The magazine, Country Life, has been a fixture on the other side of the channel for decades. I wonder if Vie à la Campagne was modeled on the British magazine.

I can not believe how different the interiors look now, compared to the original interiors. What a shame that the castles interior beauty was basically destroyed. I think it would look fabulous to put fake doors back in the room rather than windows.

How horrible to have stripped out all those beautiful features throughout the chateau. Good luck with the restoration.

You stated one of the most important things when doing historical restoration. It is not necessary to try to duplicate( exactly)what was. I can't believe you have publications as a reference. I agree. It is priceless.

It seems immoral to strip the beauty from a building. Not only does it ensure the value drops, it ensures people won't care as much about it. I'm glad you have come along and DO care! Like you, it will stand tall and beautiful again!

    • @meyou3566
      @meyou3566 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It was probably stripped so that the owners could have funds to maintain the building, such as things like replacing the roof which for chateaus can cost more than the entire value of the property.

A bittersweet video that brings out strong emotions of sadness for the stripping of such beautiful and valuable furnishings and hardware but also the sheer joy and bonne chance of having so many extraordinary photos documenting the original architectural features, period furniture and artwork. It is a long and difficult task to take on the restoration but I'm sure you will find it to be a very rewarding adventure and a great source of pride personally as well as a monumentally important gift to the national heritage of France.

Tanto contenta di vedere Lei, anima nobile e perseverante.
    La stimo moltissimo ❤

How fun to have old pictures of your chateau! It's so sad that so much was lost but it's almost like you have a time machine in those magazines and catalogs. One of my favorite shows was called "If Walls Could Talk". It was set in the USA and talked about old houses (Much younger houses than in Europe, of corse)and the artifacts and things the current owners had discovered about their history. It was so fun.

The magazines are a wonderful find 0:09 to see the chateau before items were sold. They provide an historical element for restoration. The salon furniture is exquisite and exemplify the affluence on display during that time period. To make a more inviting room, I like to mix a contemporary quality formal sofa with 18th century chairs that compliment each other. You have exquisite taste and believe that you will decorate impeccably while providing an inviting environment. I enjoyed the video. Take care and Bonne Annee. Ralph Rocchiccioli

Hello, this video is excellent. It is great that you have the ‘road maps’ from the auction catalogue and the two magazines. Having pictures of the wood paneling is important as is the furniture and art. What was the subject matter of the very large paintings? I would love to know. This is a very exciting journey that you are taking us on, as for those of us who appreciate the history and quality of the work in the past, now get to see it coming to life once again. Thank you so much. Mrs. Gibson, from Uzès

What a wonderful discovery, these old magazines! Recently I watched a docu about the construction of La Sagrada Familia on ARTE TV. They used 3D technique to be able to visualize the workshop of Gaudi from old photographs in order to understand his models and plans, since they got lost in a fire. Maybe you could use that technique with these photos as well for the restauration of the lost interiors of your chateau. Wishing you all the best for your plans in 2024!
