I need to mention this Rudeus actually uncomfortable with the Slavery stuff. But he can't do anything, actually he can just save the slave but it would bring a bunch trouble. Just like Ruijerd he can just kill Person to save the slave but Rudeus he can't kill a Person he not used to it. And he also can't change the system its kinda a thing and part of this world and he need to used to it and lives with it. And that's all he can do. Its not like he accepting the slavery stuff its just he can't do anything about it.
There are countries in the Six-Faced World that would not survive without the slave trade, it's an important part of the economy.
Your heart is in a good place but I think you are missing the mental issue with Julie. She is just six years old and has been separated from all that she knows, nothing is familiar. I don't think the slaver wasn't feeding her so much as she had totally given up and wasn't eating. You can't force someone to eat when they don't want to. She sees nothing, notice that she doesn't react to Rudy or anything, she has totally given up. Rudy, by speaking her language, at least is something familiar but she has nothing. "I don't want to die." is good enough for now. Eventually she will have something to live but not at that moment.
Great
I’ve conversed with many older homeless 40-60’s they had many opportunities/help offered to them and they don’t take it. It wasn’t comfortable to ask if she was giving up to find out if the child, within herself carried hope. If she didn’t, you will have just taken on a tragedy. By the way the reactor went straight to putting words in Rudeus’ mouth which she has done on multiple occasions.
@@ElyonDominus fr. The best TH-cam channel to watch for MT reaction is AutoSave. They literally take notes and have meaningful conversations at the end.
@@ElyonDominus some people watch MT because it's popular and think "easy views and subs", but the thing is, MT is 100% about the lore, not the flashy fights or the fanservice, or your cute kawaii loli like other generic isekais. It's sad that we only have 1 or 2 quality Mushoku Tensei reactors in youtube (wont say names because it's not my intent to do spam)
@@ElyonDominuswhen did she say she doesn’t care about MT? Or are you just putting words in her mouth?
Rudeus did not go with the intention of saving people, they were just looking for a slave for a specific job, it is cruel but they are not charity. He identified with her and tried to give her a choice if she chose to die Rudeus would choose another slave. It's cruel but they didn't go with the intention of saving the slaves.
When Rudeus talked to Julie and suggested to end her miserable life, he didn't want to persuade her to give up. He only wanted to find out if she had given up on life already. He didn't want to do anything against the will of this poor girl, even if it was meant to be in her best interest. Because forcing her to live when she actually didn't want to could possibly make her suffer even more, and he didn't want her to suffer any longer.
i think there are two reasons he offered the little girl death so quickly, the first was because he knows from his own experiences with depression to the level of suicidal thoughts that nobody can make you want to live and if you genuinely want to die no matter how hard anyone tries to give you a life worth living they'll never be able to truly save you from yourself only you can make the decision to want to keep living(that's the "true salvation" he was saying he couldn't give her), the second is because when he tried to kill himself he had already been depressed and potentially considering suicide for a long time just like this little girl and even after everything was going ok all it took was one more push and he tried to end it all extremely quickly because he was so emotional and couldn't see through it, so when he saw someone else in the same position he was in he did it differently, he clearly and calmly offered a merciful end to her life if it was what she wished and did so with sincerity so that she could see he was serious and that this potentially could really be the end of her life giving her time to seriously think about her life and whether she wanted it to be over that way it wasnt some heat of the moment decision but rather serious reflection on whether her will to live outweighed her depression
W comment
These past episodes have been slow but good. Rudeus has had some serious development but still needs some work. We also got a new addition to the ground now.
Its the same case with Rudy. He can't just give her a life the she didn't want. Giving her a job its not like she will like to do it this girl already given up to her life. When you already given up you don't want to do anything. Even when rudy locking himself in his room, and we know how cares Rudy Parent is but it will not work if you don't want to do it because you already given up.
I'm not sure she wasn't fed, maybe she was so depressed, she didn't eat on her own at all. (Not a light novel reader, so just guessing here.)
In the novel she was described as looking miserable and on the bones, the anime was very generous with how she looks.
