Brilliant Damien... Every time I go out on a camp weather its on a fell or around a tarn a lake I always think have I got enough gear, I know its slightly different in the woods but just shows you don't need the contents of a house to camp, it's a great channel Damien and appreciated mate thankyou all the best marra take care stay safe 👍🏕️

Strange things sometimes do happen but you have to spend time there and decide for yourself. You and Jimmy spend one night there, embrace the forest and see what happens, you might get spooked out but after a while you will enjoy the place.
@@Fell_Wanderer me and Jimmy bad laughing at the thought of sleeping rough in a forest, our idea of camping is in our touring caravan.we are away soon. We wouldn't be able to get off the ground the next morning 🤣🤣(we are in our 70s). However our son and his wife were walking through Harwood about 3 weeks ago and they seen something very strange (at first we thought they were kidding us ) But Honestly they seen a man with Boots and cap and Haversack on and nothing else apparently they are called Naturist's (OMG ) pleased me and his dad didn't bump into him so yes Damian strange thing can happen in forests 😅🤣

I actually despise the BBC. They wanted to use my drone footage once and I told them where to go. The wife loves Eastenders but if it was up to me I'd stop paying the licence tomorrow as I dont watch any TV other than TH-cam. Thanks for your comment.
@@Fell_Wanderer we stopped having sky when we realised that it was £60 mth,then I cancelled my TV licence and got now TV boxes,I only watch TH-cam in my man cave,WILD, STEALTH & MORE WILD CAMPING "you know it makes sense"

I did try the dumpy bag hammock a few years ago so knew it worked. I found the bag dumped in a layby on the edge of the forest with green waste in so tipped that out and decided to recycle.

I've been self conscious of too many uploads of Harwood forest and what people think, I do love the place because noone else is around and feel relaxed and content. I've not fancied a camp anywhere else for a while and know I can't please everyone with each upload and style of camp but appreciate every comment dude.

I'm surprised just how much energy these small lithium power supplies can hold. The Explorer 240 is ideal for short hikes to a camping location and has more than enough power for a couple of days charging lights, camera's, phones etc.. Jackery have bigger power stations and bigger is often better but the not so little Explorer 240 surprised me in what it can deliver.
Must keep an eye out for one down here in NZ, cheers

I haven't bought my licence and permit this year, not sure I will because I didn't do a lot of fishing the year before lockdown and didn't miss it If I'm honest.
Great camp minimal gear
I just use a bivy now in Harwood with a mat and sleeping bag it’s great and quick
Nice to hear the voice and see the faces again when you do your quote
I would still recommend a small tarp incase it rains. I attach the 8x5ft Siltarp1 with bungy cords to tress and only takes seconds to deploy

I think your 3x2.9m will be more versitile than a small tarp but the smaller tarp is better for Harwood as the trees can be quite close together

Mate we camping at the weekend and we heard knocking in the woods as well ,,it's to get out the trail camera.
I don't think trail cameras work for paranormal activity. You will capture wild life and thats interesting but I tend to leave mine at home
Trail cameras are great to discover if there's a natural reason for any noise (such as young boys) 😀

Yep, I did hear one knock on my solo camp and didnt mention it because I was moving round in my bag at the time and the gain on the recorder is turned up high, it could have been me making a noise but sounded wooden when listening in post. Im passionate about the research and if I have doubts, wont include in my videos unless I'm sure its unusual activity.

I did a Solo up there a couple of months ago and heard some strange sounds ....got the sounds on the video.
I decided to return with a mate last weekend. I took my field recorder and recorded the whole night.
I listened to it when I got home and I caught a recording of something big passing our camp...you could hear sticks snapping and something pushing its way past branches. This was recorded about 2 hours after hitting the hay, but we didn't hear it as we were both asleep.
Either something or someone visited when we were asleep and to be honest, I don't think it was deer...Defo sounds like something on two feet.

