The winter garden is exquisite! You have very nice taste! Congratulations, You are doing a wonderful job of restoring the chateau and her out buildings.
Yes, indeed, it is exquisite. The only thing I would add, however, is COLOR! One can accomplish that with jewel-tone rich fabrics or showy flowers. Winter can be cold, dark, and long and indoor flowers can bring a pop of color, joy, and hope in the bleak mid-winter. The gardener is familiar with "forcing bulbs" no doubt. My favorite indoor bulbs are Hyacinths which come in bright pinks and purple/violet & various other colors, and also smell wonderful. Red or deep pink & white variegated Amaryllis is lovely for Christmas, and yellow & white daffodils are always cheerful & make me think of sunshine (I think Europeans call them Narcissus). I think one can force most Lillys (my favorite are the pink & white Tiger Lillys), but I'm not sure about Tulips. When they're spent they can all be planted in the ground in spring. These, or other bright flowers would look lovely in their little glass bulb-vases used for forcing... or placed/nested in a long narrow brass container on the dining room table as a perfect centerpiece. A glass-top dining table would open up the space a lot and make the room more spacious-looking. Maybe a few cane chairs made in the Orient (antiques?) would complement the tableware/cutlery. Maybe a couple of bright pink (or his favorite shade) Rose bushes trained to be "trees" would add some color too and a more subtle scent to the room. Large-bloom orchids come in every color too (purple and pink-violet are my favorite), African violets are easy, pink Cyclamen is lovely, and Desert-Rose too. Red Anthurium looks tropical but is also perfect for Christmas, as is red Gloxinia. Indoor Azaeleas are gorgeous with dense blossoms and come in many colors. Jasmine smells lovely. Chrysanthemums/Mums and Begonias and Pansies are cold-hardy and would do well on the window sills... as would the herb Rosemary which would make the room smell lovely and fresh and could be used for culinary uses. Perhaps his gardener already has some of these and other ideas... but that is just the shortlist! 😊☺😂😘
Wonderful visit and video. This is a magical place. The first time I encountered Sabre's bamboo table cutlery was at a dinner in late 1972 in San Francisco. The host--who would become a life long friend, was the ultimate in chic and style. A tall rugged man 14 years my senior, he cut quite a path thru the San Francisco social scene and art world and later moved to Beverly Hills where he flourished in the design and architectural restoration community. Ironically, just last night I learned he passed away at the stylish age of 85. It warmed my heart to see that tradition carried forward by you. Merci!
I can only imagine the fun you are having sourcing the delights for your winter garden. The result is magnificent . I would not change one thing, I love it all.
Thank you for including us in your remarkable project. Calamondin orange is a prolific producer of tiny fruit used for juice, syrup and preserves and has a wonderful scent as do Meyer lemon.
Everything looks beautiful. I hope you enjoy it this Winter. Mabey you could put a Christmas tree in there this holiday season, that would look really pretty. I am looking forward to more of your videos. Jeff❤
Can’t wait to see all the final finishes. The table linens with place settings, along with any additional books and other pops of color to bring it all to final living space for your first garden party. Congrats.
Beautiful ! Very Charming space. The trellis work on the walls is a wonderful green color. A Great space for a party or a dinner party. Your planters at entrance would look good each with a large boxwood in a round shape. You continue to show your excellent sense of design and decor. Thanks for your videos!
I love your enthusiasm and your attention to detail, and remember you can never please everyone as long as you enjoy what you do That’s the most important thing.
Very interesting video. Nice to meet you Dan. Learned alot about those plants 🪴. Everything looks beautiful. Impeccable taste!! Yes, keep the head off the statue. Looks more mysterious..
Or actually get a Venus de Milo or some other Greek goddess for the Orangery/Garden House and put the statue of Mary (with her head intact) in the chapel... I think he has a chapel... or perhaps that is another chateau I'm thinking of. After all, she is a one-of-a-kind priceless artifact of the Medieval French period. It would be a shame to 'de-face' her! 🤔
Just that I bought it without head, and though it was not a religious statue. and like it like that. , and the antic shop called me 1 month later To tell me they found a head that might be my sculpture one ! But meanwhile I git used to the beheaded one. And I didn’t want any religious sign in the first place. So I only decided not to fix it 😉
So much to take in and enjoy in this video. Your keen attention to every detail is impressive, starting with the height of the laurels in the caisses à orangers. Yes, lower height of the laurels will give a more pleasing scale to accent the façade. Further thoughts: On the stone buffet table top perhaps consider placing a small statue of Cupid or Bacchus to bring in a playful yet understated focal point amidst the greenery. On the dining table itself, with your choice of the tablecloth, add a low, round, glazed pot with low growing, flowering plants for a discreet touch of color. I love the bamboo cutlery. To “warm” the fireplace, use wood or realistic faux logs to bring up thoughts of a cozy fireside setting. The nearby black wrought iron bench will be perfect with its new, inviting cushion and spot of color. For the Mathieu Lustrerie pair of extraordinary chairs you might consider matching seat cushions for reading and teatime comfort. There you see, nothing too overwhelming in my modest suggestions! Certainly not least, I really enjoyed Daan’s detailed chat about the various greenery and soon to flower plants.
