MORDEKAISER MY BELOVED. My first M7 character back when that meant something. I love his design, gameplay, voicelines. It is a lil weird how they never have a color for him, green in League, blue in LoR, he was red in TFT
red in tft was prolly just for visuals to match with the other units blue should be his canonical color and honestly i hope they update him in league and wr someday it's not hard

In league he is portrayed as he was brought back to Runeterra and that sickly greenish color represents undeath in the world. I think it would make more sense for him to become blue during his ult only

I hate how Mordekaiser talks in LoR. His voiceover is league is so superior it's kind of sad. He is waaaay more imposing when his demeanor is calm and collected, not shouting his helmet off.
I still think they coulda kept old man Viego. I think he coulda been really interesting as an actual loving old husband who threw away everything for his queen. You don't have to neccesarily go big and bulky, but I'd have liked this older 'I ruled the world once, and I burned it down to save my Queen' character. Its much harder to invest in a brat.
I guess it sells better. And bratty prince turned Necro-evil is a decent idea, but it does feel a bit lame. Basicly Mord looks like a Final boss in MMO and Viego looks like a final boss in some Gacha
So, design wise, he'd look like Thoran from AFK Journey? If anything, they could've kept both ideas: devoted elderly king in base form, becomes fanatical romantic youth when ulting.

I always thought it'd be neat if it was kind of like a Catherine and Peter relationship where the queen was actually the really competent one. Less toxic though. The king is a good man who keeps it all together because of his wife and when he loses her its all gonna go to hell so between love and the fact he will fail without her he goes on this crusade. Have lines like "They always underestimated how far I'd go" when he ults and gets that younger form.

9:42 the fun thing about new rift herald is that instead of it going into the direction you point the arrow in it starts going the direction in which your character last looked before entering Very fun and intuitive! 😎
I have recently become addicted to Full AP Morde as an APC. It works especially well in ultimate spellbook, where you dont have to deal with surviving until level 3, and you can fix most of his weaknesses with the ultimates. But it's very fun! I just rush stormsurge, and nobody ever expect just how much damage you deal, it's so fun

I think Mordekaiser having similar colors to Shadow Isles makes sense. Shadow Isles and Mordekaiser are both basically undead ghouls, which nobody else really is. The demons and the Void aren't really based around theat kind of thing. Granted, the Shadow Isles color mostly comes from the mist, but it's fine, it being a color of undeath works just fine. They may not be directly connected, but they do still have that connection. Sion is undead and he has a red coloration, but that's why I specified undead ghouls rather than just general undead, cuz Sion is more of a zombie.
The best "dark lord" of league hands down. Mordekaiser is just so evil to the spine and sometimes that's good enough for a villain. My man refused to die and prefered to create his own death dimension, that's metal af. I love his armor, his kit and the ominous voicelines. Cause he IS gonna get you and there's nothing that's gonna stop him.... unless you're leblanc i guess lol. One thing to point out for his coloration is that he explicitly states when meeting a shadow isles champion “the same magic that binds you to this realm, frees me to walk between”, so during 10:30 when you were talking about that I think it’s worth pointing out that he IS related to the shadow isles purely because he uses the same magic. That’s why he looks so similar to them. Unlike Viego who is trapped by death magic, he has full control of it, and I think that’s why they decided to color him the way they did. In short I believe he looks similar to shadow isles champs cuz it’s meant to show he’s using the same magic as them.

