My mom passed a couple years back and I find myself looking up these recipes I grew up on. And your mom's page is always popping up. God love them. They were a different, better people.
I love watching her cook. I’m somehow tuned into her, where I can experience the feel of the household as she’s cooking lunch for her and Mr. Bucky. Hard to put into words what I’m trying to say. God rest their souls.
I just love this women... I just found her about Three weeks ago and fell in love with this channel. I just found out a few days ago that she died. I was crushed, but she left a lot of videos to watch. I really look forward to meeting her and Bucky in Heaven. She is a special Angel! ♥️😢
Just watching some of her videos today remembering her. I don’t comment often but I have been watching her channel for about 3 years now. She has taught me a lot. Not just her wonderful recipes but about life in general. What a wonderful lady your mother was. Thank you so much for keeping her channel going and I look forward to you posting new ones. I watched the video you posted and it brought me to tears. Renee said on her channel that you would be posting some time this week. Thank you so much.
Just did some barbecue ribs and I'm fixing to use this recipe for my homemade scalloped potatoes tonight I sure miss you Ms Phyllis. I'm really glad that your son left all your cooking videos up because you're easy pie crust is unbelievably good and my boys and I use your recipe all the time just wanted your son to know and wanted to say thank you to him for leaving the recipes up from a good old country boy from South Alabama God bless American troops
The next time I make scalloped potatoes I am making them this way! You have more ways to fix a dish than 'Carter's has pills', as the old timers around here say. You sure are a blessing.😇
Deb from Idaho Miss Phyllis, I love how you make your meals all look so special, napkins folded and silverware placed. Always a good ratio of vegetables, meats, breads, starches. I have learned so much from you. Am going to buy a blender and start on the smoothies when I can afford it!! I am 63 and handicapped retired.
You slice potatoes just like my mama did. She really never cut herself either. She just loved those small knives. It made me smile watching you cut that way. My mama went to be with Jesus 8 months ago. Nice memories. Your recipe looks yummy and easy. Can't wait to try it. Thanks Ms Phyllis. Love from Texas.
Fabulous shortcut Phyllis. I used to peel and thinly slice a 5-lb. bag of potatoes and a large onion by hand and make a white sauce for my scalloped potato casserole. I no longer cook for a crowd, your recipe is perfect. Thanks.
I slice in the hand like you do, but I’ve been cooking for 6 decades. I usually bake my scalloped potatoes in the oven, but this is a brilliant way to do it, especially in hot weather like we’ve had lately in Iowa. I have a toaster oven in the garage so I can keep the heat out of our house. Thanks for making these videos. I always “thumbs up” and often comment. I’m hoping Mr. Bucky appreciates your good cooking. ❤️
Evaporated milk blended with the flour. Excellent idea. And cooking the potatoes first. I could make those. I first tasted scalloped potatoes when I was 15. (I came to Canada from England when I was 10 ) I was at a church supper and we were served scalloped potatoes. Well, talk about delicious. So I visited the house of the lady who had made them and she showed me step-by-step how to do it. But they always took so long to bake in the oven. Your method is brilliant. So quick. I'll be making them. Took me right back watching that video. Thank you.
I really enjoy watching you cook in your old school kitchen...it’s comforting! It’s sad the art of simple cooking and keeping a home life is being lost...your videos are helping perpetuate some of what is lost in today’s modern life and age of fast food as a staple for feeding the family. Thank you for sharing, Miss Phyllis 💚💙
I made the scalloped potatoes today. My husband absolutely LOVED them. I added some diced ham chunks, and it turned out great. Thank you so very much for all of your fantastic recipes. I look forward to trying more. 👍👍👍
Brilliant idea to boil the sliced potatoes first. I made some scalloped potatoes last weekend with yellow Finns and guryere cheese and while they were delicious, they also took an hour and a half to reach that yummy melting point of well-cooked potatoes blended with the cheese ingredients. Never thought to give them a fast cooking boost by boiling them first. Thank you, Miss Phyllis. We all surely do appreciate your great cooking tips!
Looks yummy! We had meat loaf today too! We actually had it for dinner last night with mashed potatoes & green beans & then tonight Mikey made fried potatoes & onions & corn & we ate more meatloaf. The rest we put in the freezer. Those potatoes look so good. I'm going to have to try them. Thank you for another awesome dish Miss Phyllis!
Thank you for this quick recipe! I plan to make this for my husband tomorrow .. I’m sure he will love it paired with meatloaf as well. Love all of your great ideas, tips and recipes 💜
talk about home made, this is what i been looking for and guess what?????? i have all the ingredients in my kitchen, pork chops and scalloped potatoes tonight .... Miss Phyllis sure knew how to cook. Thank You Miss Phyllis...
