- This is my Skateology video for backside varial kickflips, also known as:
180 flip
180 kickflip
These clips were filmed at 1,000 frames per second with a Redlake N3 high speed camera at 1280x720 resolution. All skating by Brian Martin.

Handsumboy 34 hardflips are easier than kickflips for me. I hope I'm not doing some kind of pressure flip though lol

Lol, nope. I'm the same. I think it's because our right feet don't know how to slide to the side, which is a requirement for the Kick Flip. But for the Varial Kick Flip, we Shove It, which makes the board go at an angle, which means we don't need to slide our front foot to the side of us.
King Barney Im the exact same way, only thing is I can only do a varial backside heel rather then a normal varial.... and cant do kickflips at all....

coconuthunterlemons That was the same for me, until I tried kickflips a year or two later and now kickflips come easire than varial kickflips. This video makes them look good, who says they are a bad trick?

I am not kidding, I did my first varial by accident . I was trying to do a shuv it and kick my front foot out to make it look like a ninja kick, and the board flipped and I landed it. but there was no pop, still did it tho

You are not the only one. One time, I've tried to 360 shuv a 5 feet high gab and I accidently land a tre flip

@MrRicounet yeah, like ashomshy said, its a hardflip. but ive realized by watching hardflips in slowmotion that a hardflip looks more like a mix of a half back flip and half kickflip that goes through the legs than a full FS shuvit and a full kickflip. It's like a pressure flip with a flick and its a kickflip, not heelflip motion

what is the difference between varial flip and preasure flip?
DJ XB (sk9steph) They flip in opposite directions. A pressure flip is like an inward heelflip but you don't flick it with your front foot. Varial kickflips flip kickflip direction, pressure flips go heelflip direction.

I tried to kickflip but I’m used to pop shuvs and ended up doing a varial. Now I just have to get my back foot on to land this shit
i sometimes flick these accidentally when i'm really just tryna learn to kickflip, lol. If i end up landing this before a kickflip, that'll be outrageous!

I always found it interesting that kickflips are caught with the backfoot, and even when you add a 180 for a varial they're caught with the back foot, however once you get to anything 360 or 540 theyre caught with the front. However for 360 heels they're always caught with the back foot.
variel kickflip is probably my most grateful trick, since I grew up seeing teenagers trying to flip their boards. Seeing skaters like them influenced me to get into skateboarding. And I am thankful for that.

Lol can you tell me what a Backside flip is? is it a varial kickflip 180?
At 0:48 he flicks the board in line with the trucks using the concave to get the flick, is this the correct way to flick it because I would have though you would want to flick more on the nose of the board. Although I'm trying to do it flicking at the nose and can't keep the pop shove it spin and have the kickflip spin.

do not know why but when I try to Varial kickflips, only landed Varial Double kickflips and Varial triple kickflips (Obviously I love it) But I do not know how it is to rotate the table only once. U.U
no its backwards. i know it doesnt make any sence but frontside is behind you and backside is in front of you. it only changes if you're in nollie
no a hardflip is where u flip the board like if it was doing a backflip and do a half kickflip so it'll land on it's wheels......

I thought that would make an inward kickflip? I always though hardflip was more diagonal plus half kickflip. Then again I just started skateboarding again so my memory might not be perfect. Great videos btw! the best tutorials a man can hope! :D

slo motion is so cool cuz normally it takes maybe less than a second to land a trick like that and here it take bout 10 seconds :O
