Where would the first class railroads be without the shortline railroads? I'll bet a lot more track would have been torn up and lots of business and jobs lost for good. Thumbs up to all the short lines in Canada and the USA!!

What were the main industries served on this line? Always thought about making a trackplan for this operation

Maybe I'm showing my age, but I thought DL&W was the DELAWARE LACAWANNA & WESTERN {Route of the Phoebe Snow/Anthracite road). You know there were Conrail Cars sublettered NYC, PRR etc. I guess as explained to me by a railroader friend who worked for the PC, it had something to do with CR being bought out and there were provisions for some rolling stock to be returned to the PRR or NYC paper railroad.

The owner of Genesee Valley Transportation is a big Lackawanna fan. He named one of his shortlines the Depew Lancaster and Western so it would have the same initials. Reporting marks are DLWR so there is no conflict with any equipment lettered DL&W.

As to the NYC/PRR thing, when they split Conrail, they couldn't let all the equipment lettered the way it was. So NS sublettered all its CR locos PRR. CSX changed the reporting marks on all its CR cars to NYC. As far as I know there were no PRR cars on NS or NYC locos on CSX re stenciled.