You are absolutely the best your videos are very calm you direct to the point and you do everything quickly you are the very best and your food is wonderful I’ve made the scallop potatoes the best I’ve ever had thank you thank you thank you and God bless u
My hubby loves scalloped potatoes and I don't make them very often in the summer because it heats up the house so much cuz the oven has to be on for so long. This is exactly the kind of recipe I needed! I'll surprise him tomorrow and I'll have a very happy hubby. Thank you!! 😊❤
I love adding baked ham in cubes or thick slices into my sliced potatoes, I generally use Idaho baking potatoes but I absolutely love Yukon Gold taters so I think I'll try the Ham with those tomorrow especially now that I saw this video. Thanks Phyllis, you're always making me hungry for some good but quick comfort food. 🍽🧀
I really like your old fashioned recipes that bring back good childhood memories. I sometimes alter the recipes to accommodate family glucose, gluten and lactose dietary restrictions. I find the recipes very tasty.
I love this recipe and can't wait to try it. What I love most of all is 'cooking for two.' I am retired and live alone. It is difficult to reduce old favorite recipes down for two. Nearly impossible to cook for one. Cooking for two means that I can have left overs and not have to cook the next day. Please, more cooking for two recipes. :)
Phyllis...another Great meal.Thank you for all your work in putting these together.I love the way you clearly explain each step and your cute accent...from you Canadian Fan..Thank You💐
I like your presentation. Sometimes there’s too much hype on TH-cam channels. I like your scallop potatoes method. I used to make tons for a big family and get togethers and it was a ton of work. Now I’m alone and I still make them for myself usually 9x13 and then next day cut them into squares and wrap in foil for the freezer. They are one of my favs so they don’t last too long. I usually put smoked ham in them so they can be a meal with some veggies on the side. I’m going to try your method. Looks much easier. I have to be careful not to make them too often. Thank you for a great demonstration!
I made The scallop potatoes tonight and they were delicious and a huge hit! Thank you so much Miss Phyllis! When I have food block I come to your channel and always find something delicious to fix for dinner! 🙏🏻❤️
Hi Ms Phyllis! Had a pork roast instead of meat loaf, but definitely needed another vegetable side dish so couldn't resist trying your quick version of scalloped potatoes. Another keeper, for sure! My crew showed no mercy & gobbled down those potatoes in the blink of an eye! No leftovers! I think I could have gotten away with serving only the potatoes for supper, Ms Phyllis!! Everyone enjoyed them. Thanks for sharing another recipe & for another video!
Another quick and easy casserole dish! You make nice meals and what I like most is that you almost always have 2 veggie dishes. I believe a good meal always has at least 2 vegetables. Kudos!
When I was young I always so amazed how people could cut vegetables like you just did and not cut them self. I used to think my Grandma was a pro at it. Then I learned how many moons ago and thought is that all. Lol. Looks so good. Thanks.
Oh my goodness Miss Phyllis. I wish I'd seen this earlier. I just made a version that said to bake the sliced raw potatoes in the creamy milk mixture for an hour. I must have had the wrong kind of potatoes because they were still a little hard after two hours!!! I am addicted to your cream cheese jello puddings, today I made a lime one with the mandarins and crushed pineapple. Even my husband loves it and he's never been a jello fan. A big thank you for making our meals a whole lot tastier, lots of love from New Zealand x
Miss Phyllis, I hope you are well today. I have a lot of feelings about you and your ups and downs. I am so glad you have the desire for life and thankfulness to do so. You mean so much to others who also are fighting their battles.
Thank you so much for this video. I love scallop potatoes but never made them because I thought they took to long! But this technique can be used during a week night meal for sure!
Of course, now I have to make these. ❤️ I usually make my scalloped potatoes using raw slices in the microwave. Takes about 15 minutes to cook that way. Do those plastic-bladed knives have to be sharpened? Also have you ever roasted Brussels sprouts? They are awesome! I halve them and toss with olive oil, garlic powder, salt and fresh ground pepper. Just remember not to use too much olive oil, don’t crowd them, use a shallow pan, and at least 450° or higher in the upper third of the oven until browned, but not charred. If memory serves, they take about 20 min or so, and you don’t have to turn them. I could eat “mass quantities” (The Coneheads) prepared this way. I buy them in the winter at Costco, and they are so sweet and fresh. They can also be topped with crumbled bacon or tossed with grated fresh lemon peel for a variation. Another 2 thumbs up for your vid. 👍👍
Your way of cooking the Brussel sprouts sounds awesome, will be fixing them your way next time. Thanks. The knives are not plastic they are ceramic and very sharp and they stay sharp. Not sure if Walmart still has them but you can order from Amazon and probably Bed Bath and Beyond. Be sure the package says ceramic because some of those coated knives look the same but are not ceramic.
Please let us know how the Brussels sprouts turn out for you. If you put too much oil, they will sort of stew in it and won’t be roasted. They should be lightly coated so that they just barely glisten. Good luck!
After all these years, I've wondered why my mom's recipe for this hasn't turned out for me. Just realized I haven't made the roux? or flour & butter & milk thickener so THAT'S why it didn't turn out. Your sauce with the cheese looks exactly how my moms recipe, thanks for this recipe Ms Phyllis!