I dont remember the source or reason he gave. But it would make sense, because in the LOR cardart is he is in the afterlife. I think the version in LOL is in the "real" world(its after his third return to runeterra "thrice reborn" and all) and therefore he is green.
Do you remember the "gameplay update" they were gonna do with him by swapping his passive and w? I do. Old Morde always gaining shields and heals just played into his fantasy even more. Whenever you thought he was dead, he would just somehow live through it, he's unstoppable after all.
Mordekaiser was the champion that got me into league; seeing his rework pop up in my TH-cam feed sent me down the league rabbit hole and has led me to being as addicted as I am to this game. While these days I prefer udyr and voli and ORNN and Gangplank, Morde will always hold a special place in my heart (especially since I made him the big bad of my first DND campaign)
I just cannot describe how angry his LoR re-design makes me. It is bafflingly ugly, just indescribably hideous, and on top of that is a re-design of one of the best designs in the entire League of Legends setting. Whoever made it should genuinely be fired ASAP
All I'm saying is that old Morde would be quite frightening with the current itemization. He used to scale with AD so I could see unorthodox builds with Sundered Sky or Shojin's Spear being surprisingly effective.
Nicky, i believe i've found the proper way to use shelly's charge, i think you have to aim and then left/right click once you have decided your trayectory, at least thats how it stopped to just completely twist in the opposite direction i was aiming. Hope this helps

Mordekaiser is supposed to be a World Ending Threat - an ancient warrior king who conquered so much of the world, who returned to the material plane through almost sheer force of will and even now those who remember him fear his possible return as they can't think of any other way to stop him (I reckon if you threw him into a void monster's gullet it would work) Anyway, I think a really good way to get this across would be Nuclear Green flame erupting from him - it's bright green would distinguish itself from the rest of the Shadow Isles, and really reflect the parallels Mordekaiser has with Xerath - They are both highly powerful mages who have their energy-based essense bound into a container that acts as their physical form. Crackling nuclear green lightning to signal Mordekaiser's similarities to Xerath as a being of powerful magic, while also showing his links to the realm of the dead.
I always say, Mordekaiser has more to do with the Shadow Isles than most, and they should've keep that as in, when the Ruined King was finally defeated, if they could somehow seal, ban or exorcise the Shadow Isles mist, all of that should end up at Morderkaiser's front entrance like "I've been waiting for you, now we can really get to work", and you get Mordekaiser with Hecarim, Thresh and Karthus as his generals, maybe even throw Kallista and Ledros for the insane but also mind controlled angle. Now you get a Runeterra who thinks they're free from the mist, on a "age of peace", when they just delivered to Mordekaiser his means of entering our realm, and possibly not even Leblanc thought there weren't people capable of stopping the Ruined King and the mist, and she just notices what the hell that means at the very last second in a "YOU'VE JUST DOOMED US ALL" way
I loved his old ultimate. I still wish some day they can bring it back in some way (yes technically Viego passive is that, because August said its a modernization of the old Mordekaiser ult, but i personally don't count it). Like they could make it like if you kill a champion in the Death Realm you also get their soul as a controllable pet (instead of stats)
Morde really does just hit that perfect thematic fantasy of undead tyrant. Honestly he has my favorite voicelines in all of league, his first move lines are just fantastic. The VA for him really did good. Its always a little bit of a shame that we lost the old morde ult, but I think we got such a good character out of the loss of old morde that its fine. Most of the updates from then and before were like that. You lost something, sure. But you gained a lot too.
I want my old morde back. I just don't have fun with him anymore with his current kit. Being this goofy overlord who could control the spirits of the dead was such a fun concept idea. Gave me LotR vibes with Sauron and his ring wraiths.
from the lore that we know the souls from the LoR is the same color as the mordekaiser is green but a little more blueish and because his spells and weapon made out of those souls it kinda makes sense to make them green but a little more blueish
Mordekaiser is my favorite league champion since S3 and i really like the rework (gameplay wise the juggernaut update with dragon soul and triple Q was the best imo) But the only thing i wish they kepted more closely too was that iconic helmet design with shorter horns, and the worst part about it for me is that on the splash art he looks alright becaus the horns are "shorter" in terms of cuting them out by workspace, but in game they are too big for me...
PSA: Am probably too late but for 9:42 - HERALD ISN'T LIKE NUNU W (For some reason) you have to click on herald to start the channel to get in, THEN RIGHT CLICK IN THE DIRECTION YOU WANT TO GO while channeling in order to direct it. It's not like Nunu w / Sion ult where you just point your mouse in the direction you want to go in
I always associated that "shadow isle" green with the color of death and spirits in general for League lore. I never thought the Shadow Isles had solo rights to it; that color is just how death is expressed by Riot. At least, it was way less confusing than old Skarner who TOTALLY looked like a void monster, but wasn't.
Even if Morde doesn’t have any ties with the shadow isles, having the same teal color makes sense, since both these factions manipulate and torture souls, instead of giving them rest like Kindred, or playing with them like Lillia (I guess).
Mordekaiser isn't part of the shadow isles but is still using ruination. Proven by his interaction dialogue towards shadow isles champs. "The same magic that chains you to this realm frees me to walk between."
I love how Mordekaiser conquered the world saw that the afterlife sucked and decided to create his own kingdom in the afterlife. Only to then go back to the living world to re-conquer it just to get even more followers for his realm. This dood's actions are so funny the icing on the cake is Leblanc being the Starscream to Mord's Megatron.

