As I was growing up in rural midwest, we did this every fall. We had to stockpile for the winter, never knew if we would be snowed in. Always a years supply of food, that we raised or grew. It was the life of everyone I know when I was a kid. Now these morons talk like it is new and they are geniuses. They are real idiots.

Even in this modern age, especially if you're older, in rural areas people prepare to be iced in during the winter and flooded in during the summer. Prepper only means to prepare. Ever live in an area where the water quit running or the electric went off for three days or longer? Those (smart) people prepare for that event to happen again.
Half the citizens of South Louisiana are preppers. We have to be since even if we have no home damage from hurricanes, power can be out for anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. You have to be prepared for anything. It’s just part of living down here. There’s no “doomsday” attached to the word prepper. It’s just normal people who are responsible and prepare.
Same for us way up here in northern Minnesota! You never know when you’re gonna be snowed in for days. And when the nearest grocery store during the summer time driving is 40 minutes away. You tend to have extras on hand. And where I live, we lose power in the winter all the time so we make sure we have propane heaters extra water since we’re on a pump that’s run by electricity. And I have two Jackery solar generators in to gas generators. I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t have that lol
I'm a professional white collar Asian woman and I consider myself a prepper, not a doomsday prepper. A few years ago when Texas had that huge freeze with no electricity, we were fairly comfortable as we used our wood burning fireplace and solar generator to run our devices and cooking appliances. Emergency food isn't super delicious but at least it's there

There's sensible prepping and loony prepping. A lot of the doomsday preppers, and it is a thing, spend enormous resources on weapons and ammo and tactical gear for the end of the world as we know it. Meanwhile they have little to no preparation for the emergencies that actually happen or even the financial resilience to get through a recession or job loss.
After covid it probably put it in peoples mind how inportant it was. With a large family if we hadnt already stocked up some things we would have really struggled with the limits they placed on things.

After Covid, I don't understand why everyone isn't stockpiling necessities. My own children got a wakeup call. That whole not in my lifetime. We are so beyond that mentality now. Over 20 years ago, some Canadians were hit by serious ice storm. Their government said electricity would be out for 6 or 7 Months ! Thick ice coated power cables, which snapped repeatedly. US power companies sent many electrical workers to help. Imagine being told no power in town, no medications, no food, no police or fire department, for 6 months. How would you fare ?
I actually just put some more beans in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers 15 minutes before seeing this video. I don’t think people necessarily need a bunker, but emergency stores of food, water, water purification systems, medical supplies and weapons make a lot of sense.
I used to work for San Diego County and we sent out notices to everyone regarding how they should prepare for emergencies since most officials and first responders would not be instantly available to help in a widespread disaster scenario. It’s just the common sense thing to do. Hate how it’s been stereotyped and politicized.
It doesn’t have to be a world or national disaster, it can be a personal disaster - think job loss or hours are cut. Someone gets sick and can’t work. There can be a snowstorm that cuts electricity for a week or two. Economic problems like Recession or Depression. I kept a year’s worth of food, house hold and personal care products for many years, I looked at it as part of a saving plan. I stocked up when items were at their lowest sale prices and that also helped keep my normal household budget extremely low. All food and supplies were stored and used on a rotating basis, I rarely had trouble with expiring food or other supplies. Many times if someone I knew was having trouble I put together a package for them. And, I could afford to give more because my cost basis was so low.
Hello, I recently was told I’m pre diabetic. I have stored preps since 2015, rotating like we should, now all the pasta, beans etc are wrong for me. I need to learn to store better choices. I wonder if others have similar issues.
@@patriciacooke886 I’m a controlled diabetic type 2. I can eat pasta and beans in smaller amounts. It’s about balanced, portion controlled meals and exercise. Pasta properly stored can last for decades, same with uncooked pasta. Instead of getting rid of the pasta and beans, focus on getting more canned proteins. Also, consider learning to hunt & fish or raise rabbits for meat. Rabbits need very little room, can be kept as “pets” with HOAs and are easy, inexpensive animals to keep. If there is a national emergency, you can definitely use the beans, rice and pasta for trading.