The... slave market has complicated morality. Some of the slaves are there because of financial issues. Others are there as victims of trafficking. Some have sold themselves into it as a means for a better life. The big muscular dude and woman you see Fitz reacting too are I believe the lattermost case, they are there because they want to be, and the only people who could really afford them or put them to any good use would be nobles looking for bodyguards.
The show discussed it in s1, but it's prettymuch a universal industry in the world of mushoku tensei. Any and all races, ages and genders are subject to trafficking. The Greyrat family used to be notorious for their love of female members of the beastmen race... and for what it's worth they did treat them fairly well. Given the nature of society, it's really hard to "un-traffick" people.
In regards to Julie, Rudy was trying to get a spark out of her and at least get something of a response (like a will to live), hence why he asked her if she still wants to live. Rudy would not have killed her regardless if she had or hadn’t said anything.
That is incorrect. In the light novel Rudy was actually prepared to kill her despite the fact he hates killing people. If she said kill me, he would have. She had 3 options, go with Rudy; say nothing and nothing would happen; or take Rudy on his offer to kill her. Rudy is more tougher than you think.
In the LN Rudy's inner monologue mentioned that he actually was serious when he asked if he should end it for her. He even mentions that he can't save someone if they don't want to be saved and that it was better to just end it.
I am currently living in Japan for 7yrs now and I just want to say that his opinions/views on Julie before taking her in comes from being a former Hikikimori (Shut in) in his previous life. It’s not really simple for Hikikimori people to be rehabilitated for various reasons. Most of them have deep despair that prevents them to see the good things in life. That’s why he suggested to end it for her since forcing her to work or forcing other values into a person with deep despair will have opposite effects. Rudeus is uncomfortable with the situation but, he tried to ignite a spark of hope in her and thankfully she responded. Which convinced him to help her try again. In th LN, it really is a heartbreaking moment 😢
fun fact: Zanoba provided the funds to buy Julie 😸
Thumbnail look great. I haven't had the chance to watch it yet. Can't wait 😁👍
Thank you for watching this show, I always look forward to your reactions!
Rudeus thought process was explained better in the LN. He asked if she wanted to die, because when he died he was able to get a second chance at life with reicarnation, so he thought if he killed her, she would be able to have that second chance too.
the language that rudeus used to comunicate is the "Fight God" language... when he was living in Fitoa being Eris' teacher, he studied "Fight God", "Demon God" and "Beast God" languages, and during his studies he learned that dwarves spoke "Fight God"... It's not as diferent from Human language, so he learned it quickly, never had the oportunity to use it though...
I didnt get the reading that Rudeus was instructing her to sumit to death. I took it as him trying to get her to respond.
Say that they had purchased her, and given her food but she wouldn't eat, eventually sucumming to sickness or starvation. That is to say nothing of trying to teach and tutor.
By coaxing from her some expression of her own volition, even if only a desire to not die, means that they have something to build upon. They can nurture her back to health and help her count her blessings.
I don"t know if Rudeus was serious or not, or if he was testing her to see if she wanted to die or not. Definitely a scary moment from Rudy.
Actually he is, the bad things is he thinking about if you tired and giving up you can just died and start over from the beginning like maybe she got a chance to get reincarnated. Actually it is scary, but for people that already live in this kinda Bad situation you will think died even better than living with that kinda situation.
@@reignmans The "starting over" bit was only his wishful thinking and not the real reason he would have done it. His wishful thinking is that if he was able to get reincarnated maybe she would as well, then she would be able to get a second chance at a better life.
The real reason is:
"I couldn’t save this girl. I could buy her clothes, I could feed her,
I could even offer her kind words. But I knew better than anyone that
that didn’t equate to saving her. It wasn’t saving a person to force
them into something that they didn’t want. If that were the case, it
was better to end it for her."
I get the feeling that you haven´t seen the special episode between season 1 and season 2? It follows Eris hunting goblins, it´s about what she did when rudeus met his father back in season 1 part 2.
You should really watch it, it´s not too late but it may be too late later in season 2! :D
julie wasnt capture, she was sell by her parent to pay their debt, i think you didnt notice this detail
How the F was she supposed to notice that when it wasn't mentioned anywhere?