After Necrit's videos Mord's LoR design makes sence to me. Well, mostly. He's blue cuz souls are blue. He's green on the surface cuz that's how souls look in the overvorld. Kinda how that deep sea fish that looks like a sad man only looks that way up here because of the pressure messes it up and deep underwather it looks fine (like a semi normal fish)
I actually like the blue color Mordekaiser. Shadow Isles green represents more of defeated soul, the dead that gave up on life, became corrupted by the mists and are enslaved to Viego. Vibrant blue shows of how much will is in Mordekaiser which is part of his origin, the man who willed himself to life. Bright blue shows of exactly how indominable he trully is.
Still cracks me up that, going off his name, the mythical and otherworldly language of the dead - Och'nun, is literally just somewhat scuffed German. He ain't sending anyone to Brazil, they're going straight to Bavaria
The green is perfect for him, the shadow isles is the nexus of un death within runeterra. So the green is un death not specifically shadow isles. So green for both is great.
I dont think he should be tied to noxus in his design at all he didn't have anything to do with he creation of noxus he just built a fortress that noxus built theyre civilization around when he died and the black rose or whatever they're called is still in noxus but they were apart of mordekaisers's empire and I think he should have the same colors in terms of ghosty bits as shadow isles because they are both apart of death but I do think the blue just looks odd I dont like runterras design a lot because of how blicky he is or how in his dialogue he's screaming a lot and doesn't have interaction with le blanc or Veigar instead he gets an interaction with volibear for some reason
Tbh I think they went perfect with how mord in in LoL, some of the points are valid, but he's undead spirit rather than a runeterra spirit. There's a lot that's looks goofy or meh on the LOR design, which is surprising
I don't see the problem with green honestly. Yes it is the same as shadow islands but turns out the thing with shadow islands is in the same line, undead souls trapped in the realm of the living. Red is more for demonic stuff, purple for the void and blue for hextech/magic. Green aura for the undead theme and red banners for Noxus I think is perfect.
So we can't have two big spectral armored kings, it would be a decent explanation had we not have Yasuo, Yasuo 2, Kayn or you know, same face and same BODY syndrome with female characters. Those concept arts of Viego look amaizing.
Let's be real, they gave him the green because he WAS going to be tied to the shadow isles and then they decided it needed to be it's own distinct region because everything needed to be a distinct region back then and they wanted to do their shitty Akshan Viego world event. It would have been dramatically better for them to stay the course and actually make him the big bad instead of going "uhhhhh yeah that's Camavoran magic or something, who knows, just a coincidence, here's a terrible redesign"

Jeah, I don't hate the LoR redesign. I just think the Morde we got from his VGU in season 9 was perfect and didn't need to be iterated on.

Mordekaiser is my favorite league champion since S3 and i really like the rework (gameplay wise the juggernaut update with dragon soul and triple Q was the best imo) But the only thing i wish they kepted more closely too was that iconic helmet design with shorter horns, and the worst part about it for me is that on the splash art he looks alright becaus the horns are "shorter" in terms of cuting them out by workspace, but in game they are too big for me...