Also remember that illness can throw you bs out of whack, so eat fewer carbs while sick.
For those who just refuse, they will first become a burden and then dangerous. Learning to prep. Prepping is a lot of work. Learning to prepare long term so your food will last and not go bad is critical. You cannot buy a bag of beans and rice and put it in a box in the basement, garage or the worst, in the shed. Figuring out water is a must. There is a lot to learn and it takes years to do properly. Absolutely buy food grade buckets and save every single jar. Lock top lids are the best. All, lock top is a regular every day screw on lid like your jelly jar. Wash, put in the oven at 180 degrees for 12 minutes to sterilize. Putting a bay leaf in your flour keeps the bugs out. The list us endless. Learn. Don't spend a lot of money.
I think Prepper isn't really the right word either.. When Covid just happened I walked into a grocery store and all they had was air fresheners. Didn’t have any food at home. The currency that was in my pocket was worthless.
Prepping is related to common sense. People don't learn cause and effect any more (common sense) and this is a big part of why so many think it's OK to be dependent on the government for disasters. Keep your prepping to yourself folks because every relative, neighbor, bad guy and National Guard will come for your supplies if things get bad.
Prepping is about being prepared for anything. I was raised to have on hand what we needed. When I was a teenager, other than school, we only went to town once a month for major shopping. There was no running to the store for a gallon of milk or loaf of bread. We made our own bread and once a week Dad would go by himself to get the weekly necessities. My husband has always gone along with whatever I wanted to do, what made me happy. Our basement had everything we needed when the pandemic hit - even toilet paper - til things opened up again. then I started restocking. Now, he plans right along with me. I still stock the necessities. I also can foods in a variety of ways for long-term storage, and I have a large garden. As my husband prepares to retire, I'm doubling down on everything we use on a regular basis because our money situation will change drastically. Things always get worse before they get better. If the pandemic were to hit again tomorrow, would you have everything you need? Be Safe, Be Prepared, Be Blessed

Despite the lazy callouts with banjo music and reference to Doomsday Preppers (arguably for context, I get it), this was a fairly straightforward and informative segment, well done KCTV for interviewing folks who are independent small business owners and regular citizens on this matter. Ms. Acosta's comments at the end are by far the MOST important takeaway for anyone seriously considering this life - COMMUNITY. The lone wolf prepper will only last so long in a SHTF scenario, unless they're massively wealthy and have laid in their provisions and preps years in advance. It will take a community of people with shared values and a solid array of experience, talent and skills to stand a chance going forward in that scenario. The challenge for anyone and any group considering this approach is the "shared values" part; any group or community working together under duress in dire circumstances has it hard on a good day, serious rifts based on differing values and beliefs can be catastrophic. And therein lies the rub, we're more apart and divided than ever before and I don't see that getting better anytime soon. Best bet is to find people who share your values who can contribute necessary skills to the community, and work together often to set those relationships down and maintain them.
There's a big difference between being a prepper expecting some end of civilization scenario and simply being prepared. I grew up in the country. Roads weren't always passable, a bad storm could knock out the power for days. We kept a good amount of food and supplies on hand that didn't need electricity to preserve them. We had a standby generator. The house had a wood stove and we had a woodpile. We still keep a few week supply of essentials on hand. I don't expect any sort of societal breakdown - but I do expect mother nature to send a bad storm our way sooner or later.
All of these prepper people. If all of you remember when the coronavirus first happened. And everything was shut down. It was these people that were protesting so fast food workers go back to work and the people at the barbershop go back to cutting hair. And remember all of the drama because of toilet paper?? This country would never survive in any situation like that. Most Americans are only good for watching the news and maybe The view.
In Florida see it every time people run to the stores to get thing when a storm heads this way, get your supplies before the storm hit what if you loss your job, or get sick and cannot work if you have good food supply that is one thing that you do nto have to worry about

If you live in places with regular natural disasters that’s just normal life. Not everybody stocks up 10, 20 years worth of food. been preppers since 2004..not for doomsday. Seriously, food will NEVER cost less than it does today. In our 60s now, upped the ante and added ducks and chickens, and over the years have semi mastered gardening, canning dehydrating etc. Never had to fight mobs for tp in 2020...and never have to fight mobs for water in hurricane season. It is called common sense. Plus, we have made so many friends who want organic duck eggs and when you can find them in the store they are $6 for a half dozen...ours are $7 a dozen and they get to visit the ladies when they stop by. It has been hard work over the years getting things up and going...vacations ...dream on...but we get to eat clean food, no gmos, no fertilizer (chicken poo only) and no pesticides...our animals are not given anti biotics...