Hi Mick, what video are you referring to and I will have a listen to see whether its something I've experienced. The thing is with audio recorders, if you have the gain turned up, a sound made by a small animal like a rodent will sound quite loud next to the microphone. However, I've heard footstep like sounds before so know its possibe what you heard could be something walking around your camp. One night camping at Harwood with Andy Wardle, we were asleep as the recorder was picking up both of us snoring. There was the sound of a drinks can being crushed. There was no wind and it wasn't like it just fell over but rather a gentle crushing sound. That was the same night the recorder picked up the sound of Christopher being spoken twice. I've camped there for years now and experienced things like that and other instances of high strangeness, its hard to explain it all as purely natural?.. There is something paranormal going on I don't understand and if you visit enough times you will experience strange things. Over the years, lots of people have told me accounts of things happening in the Northumbrian area so I know this phenomenon is real.

Great Vid as always Damian, guilty of not commenting on quite a few of your others as I always seem to watch you on the telly these days. Good idea with the builders bag hammock. Looks like you’ve got yourself a great secluded location. Next Monday I’m up there on the Bike for a stealthy camp. Was only supposed to be two of us but I got the “can I come, can I come off a few of the Lads” so pressures on to find a decent secluded spot with 5 blokes on motorbikes. Wish me luck. Was probably thinking similar spot I’ve been before??? If your about say hello just not in the middle of the night with a Squatch suit on 🤣🤣👍 ATB Pal. Ps I bought some crackin night vision binoculars have a look at a previous van vid I did in Northumberland the other week did a bit of a review on em. PPS think Christopher had you on the last one 😂👍
Steve, where you were the last time is ok, you are close to your bikes and will still enjoy the Harwood spooky experience. You could ride further in and onto the forest roads, its more scenic but forestry vehicles are present so stealth camping is key.

Was looking at google earth if I was to follow the road to the village and do a left kind of goes in a circle around village and then goes north there is an abandoned house any good around that area? Or you reckon we’d get nabbed by a ranger forestry commission.
When you arrive at the sign post to the village and turn in off the Eldon road, you dont have to drive through and past the village as I think there are gates that maybe locked, just take the first turn left after the Harwood village sign post which is before you reach the village and you are on the main forest road that takes you anywhere in the forest you want to go, thats the road all the forestry and logging vehicles use and bypasses the village. I think you will get spotted very easy in that place unless you are off the tracks and hidden in the trees. There is a farm not far from that abandoned cottage and there is quite a few trees cut down in that area so finding a spot might be difficult. I would ride around, there has to be somewhere you can camp. Its better scenery towards Simonside in the north of the forest.

Just heard about it. Jimmy's camp was unlikely to get found if well hidden and I believe it was. One tip, is to tell noone of the location and forest rangers can get good ideas from the smallest of detail in a video.

Sorry to hear about your camp Jimmy, forestry know the area well and although you were very careful about filming the exact location, they may have got clues from watching your videos.

@@LundysWildcampBushcraft Really sorry to hear this news - I always thought it might get discovered by Tossers and trashed, never thought that the Forestry Commission would find it and remove it as you were doing no harm and are usually cleaning up trash left by others in the general area. I wonder if they're using technology to locate such camps as otherwise it would be difficult to find if you didn't have a clue or were specifically seeking such camps out.
...what happens when food goes out of date, is the enzymes go a little "flat". Nutritionally & taste-wise, they are generally ok. The loss of 'zip' is due to the flat enzymes.

You caught some kind of red light at the @2:25 mark. Look slightly right of the centre of the screen and you'll just see it in the dark gap between the moss.
That was my red camera tripod, I only noticed after uploading, otherwise it would have been edited out. Thanks for your comment.

@Duskhunter. Agreed, it's bad practice and a piss poor example of wild camping.
I leave no trace when not coming back, I thought that would be obvious. Its a semi permanent camp, I don't see the point of dismantling and taking stuff away, only to return later.