I didn't even know about a meteor shower, but im in florida so i dont know if i would have saw anything.
The other student is Silent Seven Star, the one who introduced the food Rudeus mentioned is close enough to japanese food
July is a legal slave, so her family either sold her, or they are dead, thats why she had given up, and since she is a legal slave, the owner will try to keep her in shape to sell her, but she had given up and stopped eating, thats why giving her a good living standard may not be enough
To be more accurate, Julie's entire family had to sell themselves into slavery because of debt.
I like it when slavery is shown in this way ... without embellishment. People nowadays have completely forgotten how terrifying it was.
I think Rudeus did the right thing. Rudeus offered to take her life because he didn't want to force her to live if she didn't want to live. He checked whether she still had the will to live. He suggested a mercy killing. Does it make sense?
It's just...a person can be so broken...that even if placed in ideal conditions, they won't recover if they no longer have the will to live. They will be emotionless silent dolls. That is why it was important to understand if she still had the will to live or not. They needed someone who still wants to do at least something, to learn something.
I think you understood really well the feeling of survival with Juliette in this episode.
For me Rudy didn’t knew if she could be saved, he tried to empathize and give her a chance, she (luckily) wanted to survive and that’s why they chose her, it’s hard for anyone to try to help someone who doesn’t want to be saved, I believe he needed to know if she could accept help from them.
Ty for the reaction.
the point was that she had to make the choice of wanting to live if she was just helping rudues not of her own will then shes still just a slave
Not saying your wrong, but look at it this way, would you force salvation on someone who has been through hell? I feel rudeus gave her something that was taken from her, a CHOICE, the freedom to choose, do you want to live or die?
and someone who wishes for death can't be saved is the mentality, mental healthcare isn't a thing in this world unfortunately and none of our main characters who walked into that slave market were trying to savaiors in the first place if you know what mean
When he said "i've seen those eyes before", Rudeus wasnt talking about the moment eris left him and got depressed, he was talking about his past life, where he spend 20 years as shut in with deep depression, longing to die but he doesnt have the force to do it himself.
Rudy realized that without a will to live bying Juliette would do nothing
it's harsh but it's reality, you can't save someone that doesn't want to be saved
Slavery in Mushoku tensei is part of society and economy. most people will probable fight to keep it, even the slaves thenselfs.
Mushoku Tensei slavery is not race based is economy based, if i remember right the 2 most common ways to become a slavery legaly is
1-Selling yourself into slavery, many people decide to become slaves to avoid starvation and proverty, if you are homeless you can become a slave, slaves get food and houses, in most cases they get stable lifes. Some people decide to become slaves so they can sell the money to their family, for example farmers normally sell one member of the family into slavery so they can get the money for seeds and tools, once they sell the havest and get money they buy the family member back.
2-Debit slaves, if you buy stuff and don't have the money to pay you can get a slave, if you make a loan you can give yourself as collaretal, but if you fail to pay you become a slave.
3- if am not mistaked criminal can also become slaves.
Some people become slaves after they are kidnaped, but this is illegal, the problem is most people in mushoku dont know how to read or write, making hard to prove they are not a debt slaved telling a lie to scape
I'm pretty sure Rudeus was kind of testing her to see if her spirit was broken or if she still had enough hope to start over from that point.
He wouldn't really do it either in the middle of the place with all these people watching, and i don't think he has ever killed anyone yet.
I think everything you said at the end is the entire point of Rudeus’ second life. He shouldn’t have given up and regrets it. Which is why he is moving forward this time around. Her situation honestly, is much worse. Which is why he gives her the choice. Unsure if he would’ve done it, but he didn’t want to force her to go with them. I think he could’ve chosen better words. But he wanted to help the girl.
1. rudy is not a hero. he would had killed pre-juliette, 6, if she had not spoken, that she wants to live.
2. rudy has displayed psychotic apathetic behavior before: In 2 instances in season 1, he would had /did abandon slaves, because it did not fit into his goal.
