    I can verify to everyone that there’s definitely a voice says “Christopher” you need headphones to hear it. Freaked me out as we were both flat out. Other sounds Damien sent me as well the tin can and a knock. I’m the worlds biggest sceptic but I went into that with an open mind and now I’m spooked 😂
    Great vid damo definitely need to dust my bike off and join ya. With our matching t shirts. 😂 Atb 👍

      I am always game for camping at Harwood, so let me know when you are and will try and make it. On my last trip I heard deep groaning or a growl but I think that might have been me clearing my throat so didn't put it in the video. I also heard a ratchet sound, like a magpie would make but it was in the middle of the night. I am returning with Christopher soon to see if whatever made the sounds will return. He doesn't seem freaked out by it but wants to go anyway.

      I'm on the fence aswell, but I done a camp in dinorwic quarry, and something was rattling through our bottle bag in the bothy, the old quarry mans canteen, wasnt wild animals because the next morning nothing was out of place. Plus there was a loud noise like somebody was smacking a plank of wood against something, do u think I could sleep?👺😱

    Hi Damien thanks for that shout out mate I really appreciate it I hope we can meet up for a camp in Harwood it's a fantastic place I love it up there I was looking at doing a hammock camp in that area to the right of the bridge but it's definitely a boggy area Harwood is definitely a strange place when the sun goes down but I will always camp there I never see many people up there to be honest I will email you when I'm next up if you fancy a meet up once again thanks for the shout out atvb jimmy 😎😎👍👍🤘🤘

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That area next to the bridge looks great on google earth and from pictures on the internet but was boggy and difficult to get to with the bike so moved on. You can't get a decent phone signal on O2 and I like to report home and let people know I'm ok so that was another reason I moved on. I'm there with my son Christopher in the next few days as he's off school and I will let you know after that when I'm next out. I reckon with Christopher being there it might be more likely what made the sounds will return. I don't know if thats a good thing or not or that we are tempting fate by going back but he's not scared but must be because I am a bit lol

    @MrAlphafang 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey up Damien, good to see you back again buddy. Here's a different take on recording sounds. My son and myself were out wild camping with all manner of recording equipment set up and running. We set the gear up a short distance away from camp near a feature we wanted to observe. It got to about 01:30 and we decided to have a walk over and check the equipment was all still running (no dead batteries) We got to the spot and were looking over the equipment when a noise, I will describe as a very loud whooping howl, came from all around us, impossible to give a left or right direction. It was just there. I had no idea what had made the noise, not a deer not a fox no animal call I could recognise. Great we had something to analyse. We got a couple of lights crossing the IR camera possibly spiders floating by on webs or maybe beetles flying by. The loud noise was nowhere to be heard on either of the sound recorders... nothing ... We checked all audio recordings thoroughly no loud noise. Now that puzzled us both more than any noise (voice) we have ever captured.

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats unusual and maybe it was a fault with the recorder?. Its a hassle to listen to all the audio but its the only way to hear everything, I usually have about 12 hours and its a real pain going through it all. You can't even just look at the waveform for spikes as you will still miss much quieter sounds. I stop listening once dawn arrives as there is too many birds flapping in the trees. Its easier only listening to night time audio as you can eliminate animals that aren't nocturnal.

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never heard whoops but have heard other animal sounds I can't explain. Done plenty of woods knocks and have heard knocks in response. This was through the day and might have been other people but very unlikey.

Have you thought about getting some Panniers for your bike so you can carry more gear? Please keep the Vids coming your by far the best all-round wild camper on the Tube.

      I've had wood knocks in response to my knocks so know this phenomenon is real. Even on one of my previous camps in local woods this year, I heard a loud wood knock coming from across a river where it was wooded but privately owned farmland with no public access so very unlikely to be people creating those sounds.

      Other people have mentioned bothies around Kielder being haunted or strange things happening. I can't remember which ones but would be a good place for a paranormal investigation. I've never stayed at a bothy because you aren't guarenteed to have the place to yourself, although I'm sure most people who use them are ok to camp with.

    Do you never use a sleeping bag thats gets down to - 10 then you know your going to be warm enough.

      I have a warmer sleeping bag for winter, Alpkit Skyehigh 700, it goes down to -8 but its a bit more bulky so like to use the Vango Venom 300 which has a comfort rating down to 4 degrees but wont keep me warm below freezing but fits nicely in a small back pack, thats why I like it more.

      I usually park in one of the layby's on the gibbet road to Elsdon. The forest on the south side is where the the most mature trees are and its easier to find a spot near one of the streams. I've camped at these places which has a water source at NY 98193 90789 and NY 97938 91214. There another place which doesn't have a water source but its next to an open area and lets a bit of light in at NY 98433 90989. Its marked enclosure on OS maps and is an ancient Romano British settlement. The area around Gunners Box and Manside Cross looks ok, its open and there are decent views towards Simonside and to the west at sunset as they have been felling trees so is quite open NY 98545 92122. Watch Jimmy's channel, Lundy's wilcamp/bushcraft. One of his last video's he camped at Gunners box, its the site of an old iron age settlement and medieval cross. If you want views head towards Simonside as the forest opens up and there is mixed planting but I wasn't able to find a decent spot. The area near Fallowlees Loch looks ok, although I've not been but Jimmy has in one of his previous videos and the loch offers a water source. There are cup and ring marked stones more towards Fontburn and ancient standing stone circle at NZ 02248 93787. Not sure whether its ok to camp there though. I've only ever camped at the southern end of the forest and is mainly dense sitka spruce and a bit boring so if you prefer the views it opens up more towards Simonside as there is lots of felling taken place.

      I've tried going down the lightweight route by using the Hunka bivy and the weight and size is great for the most minimal camps in fair weather. The army bag isn't that much bigger and the weight increase of about 700g isn't noticeble when in your pack. The benefits of the army bag outway a small, light and less breathable bag such as the Hunka. I can get more kit in my army bag, a roll mat, even a Phantom 3 drone and it suffers from less condensation in wet weather.