You have such potential to create your own weekly show. You have all the qualities necessary , passion , curiosity, the way you articulate and interaction with the audience, the attention to detail… each thing you touch and describe is like talking about delicious decadent food. And so.. you can make lots of money and renovate this estate to an archeological masterpiece. 🙏🎉🎉🙏. I could go on and on but I’ll end with, your channel takes me away from the awful state of our world
When you buy plants in the colder season, they react to the temperature difference between the store and outside. Make sure you cover them with a towel or bag on the way to the car and to the house. It helps prevent them going into shock.
Thank you for the update! I truly enjoyed learning about the plants and their containers. I look forward to hearing about the progress of the beautiful orchids and the orange tree, too.
Your Winter Garden will bring you and your friends a tremendous amount of continuous joy! It is very beautiful, well done to you, Daan and all that has had a hand in its creation.
I’ve said it before , you have an Exceptional eye for detail. Your guests will be so fortunate to have you as host . And thank you for giving us links for the items you purchased ; everything was perfect.
Monsieur Le Docteur, C'est magnifique! It is such a pleasure to see the beautiful orangerie you are creating... such a lovely mix of old and new... traditional and "nouvelle-moderne"... your instincts and thise of Monsieur Daan are impeccable... so glad to see how you are using the great stone table against the wall. It looks as lovely snd interesting as I thought it would... one suggestion: consider turning the fabulous chairs in front of the fireplace so that they flank the table on either side, so that when one observes the scene from the vantage if the center of the room the fireplace will be a focal behind the table snd between the backs if thise fantastical chairs. Also, I love the effect of the "headless statue". Any woman should be delighted to lose her head in such a beautiful oragerie! With great delight and sincere regard for your project and your generisity in sharing it with us, I remain sincerely yours truly... G
Encore bravo.
The Winter Garden room is magnifique! I really like the metal bench. I agree a new fabric for the cushion would look more exquisite. I also like the marble table which has multi purpose. Your plants are so lush and you have many different types. I wouldn't change any of your ideas except for the Virgin Mother's head. I would find a way to re-attach her head to the body. Maybe with a cement mix. I am in the Legion of Mary and I have a special affection for Her. Thank you
Exactly!! It is disrespectful to The Virgin Mary who made so many appearances in France, Portugal & all throughout Europe! He should get an antique Greek or Roman statue to fulfill his desire for a "headless goddess"... maybe a Venus de Milo or some other Greek goddess for the Orangery/Garden House and put the statue of Mary (with her head intact) in the chapel... I think he has a chapel... or perhaps that is another chateau I'm thinking of. After all, she is a one-of-a-kind priceless artifact of the Medieval French period. It would be a shame to 'de-face' her! 🤔
I really like this man who purchased the Virgin Mary statue in the first place. I believe he said the statue came to him damaged. I do not think he means to be disrespectful. I think he merely showed us that it is there for now and setting the head aside is better than trying to place it back on without special consideration.
Exact ! Didn’t mean to be disrespectful of course I bought it as a « 17th century stone statue » And 1 month later I received a call from the antic shop saying they found a head that might be from the sculpture. So as I didn’t want religious sign, I decided to keep the statue destiny and not to repair it. 😊
Thank you for responding. I will rewatch your video too. I understand now that you bought the statue that way and did not know who it was, just a statue when you bought it. I am assuming the head doesn't fit properly. Well, there are famous statues that are missing parts. I just read that many are missing their noses, some arms etc. Some are still very famous. 😊@@ChateaudeDampierre
Anthony it looks great, your plant guy is passionate about the plants & it shows! That vanilla plant would never get pods at my home to much labor, haha! Cheers Kirk

It's beautiful. Lovely. Understated buy classy and so relaxing. Great choices. Love your slacks with the shoes. Be careful not to overwork yourself--holidays are just around the corner.
You have such a passion to achieve perfection. May I suggest some large stag and elk horn ferns mounted on natural tree slabs and hung on side walls in corners, also some large fern hanging baskets. variegated ficus, the more natural light they receive, the more colour they produce. If you don’t mind me saying, that a velvet table cloth may look to heavy and formal in that room and for your cutlery, my thought would be something fresh and light weight with the same green as in your chair upholstery, or even the same fabric if it’s is light weight, washable and better still none iron easy care. Congratulations on your beautiful garden room. From Australia
I am completely creeped out in the nicest sort of way. Just yesterday, I thought that we hadn’t seen a new vlog from Chateau Dampierre for a while and here it is! I know we are all enjoying the progress you are making and the wonderful attention to detail that you are bringing to the project. The lovely fern fabric you used on the one chair you did yourself should dictate the rest of the fabrics you use in the room. Similar in theme but different fabrics would be perfect. What a wonderful spot to which to retreat in the winter months but, of course, the summer months as well. We are all, I am sure, anxious to see further progress on the gatehouse and main house. Living Vicariously through your decorating journey.
