Roberta Gellis ❤❤❤. She died 6 years ago. Most people equate the start of the romance genre with Kathleen Woodiwiss, but Gellis predates her by a decade with her first books Knight’s Honor and Bond of Blood, 1964 and 1965.
The book you bought- Fires of Winter- is the 2nd book in a 2 book series. It stands alone but the hero in FOW is the half brother of the heroine in Tapestry of Dreams.
Her historicals are *historical*- she is so good on accuracy in the medieval period. It’s not for everyone. But, oh she was a master! She’s most famous for her six book series, the Roselynde Chronicles.
Dazzling Brightness- your other book- was written in the 1990s.
She was awarded RWA’s *lifetime achievement* award in 1986! But kept writing into the mid-2000s. She was one of the first romance authors I ever read… way way back in the early 90s.
A lot of her books are on KU now. Hopefully more will follow, I’ve enjoyed rereading these. But remember they are from the 1960s-1980s. I would not call them “bodice rippers” but they have things in them that wouldn’t be written today.

I loved Victoria Holt when I was younger. I’m probably due for a reread. A lot of hers have gothic vibes.

    That's a great haul! 😍
I read and enjoyed lots of Victoria Holt as a teenager (the more historical romancish Daughters of England series she wrote as Jean Plaidy was a particular obsession) and recently started to collect and reread her gothics, starting with the Bride of Pendorric

Victoria Holt was one of my favorites and still is she also wrote as Gene Plaidy which is she wrote a plethora of historical to do with actual history even Eleanor of Aquitaine the courts of love so if you enjoy her writing you have much to enjoy go back to the beginning stairs one called the mistress of melon if you can find it and it was my first Victoria Holt back in the day and I’m an old person you will enjoy the journey with Playdium Hult

Thanks for recommending the 1797 Dukes Club series by Jess Michaels! I loved The Broken Duke!! Just finished An Affair in Winter by her, a different series. It has an interesting premise and h/h get stranded at an inn by a snow storm so you might like. 😀

The Nora Roberts is a time travel that mostly takes place in the modern world. It is also very witchy. I really enjoy the series.

Love Victoria Holt...usual a great historical mystery romance. Read her a couple decades ago and then reread several of them about a year ago. Good Fall read.

I would love to suggest The Three Sisters Island, Cousins O'Dwyer, and Guardians trilogies if you're looking for some top notch Nora Roberts. All have a dash of fantasy. Three Sisters are my comfort reads and the heroes...perfect. A runner up option is also the Key trilogy.

Fires in winter by Johanna Lindsay was a great one and made me a fan.

The Macgregor books from Nora Roberts are fun. Not historicals but they might as well be because the patriarch Daniel Duncan is a modern highlander. Him trying to get his kids and grandkids married was hilarious. I read them in the 90s and early 2000s.

I love this. Will need to watch this video again to write down names and titles. Also Jewel of the Sun is one you should start with on Nora. You can thank me later.

@@lunalovegood9431 it's been a while since I read it. I hope it still holds up. I remember the next one in that trilogy was really good.

You probly already read them since you posted this vid, but Lady of Fire by Valerie Vayle is the first in a trilogy. I noticed in another video you were confused about which came first, Seaflame & Oriana also by the same author, Seaflame is book 2, and Oriana the finale.

I love Nora Roberts but I have to say the circle trilogy was not one of my favorites. If you want to read one of her paranormal romances the blood brothers trilogy is my favorite. It’s one I reread every couple years!
