would be doing today and just the thought of it on its own is to surreal to wrap your head around, and so as anyone knows who is a Hendrix fan we must suffice ourselves with what he left behind because he was so far ahead of everyone else of that era that if around today he would probably be just as far ahead of any of todays best rock guitarists and it would no doubt be still in his own unique style which is what sets him apart from the best of the best.God bless you Jimi Hendrix truly a one off.
He is the master but this clip certainly sounds like an electric at low volume ,I have heard him play the acoustic and it’s amazing
Great video!
Thanks! 😎
He plays an acoustic version of 1983 that is simply mind-blowing.
Simply the best ever
Hendrix was alien , how you do just write songs he did like little wing for example, his arrangements were epic and rhythmic lead playing were unheard of
I loved Jimi, he was a great player. I bought a Strat because of Jimi (but I still like and prefer an SG a little more ). I saw Jimi twice and was very very impressed, but like anyone else, he made mistakes and appeared to be stoned.
Technology changed everything about playing most instruments. Later there was VanHalen, Rhoads, etc, too many to even begin to name and all of them were great. There are a lot of "Guitar heroes" and "Legends" now, and with AI coming into it's own, music will be totally changed forever....Anyone can sound like anyone using AI.
I was 14 when Jimi died, and of course I was sad about it. Very sad.
RIP, Jimi, we lost a great musician in Sept of 1970. But you live on, in our hearts and our turntables.....
I have no idea how one would judge who is "the best guitar player of all time." But without question Jimi was the most innovative guitar player of all time.
There is no such thing as the best guitar player! Maybe best in a STYLE. But we are blessed with many GREATS. Jimi was one of the greats. I know he surely moves me.

He's as versatile as they come.

I've been a fan of Jimi Hendrix since I was 6 years old and and in the 1st grade. Thanks to my older brother. I almost got to see him when he was touring with the Monkey's. My parents parents said I was too young but I got a, "life life size poster of HENDRIX." My brother said he blew the Monkey's off the stage and people were leaving when they came on because everyone was there to see the GREATEST EVER JIMI HENDRIX!

Once I Hurd he carried a guitar everywhere that’s when I knew
Hendrix used single channel amp, and only 3 or 4 pedals, fairly clean tone .
One things for sure and is totally indisputable ….that there will never ever be another ….how could there be
Once you feel the Jimi kundalini you instantly become enchanted if you have any kind of affinity for he guitar
I was told by my guitar instructor long ago, that " if you can't play it clean, then you can't play it with distortion. Jimmy could give you ten different versions of this song and each one would be great.
That's good guitar advice!
Master.
I wonder when Australian radio is ever going to play him on the radio , i listen to different stations and ive never heard him on them for the last 50 yrs .
I steeped myself in blues in 1969 when my brilliant guitarist friend Marc Modica loaned me an acoustic Harmony f-hole-archtop guitar. From there my guitar playing expanded into, well, everything. I saw Jimi in 1970, L.A. Forum (in YT). Note: If you play blues you call it "blues", NOT "the blues", as in "I play blues", which is a powerful statement.
Brilliant guitarist who’s reputation is well deserved!!!
I buy you a coffee with Jimmy's blessings.

I love Jimi Hendrix's playing but there's no such thing as the "greatest guitarist" ! There's too many different styles ! I like Jimi for his song writing and ability to creatively convey concepts using just a guitar ..He sounded great in this clip and have another level of respect ... But there's so many styles that I don't think there's no one guy who I'd say is the absolute greatest ..
There's been criticism about how screwed up his life was that is BS. He was a very happy person and his OD was an accident by people around him saying sleeping pills would help him relax. His music will last forever!

What's the difference between me watching Hendrix, and I not being able to replicate him, verses me doing a magic trick in front of him, and he can't replicate me? It's the same thing.
Jimi was a great guitarist and feed back artist he created a new soud for a new generation. His use of double stops created a new sound over a Marshall stack. Hound dog wasn't an Elvis song it belongs to Jerry Libler the artist who wrote it. Much like Hey Joe isn't a Hendrix song. It was a country song out of the Delta. As far as the greatest guitarist? I urge you to listen to some hired guns, the people who make bands famous and sound great. As far as musicians go there are greats all over the world. Too many to list. I love Jimi and play his music every time I pick up one of my guitars. Please give the movie Hired Guns a view and it will enlighten you to what greatness is. God bless young brother.