Personally, I view people who don't prepare for emergencies to be the idiots. People have health insurance, auto insurance, & homeowners' insurance but don't have enough food, medicine, or money set aside to survive for even a month if they were to lose their job tomorrow. I think the more we are watching the protests happening in our streets that is concerning a war, the more we are becoming worried about what is going to happen in our own country. I don't like the term prepper I am a person that has stocked up for 50 years plus. Years ago used to Garden raised chickens and rabbits. I don't like the taste of tame rabbit but my now ex-husband did. I try to keep one to two years on most items that I eat or use depending on expiration date. I'm not going to have a bunker in my backyard or an arsenal of guns.

A Survival Bunker that is only good for 60 Days? What a piece of junk. Firstly, it should be a Cylinder for Structural Strength. It needs to be buried at least Four Metres Deep in Concrete covered by Soil. The Air Intake and exhaust must be concealed at least 30 Mtrs away. You need an Underground Chamber, at least twice the Size of your Bunker that all Waste is pumped to with a One Way Valve. You don’t want to swim in your own muck. This Chamber Must have a pipe to the surface to expel Methane ant other Gases. Suggestion, conceal it inside an old Tree Stump. The Air Intake a run up inside a Tree to a Height of Sixty Feet. All Combustible Grass etc is kept clear of the Trees. Well clear. If you are going to build a Survival Shelter do it correctly. An Escape Tunnel is also a necessity. That has its own Construction Requirements. Do it right or you will just build a Large Coffin. G.

My supplies sure came in handy in 2020. Not only was I able to help my family but other people too.

Funny thing is… we are considered stupid with tin foil hats… but im pretty sure when SHTF we will have the last laugh. While everyone is scrambling to get necessities we will be sitting at home with our feet propped up watching the crazy happen.
When Covid just happened I walked into a grocery store and all they had was air fresheners. Didn’t have any food at home. The currency that was in my pocket was worthless.
Go to the store before a snowstorm in KC you’ll get it .

Prepping is related to common sense. People don't learn cause and effect any more (common sense) and this is a big part of why so many think it's OK to be dependent on the government for disasters. Keep your prepping to yourself folks because every relative, neighbor, bad guy and National Guard will come for your supplies if things get bad.

Prepping is about being prepared for anything. I was raised to have on hand what we needed. When I was a teenager, other than school, we only went to town once a month for major shopping. There was no running to the store for a gallon of milk or loaf of bread. We made our own bread and once a week Dad would go by himself to get the weekly necessities.
My husband has always gone along with whatever I wanted to do, what made me happy. Our basement had everything we needed when the pandemic hit - even toilet paper - til things opened up again. then I started restocking. Now, he plans right along with me.
I still stock the necessities. I also can foods in a variety of ways for long-term storage, and I have a large garden.
As my husband prepares to retire, I'm doubling down on everything we use on a regular basis because our money situation will change drastically.
Things always get worse before they get better. If the pandemic were to hit again tomorrow, would you have everything you need?

Many people just dehydrate food to keep it for when the budget gets tight. Hens don’t lay in winter so dehydrating extra eggs is an easy way to have food all year.

Despite the lazy callouts with banjo music and reference to Doomsday Preppers (arguably for context, I get it), this was a fairly straightforward and informative segment, well done KCTV for interviewing folks who are independent small business owners and regular citizens on this matter. Ms. Acosta's comments at the end are by far the MOST important takeaway for anyone seriously considering this life - COMMUNITY. The lone wolf prepper will only last so long in a SHTF scenario, unless they're massively wealthy and have laid in their provisions and preps years in advance. It will take a community of people with shared values and a solid array of experience, talent and skills to stand a chance going forward in that scenario. The challenge for anyone and any group considering this approach is the "shared values" part; any group or community working together under duress in dire circumstances has it hard on a good day, serious rifts based on differing values and beliefs can be catastrophic. And therein lies the rub, we're more apart and divided than ever before and I don't see that getting better anytime soon. Best bet is to find people who share your values who can contribute necessary skills to the community, and work together often to set those relationships down and maintain them.