I have a pillow with a tropical/palm tree theme with a cute monkey holding an umbrella sitting in the tree as well as a spotted leopard and a peacock and palm fronds and dragonflies buzzing about. I wish he could see it. It evokes the East India British decor era.
Every finished project you show us gets more and more beautiful . I can only imagine what the finished chateau will look like. You definitely have a eye for details . Best of luck on future projects !
Lovely space! I would be tempted to add maybe one overstuffed chair or maybe a couple more cushions for the Italian bench. The lines of that bench are very sleek and elegant. Beautiful plant selections, I hope they flourish!
You can’t imagine how happy I’m to have followed your channel… it’s very very interesting to know how genius people were … and how genius you are as well … beautiful… I have no words how beautiful your illustration is … thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Such lovely and very intelligent choices for the plants in the Winter Garden! The aroma in this lovely garden, will be most fragrant, and yet not overdone. So nice when having a luncheon or just Tea, Coffee or other refreshments of other types, Thank you for sharing and love seeing it written in English as well and spoken in this way, Most everyone does understand this, and in can attract so many more viewers even, I feel this way too! So much has been done already with your great renovation, and this truly will be everything you ever wanted your Chateau to be in the end! I say this as it seems the longer you live anyplace the more you consider needs to be done and so it will continue forever, but once the worse is done, all goes much better! Then the fun touches, can be added. Enjoy it with your family, loved ones and all guests for many, many years! I am so glad and thankful, to be part of it in this way, at least!
You need an antique garden table and chairs. They are white metal tables with glass top. Most fitting for that room. The furniture in there now can be used elsewhere once you find a garden table.
10:53 The cutlery was a beautiful choice. It adds whimsy to the table and keeps with the garden/plant theme of the room. I also love the idea of adding the smaller plants to the middle of the table. That will break up the white just as the lattice work breaks up the white on the walls. Love all the beautiful pots and variety of plants. Can’t wait to see the vanilla plant!! How exciting!
Just put a whole lot of large different size candles in the fire place - you can even light them when using the room and mild for the plants and look beautiful !

The winter garden looks stunning. Love all the plants and I can't wait to see the progress with the gorgeous orchids. Thank you so much for sharing.
Beautiful design choices!
you and your partner , have good ideas in design ,your little cottage is perfect ,.and I love the headless lady.
Looks beautiful!
Every finished project you show us gets more and more beautiful . I can only imagine what the finished chateau will look like. You definitely have a eye for details . Best of luck on future projects !
Looks perfect just the way it is 😀
Hermoso! Aprecio tu talento y buen gusto. Saludos desde Texas. Gracias por compartir tu adorable castillo ❤
Lovely space! I would be tempted to add maybe one overstuffed chair or maybe a couple more cushions for the Italian bench. The lines of that bench are very sleek and elegant. Beautiful plant selections, I hope they flourish!
BEST WISHES TO YOU
You can’t imagine how happy I’m to have followed your channel… it’s very very interesting to know how genius people were … and how genius you are as well … beautiful… I have no words how beautiful your illustration is … thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Just lovely! It is a perfect homage to Versailles
Lovely!!!
Wonderful job!🎉
Such lovely and very intelligent choices for the plants in the Winter Garden! The aroma in this lovely garden, will be most fragrant, and yet not overdone. So nice when having a luncheon or just Tea, Coffee or other refreshments of other types,
Thank you for sharing and love seeing it written in English as well and spoken in this way,
Most everyone does understand this, and in can attract so many more viewers even, I feel this way too!
Ficou absolutamente lindo e aconchegante. Obrigada por dividir conosco
I have been waiting for this so exciting!
Just put a whole lot of large different size candles in the fire place - you can even light them when using the room and mild for the plants and look beautiful !
You two are making a wonderful home! I am enjoying watching the progress.
Smashed the like button. Remember no signing contracts the SAME DAY as the meeting initially. Are you going to have a Holiday Trim a Home?
Well lovely done. I love that metal palm tree!
Turn the small table 90° around so both sitters can share the same vision from the ambient and receive the same amount of heat from the fireplace.
I actually prefer the statue without the head. Everything is gorgeous and fancy! Thank you for posting.
It's unbelievably beautiful and astounding amount of work and care. Thank you for doing this and demonstrating it to us!