3. will rudy start killing anyone who is deeply depressed because he doesn't know how to help them?
15:15 I know exactly what bleach episode you’re talking😂
Same here. It was the episode where the backstory of Ikkaku finding Zaraki and after getting defeated deciding to become a soul reaper was played.
This just reminded me that I should watch the new bleach season
They are giving her a choice. They dont havre to go out of their way for every slave that they met.
I feel that your reflection on rudeus' actions is a bit unfair on your part because just as you said that rudeus spoke reflecting on his own experiences, it is the same thing that you do. Finally, you have not gone through a situation similar to that of the girl either. You do not know the internal destruction that a person can have when losing everything. It also seems very little empathetic to me to say that you have to survive, underestimating the pain that she may be feeling in the end, the meaning of the Rudeus' actions rather it seems to me that he wanted to give him the freedom to choose. Since if he forced her to live even if she didn't want to, it would be like continuing in the dungeon, in the end rudeus put the girl's will to live to the test.
I agree with your sentiment that offering a purpose can change someone for the greater after succumbing to despair. Rudy, however, is giving her the choice to make that decision for herself. If they want to die and that's what they desire then Rudy will give that too them as gracefully as possible. Because the alternative is time and her ailments doing that for her in a horrible, painful way.
Sylphy can heal without incantation and Rudy can't!
I also felt uneasy with Rudeus asking a six year old with depression and trauma if they wanted to die. Suppose she did, then what? When someone is in deep depression to the point of having suicidal ideation it may feel like it will never get better, and that death is the only answer. But that's only because it's hard to see out of the black fog that is depression to a better future. And I get that Rudeus is saying no one can save you from that state if you aren't willing. But like you said, you can give them opportunities. You can do things that will raise their quality of life. You can listen and empathize and help them so that they might learn to hope again. Emotional pain can be as severe as physical pain. And severe pain of any kind can make someone feel like there is no end to it. That death is the only way out. But I feel like the humane thing to do for someone like that is to try and alleviate the pain through other means. Through love and empathy, or even just kindness and listening.
You are very naive. Rudeus and co didn't come there to save someone who doesn't want to be saved. They are not a charity. What's the point of creating an opportunity for someone when it might or might not work? You feel me? They went there to buy someone capable of learning to do a specific job.
If this girl just wanted to die. They would just buy another slave. Rudeus (most likely) wouldn't have killed her because then they had to pay for her.
what you don't seem to see, is that rudy has been there and knows that even if you are given opportunities, as long as you don't want to move forward nothing will ever change, like the other guy said, they are not there for charity, they are buying a slave for a definite purpose, and just happens to stumble upon her.
Even if they do give her an opportunity what's to say it will work in the state she was in? that's why rudy was testing her, to see if she even have the faintest of hope in her to still live and move forward, as even if the co. wants to save someone from there, they still have a goal in mind and doesn't want to give it to those who do not want it, because fun fact, in that world people sell themselves to slavery like the two muscular woman and man, rudy and sylphy was looking at in the episode as it was explained in the light novel
@@feodaron89Yeah, fair point. It may be a naive way of thinking. And maybe it wasn't Rudy's responsibility to try and save a complete stranger. But I still think it's irresponsible to suggest suicide as an option to a depressed person ( a child, no less) who might take you up on that because they can't see another way out.
@@kaikiriya2761I did understand that. Like I said, I get it when Rudeus said he couldn't give her salvation if she herself had no will to live. And I think that's true. But why test it by offering death, when you could test it by offering a better life? Still, I see what you're saying with Rudeus' purpose not being charity. Ultimately, it's not his responsibility to save every slave from slavery and depression. I still think it's based to suggest suicide to a child with depression, though. At least in the anime as I perceived it, Rudy seemed he would have killed her if she so desired. His hands were literally around her neck.
@@pfunkdanwRudeus no la iba a matar, simplemente si le decía que quería morir el la dejaría en paz y buscaría a otro esclavo. El no es la caridad, no puede salvar a todo el mundo de la esclavitud.