Yum, haven’t made those in years. One of my moms favorites. She taught me how to make them and it was my job to make scalloped potatoes and ham every year with the left over ham from Easter.
Thanks for this quick recipe on the scalloped potatoes which are one of my favorite ways to eat them. The whole meal looked yummy as usual. Have a Blessed day.
I’ve never seen this recipe or way of making scalloped potatoes. Looks good! My mother uses canned mushroom soup, and we never boil the potatoes first. Your method looks quite a lot faster - thank you! :)
Hi Phyllis finally made these for me and hubby and we love them, I will keep evaporate milk in the pantry for now on, even cooked them in the toaster oven while the meat loaf was cooking. Thank you!
Well, I must say , that is the easiest scalloped potatoes I have ever seen! Quickest too! Great looking meal and wonderful tip. This would be a good one for those who work or have kids and need to get out of the door after supper for a school activity! YUM!
Those potatoes look great, all of it does, I've never tried making them. About 20 years ago there was a Bill Knapp's restaurant near us, they had the best scalloped potatoes ever. I will try making these for certain!!
That looks so good you remind me of my Southern mama she cooked just like you ❤️ you have the kindest voice I so love watching you ❤️ catching up on all your videos❤️ I have-been vegan 🌱 almost 4 years but I just love watching you I can make a lot of your dishes vegan 🌱 so sorry to hear about you being sick prayers for a fast recovery 🙏 please update us all how your doing 🙏 keeping you in my prayers 🙏
Ymmmm…..and yet another MEGA Dinner for Mr. Bucky and you Miss Phyllis, Homemade everything! The Scalloped potatoes, the yummy meatloaf with a good helpin' of kétchup, the cooked brussel sprouts and the fried biscuit,...whoa…...did you say Fried Biscuit, gonna watch the upload later in the day, seems like EVERYTHING tastes better fried! lol...;)
I will be trying it for this coming holidays. thanks. I have been trying some of your recipes, since I just joined your channel a week ago. have been so greatfull. thanks
That is the first recipe I've ever seen to make scalloped potatoes on the stovetop and with condensed milk. I've always baked them in the oven with regular milk. I make more than we can eat for dinner as I really love them and don't get to make them very often as hubby usually cooks. He'll eat them if I make them, but it's never his first choice.
Cooking the potatoes on the stove top is a great idea. I usually put them in the oven to cook. I don’t know if I like using can evaporated milk but will try with whole milk flour and butter and then in a toaster oven or maybe an air fryer oven. Thank you for this faster recipe…..
I learned to cook at the hem of my grandmother's apron. She was an awesome cook but didn't own a cutting board. We peeled and cut everything up in the air with a knife, and you learn real quick how not to cut yourself. Keep on keepin on and say hi to mr. Lucky!
I miss seeing your kind face and new recipes i go back and watch your older ones ...RIP sweet angel

Miss and love you beautiful lady! Your recipes are wonderful! Give God a hug for me!
Thank you so much for this video. I love scallop potatoes but never made them because I thought they took to long! But this technique can be used during a week night meal for sure!
Mmm....my favourite meal. Good old fashioned comfort food. Thanks for the shortcut idea. You are a pro with that knife!
Wonderful idea for potatoes, I will most definitely be trying this dish. Hello to you and Mr. Buckey, and pets....
I miss you so much and appreciate this video they were super easy potatoes and I'm never buying the box kind again. LOVE YOU!
love scalloped potatoes yum yum
Those look so good and I love the quick version.
Good luck!
I can’t wait for fall... it’s so hot but the potatoes look delicious.
That looks sooooo delicious! It's quick and it's nutritious because you have the vegetable, meat, and starch. You're a wonderful chef!
All your dinners look scrumptious Ms. Phyllis...Yum!
Thanks for this lesson Phyllis. We usually make them from the box, but I am going to try recipe tomorrow. So easy!
Thank you so much.❤️ Love your simple and tasty cooking/recipes! God bless!
I love your recipes Phyllis. That's what I call old-fashioned home cooking.😉
Delicious!!!!🤗 you always do a good job and you make it simple! I just love it!❤️
You slice just like my mom did and she never lost a finger either. Lol
Genius. I love this shortcut. I’m definitely going to have to try them. Thanks for sharing this.
THANK YOU for the video it was a lot quicker than the way I have always done it and it doesn't heat the whole house up .☺
Never have I had brussel sprouts,I better get on it ! I am not a picky eater at all..look Soo good,Thank you, what an inspiration you are!
Yum, haven’t made those in years. One of my moms favorites. She taught me how to make them and it was my job to make scalloped potatoes and ham every year with the left over ham from Easter.
Rest In Love Mrs. Phyllis and Mr. Bucky!!!

Lucky!
Never have I seen anyone cook potatoes in so little water! That was amazing! If I tried that I would have burned them. Btw..they looked delicious!