PSA: Am probably too late but for 9:42 - HERALD ISN'T LIKE NUNU W (For some reason) you have to click on herald to start the channel to get in, THEN RIGHT CLICK IN THE DIRECTION YOU WANT TO GO while channeling in order to direct it.
It's not like Nunu w / Sion ult where you just point your mouse in the direction you want to go in
I always associated that "shadow isle" green with the color of death and spirits in general for League lore. I never thought the Shadow Isles had solo rights to it; that color is just how death is expressed by Riot. At least, it was way less confusing than old Skarner who TOTALLY looked like a void monster, but wasn't.
Even if Morde doesn’t have any ties with the shadow isles, having the same teal color makes sense, since both these factions manipulate and torture souls, instead of giving them rest like Kindred, or playing with them like Lillia (I guess).

Mordekaiser isn't part of the shadow isles but is still using ruination. Proven by his interaction dialogue towards shadow isles champs. "The same magic that chains you to this realm frees me to walk between."
I love how Mordekaiser conquered the world saw that the afterlife sucked and decided to create his own kingdom in the afterlife. Only to then go back to the living world to re-conquer it just to get even more followers for his realm. This dood's actions are so funny the icing on the cake is Leblanc being the Starscream to Mord's Megatron.

After Necrit's videos Mord's LoR design makes sence to me. Well, mostly. He's blue cuz souls are blue. He's green on the surface cuz that's how souls look in the overvorld.
Kinda how that deep sea fish that looks like a sad man only looks that way up here because of the pressure messes it up and deep underwather it looks fine (like a semi normal fish)

I actually like the blue color Mordekaiser. Shadow Isles green represents more of defeated soul, the dead that gave up on life, became corrupted by the mists and are enslaved to Viego. Vibrant blue shows of how much will is in Mordekaiser which is part of his origin, the man who willed himself to life. Bright blue shows of exactly how indominable he trully is.

The green works because the shadow isles is connected heavily to death and corruption, and what is Morde if not the lord of those things.

apparently from his voicelines, the shadow isles and Mordekaiser share a similar magic hence probably why they are both green.
personally I like everything about runeterra mord except the helmet and I also like that viego is like some grieving man child

The green is perfect for him, the shadow isles is the nexus of un death within runeterra. So the green is un death not specifically shadow isles. So green for both is great.

I dont think he should be tied to noxus in his design at all he didn't have anything to do with he creation of noxus he just built a fortress that noxus built theyre civilization around when he died and the black rose or whatever they're called is still in noxus but they were apart of mordekaisers's empire and I think he should have the same colors in terms of ghosty bits as shadow isles because they are both apart of death but I do think the blue just looks odd I dont like runterras design a lot because of how blicky he is or how in his dialogue he's screaming a lot and doesn't have interaction with le blanc or Veigar instead he gets an interaction with volibear for some reason

Tbh I think they went perfect with how mord in in LoL, some of the points are valid, but he's undead spirit rather than a runeterra spirit. There's a lot that's looks goofy or meh on the LOR design, which is surprising

Yes it is the same as shadow islands but turns out the thing with shadow islands is in the same line, undead souls trapped in the realm of the living.
Red is more for demonic stuff, purple for the void and blue for hextech/magic.
Green aura for the undead theme and red banners for Noxus I think is perfect.
Mordekaiser basically has Xerath's color palette now, people saying it's Shadow Isles are way off.

So we can't have two big spectral armored kings, it would be a decent explanation had we not have Yasuo, Yasuo 2, Kayn or you know, same face and same BODY syndrome with female characters. Those concept arts of Viego look amaizing.
Let's be real, they gave him the green because he WAS going to be tied to the shadow isles and then they decided it needed to be it's own distinct region because everything needed to be a distinct region back then and they wanted to do their shitty Akshan Viego world event.
It would have been dramatically better for them to stay the course and actually make him the big bad instead of going "uhhhhh yeah that's Camavoran magic or something, who knows, just a coincidence, here's a terrible redesign"