7:12 this Rudy is not the same immature one from season 1. He is maturing. When was the last time you’ve heard him think on anything Pervy? Since season 2 started I can’t remember him thinking of any.
Some might argue the panty worshipping is “old Rudy”. But honestly I don’t even think him worshipping roxy’s panties is sexual. I think he just genuinely looks up to Roxy and even if it wasn’t her panty, he was still be worshiping it. As long as it belonged to her
@@Louie23LA yea but he already gave that necklace to rujierd. Not only was the necklace a show of appreciation, but it’s to show how important rujierd was to rudeus. Roxy is the person he respects the most and the fact that he gave the necklace to him speaks volume.
Also we both know that’s a plot device bc I’m not a manga/LN reader but in 92% sure rujierd and Roxy is gonna cross paths and she’s gonna see the necklace and that’s how their friendship will start😅
I love the development of Julie and how Zanoba takes care of her
She was definitely going through much worse than Rudy ever did. At six years old she showed far more strength than Rudy ever has. One thing that was odd to me was Rudy assumed she would be reincarnated and have a shot at a better life than simply being a slave. He never made that assumption about anyone else though.
Yeah you can't take an abused child's answer seriously in regards to whether they want to live or die. That's a deeply flawed morality on part of Rudy and it's weird that some people feel the need to defend it. Art is not supposed to always propagate correct values and characters are not always supposed to have flawless moral compass, but don't seriously tell me that if a 6 year old who's known nothing but pain tells you they want to die you're supposed to take it at face value and make this permanent choice for them.
Slave or not the life of this girl could change in million ways yet, ending each and every possibility just because in that period she felt like she wants to end it is monstrous and incredibly short sighted.
You seem to have not paid attention to the fact that she was gonna die in a couple of months at most cause she was refusing to eat anything.
Rudeus offered her a more painless end to what she was already working towards, and testing to see whether she actually would follow through on it or if she could calmly reflect on her thoughts and come to a different conclusion.
Some people just don’t think through with the media they consume it seems, which explains why so much entertainment today is brain dead and has no value
@@The_PizzaMan literally nothing about what you said changes my point, you cant expect responsible decision from a little kid especially when it comes to life and death, if you cant comprehend as much i think you should redirect your brain dead comment inwards.
You may think you wanna die today, and i'm speaking from experience here. you may think the same tomorrow, but in a week you might wake up and decide that no, you want to live after all, you'll eat your food today and who knows maybe something good will happen, or maybe you will make it happen yourself. Even in 20 years of suffering something might happen that would make it worth suffering through. Each second of life that you're prepared to end is an opportunity that will never rise if you end it right here.
Noone has any right to force a child who still has infinite potential for change, no matter how horrible the current situation is, to make this fatal irreversible decision on the spot, i can't believe this is even a debate.
Essa mina é n entendeu nada na cena da julie
buying slaves is based :) sometimes
Date in the trafficking district ❤❤❤ lol
Date to the slave market let's go !
Agree with you soo much on that scene where they were buying Julie! Rudy had such a stupid mindset there lmao, yeah obviously she has no will to live rn. She's 6, is malnourished, and doesn't know any better. Going to blame the author rather than Rudy here because it's framed from Rudy as if this is the "correct" and "moral" choice lmfao give me a break
spoken like someone who's never been depressed
@BhlackBishop Yes you def know me and the reactor soo well 🤡. Keep supporting trash mindsets though
The amount of people who think it's okay to kill a child because they are starving and depressed is wild to me. Assisted suicide is not justified in cases of depresion or starvation, especially in the case of a child who cant even fully grasp what death might mean. Both starvation and depression are recoverable conditions. Furthermore, depression is a condition that clouds the judgement of the person who is depressed. Suicide may seem a reasonable option in that state, but that is part of the condition. Also, just because a person doesnt want help at the moment dosent mean that will always be the case.
If yall came across a homelss child who was starving, depressed and suicidal, you think you would be justified in killing them? No. Your ass would go to jail. Yall are wildin.
I þink Rudy is not experienced enough to understand how ðe human mind works. So ðat's why he þought he couldn't save her at first.