I heard one knock when I was shuffling around in my bag. The gain is turned up on the field recorder and I can't be sure if I tapped something when going to the toilet and sounded louder than it would on the recorder so decided not to include in the video
I will say, sounded like a power knock. I need to go back through and listen. I was alone and the movement in my camp area led me to think it was me

You've given me an idea, I'll plug the telly into the Jackery power station. Not sure what the reception is like and there won't be a decent satellite signal through the trees but would be a laugh seeing if it would work. 🤣

Hey Damien, what do you normally do for parking and that when you go wildcamping to kielder or Simonside etc. Is overnight parking okay etc. Ever been clamped.... do you even drive to your locations, or get dropped off etc? Any advice greatly appreciated mate.
All the parking locations I research using Google Earth street view to find good spots. Some car parks will say no overnight parking but unless there is a sign saying you will be clamped, it wont happen. I've never been clamped and touch wood, the car hasn't been vandalized parking in remote locations. I've heard of people being moved on while parking in the Kielder area but that was campervans parked next to the reservoir. Simonside and Thrunton woods have signs up saying no parking overnight but I've parked there lots of times and nothing has happened. Not sure what the parking is like for Kielder, I dont go very often but a quick Google search for Kielder overnight parking should give you some locations.

Yo Damo, seen a couple more of your older videos with buddy burners and coleman duel fuels, and thought have you ever tried a kelly kettle stove? for the type of camping you do id highly recommend one mate, super light very efficient and can cook and boil water simultaneously. if you get a full kit, you can get high quality cups, saucers/pans and pots. give it a check out lad, you wont be disappointed, ive got one and i think it makes alot of sense
They are good but a bit big for the minimal style of camping I do. Would be good for a more permanent camp where the gear can be left to come back to.
I like that your out there enjoying the countryside but dude, what happened to leave no trace?
It's a semi permanent camp and plan to return in the near future. I couldn't see the logic of taking things away just to bring back again
With previous camps, once I move on they get dismantled.
Your set up is great 👍 Great video. Just a quick question as you seem to know your way round Harwood Forest really well. I went on a family holiday to Northumberland and I visited Harwood forest for about 2 hours .
Just wanted to know if you are familiar with this entrance to the forest and could identify what I filmed ,I think there is 99 percent chance this was a tree stump and my family and I just made a mistake thinking it wasn’t there at the beginning of our walk into the forest ,
But thought maybe you would recognise what it is straight away if you have been through that entrance and have seen it before .
Anyway basically on our walk in, we noticed the metal gate and woodland to what was the left of us when we turned right into the forest trail, the “stump” didn’t stand out to us at all as we didn’t even notice it and thought it wasn’t there on arrival . On the way back it really stood out for some reason, maybe that was because we were coming head on to it and it wasn’t like the arrival (when it was on left of us)
Sorry for the long comment I just want to be out out of my misery by someone who has seen this before !

@@Fell_Wanderer Thanks for your help, we came through elsdon and followed the long road up to the forest and parked in a layout that had a gate that enters the forest . I’ve tried to locate it precisely on google maps but it is hard . You may recognise the entrance from my video and where I am walking in the forest , it’s the first video on my channel .
The second video is the sighting and the area of concern. Hope you recognise the area from the footage ! Let me k is if not and thanks for helping me out .
The entrance gate to the forest is at grid ref: NY 97225 90569 and when you walk up the track about 200m, the metal gate and stump like object looks to be at NY 97140 90742 or if using Google Earth is at 55°12′39″N , 002°02′47″W just before you bear right onto the long straight track. The next location I recognise is when you are on your way back along the long straight track I just mentioned where at 14 mins 50 seconds in the video, you talk about the noise sounding like Chewbacca. I know that place well as I've camped in that same spot on my last Harwood forest bike packing video. The grid ref is NY 97945 91197 so if I'm right, the stump like object is a further 800m down the track as you approach the bend which bears left. You see the object more head on this time which may explain why you missed it on your way in like you mentioned as it would have been more to the left hand side of you when passing the first time. If I'm right about the location, this is about 200m from the gate where you first walked through. I will email you a map and pics if you want, it might jog your memory to the exact location. I am at Harwood tomorrow and will visit the place I think is where you saw the object and take some pictures and compare them to screen shots from your video. My email is fellwanderer01@gmail.com