Prepping is inversely proportional to how citizens views our government ability to manage a crisis.
There's a big difference between being a prepper expecting some end of civilization scenario and simply being prepared. I grew up in the country. Roads weren't always passable, a bad storm could knock out the power for days. We kept a good amount of food and supplies on hand that didn't need electricity to preserve them. We had a standby generator. The house had a wood stove and we had a woodpile. We still keep a few week supply of essentials on hand. I don't expect any sort of societal breakdown - but I do expect mother nature to send a bad storm our way sooner or later.
A fool and his money are soon parted.
All of these prepper people. If all of you remember when the coronavirus first happened. And everything was shut down. It was these people that were protesting so fast food workers go back to work and the people at the barbershop go back to cutting hair. And remember all of the drama because of toilet paper?? This country would never survive in any situation like that. Most Americans are only good for watching the news and maybe The view.
My family always put back extra things just in case. I still do it today but everything I'm moderation.
In Florida see it every time people run to the stores to get thing when a storm heads this way, get your supplies before the storm hit what if you loss your job, or get sick and cannot work if you have good food supply that is one thing that you do nto have to worry about

Used to be a normal thing back in my grandma’s generation when grocery stores and shopping malls weren’t a thing. Many preppers aren’t doomsday preppers. If you live in places with regular natural disasters that’s just normal life. Not everybody stocks up 10, 20 years worth of food. If you go up undeveloped countries, pretty much everyone are ‘preppers’. 😅

been preppers since 2004..not for doomsday. Seriously, food will NEVER cost less than it does today. In our 60s now, upped the ante and added ducks and chickens, and over the years have semi mastered gardening, canning dehydrating etc. Never had to fight mobs for tp in 2020...and never have to fight mobs for water in hurricane season. It is called common sense. Plus, we have made so many friends who want organic duck eggs and when you can find them in the store they are $6 for a half dozen...ours are $7 a dozen and they get to visit the ladies when they stop by. It has been hard work over the years getting things up and going...vacations ...dream on...but we get to eat clean food, no gmos, no fertilizer (chicken poo only) and no pesticides...our animals are not given anti biotics...

How much does one cost
Personally, I view people who don't prepare for emergencies to be the idiots. People have health insurance, auto insurance, & homeowners' insurance but don't have enough food, medicine, or money set aside to survive for even a month if they were to lose their job tomorrow. That is incredibly naive & shortsighted.
I think the more we are watching the protests happening in our streets that is concerning a war, the more we are becoming worried about what is going to happen in our own country. If you have ever studied what Britain went through during world war II, if definitely shows what any nation could face if we go to war here in A😮

I don't like the term prepper I am a person that has stocked up for 50 years plus. Years ago used to Garden raised chickens and rabbits. I don't like the taste of tame rabbit but my now ex-husband did. I try to keep one to two years on most items that I eat or use depending on expiration date.
I'm not going to have a bunker in my backyard or an arsenal of guns.

A Survival Bunker that is only good for 60 Days? What a piece of junk. Firstly, it should be a Cylinder for Structural Strength. It needs to be buried at least Four Metres Deep in Concrete covered by Soil. The Air Intake and exhaust must be concealed at least 30 Mtrs away. You need an Underground Chamber, at least twice the Size of your Bunker that all Waste is pumped to with a One Way Valve. You don’t want to swim in your own muck. This Chamber Must have a pipe to the surface to expel Methane ant other Gases. Suggestion, conceal it inside an old Tree Stump. The Air Intake a run up inside a Tree to a Height of Sixty Feet. All Combustible Grass etc is kept clear of the Trees. Well clear. If you are going to build a Survival Shelter do it correctly. An Escape Tunnel is also a necessity. That has its own Construction Requirements. Do it right or you will just build a Large Coffin. G.
So all you need is a half million to spare and you're good to go....