I'm hoping the stump isn't there so we have a real mystery on our hands. The area I think its in is a fire break between old and new plantations, so there shoudn't be a tree stump there unless its been a tree right on the edge, which has fallen down due to the wind which happens a lot in exposed areas and what we see is a root ball in the air and the forestry has removed the rest of the tree when felling. I hope I'm wrong but hopefully we will know one way or another tomorrow, ATB.

what is your perspective on the regulations, acts or laws associated with wild camping, hunting, fishing and wild foraging? i love wild camping with a passion but i am often deterred by all the above mentioned bullocks. i really like your channel mate and am thinking about getting into this myself could you tell us some history of your adventures, how you got into it and what keeps you going out? have you ever had bother whilst camping mate ? any replies will be greatly appreciated keep up the good work mate, never know might even meet you in future sometime cause i know it makes sense :) - a freedom wanting gateshead lad
The laws regarding wild camping, hunting, fishing and foraging seem over the top but tend to agree with them because there are too many people who act irresponsibly. I've always enjoyed the outdoors, camping and photography. I started filming but didn't upload stuff until a few years later when I thought it would be a good idea to store my videos on TH-cam as a backup as I didn't have much space on a small hard drive. I also thought what I uploaded might be of interest to other people so I started the channel and the rest is history. I never thought the channel would become as popular as it is and I'm humbled people find what I do, interesting enough to watch and even seek advice. I'm not an expert and what works for me might not work for other people but I'll always find the time to give advice if asked. I've learned a lot from watching others on TH-cam and thats one of the reasons why I enjoy doing what I do. Its a community who share knowledge, content and great ideas. I'm lucky to be apart of it and have made good friends along the way.
@@Fell_Wanderer hey Damien cheers for the reply mate, I’m much the same I agree to an extent but it can make it hard for people like us to achieve more freedom. I’ve been going on trips for years with me family but never properly recorded it, over the past few weeks of watching your channel you’ve really inspired myself and my family to get back into it, we always done camping but not tried wild camping, it’s got to be better cause we all well into birdwatching and foraging. Really agree with you on watching others in this community, there is a lot of good channels but not so many from round our area of England. Are you planning on doing some catch clean cooks in future on your channel, it’s quite common for overseas youtubers to do, I only know of a few English channels to do CCC. Would be awesome to see your take on the style mate. Also have you thought about doing gear/equipment videos, I’d imagine I’m not alone in wondering what your options are for kit, it’d be a good idea for a video. Again keep up the good work look forward to seeing more content.

Just mark your camps long and lat on Google maps and wander to your hearts content knowing you can always get back
I have walked around in a complete circle before in Harwood. Because of how the forest is laid out, tracks are at regular intervals so its difficult to get proper lost but I've got temporarily lost walking inside unil reaching one of the tracks, then it can be difficult knowing which track I'm on but I have maps on my phone, although in the forest my phone doesn't get a GPS signal. The thing is, I know how to find my camp from a couple of landmarks so it can be difficult finding the place if I wander to far away.

Its about 6 miles long from the southern end to Simonside in the north near Rothbury and about 3 miles wide

No birds singing that's one creepy place.
The birds do sing an hour or so before night time and first thing in the morning. The forest is a quiet place most of the time so the brief time the birds do sing is lovely to hear.
Unable to watch without noticing your discomfiture of much nippiness at 13:16 runtime on vid , my brother t is probably all that snow on Cheviot, yes provided by Yetti, sitting in Bellyside,
Bizzle Burn , Bizzle Crag's and ye olde Hen Hole escarpments, get out and do a bit of climbing(no, not on the trees) YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE
