- We cover Australian market leading accounting software for payroll purpose with Xero and QuickBooks in 2023.
While both are great software and cover all the features you need, there are differences in pricing which would make one the ideal fit over the other.
In response to subscriber comment "I would be interested in a deeper dive into the payroll side/superannuation process for a small (husband/wife) setup. Compare to say Xero. Pro/Cons etc"
On the surface, Xero appears to be the cheapest with the $10 per month with their payroll only plan however reality most small business also need accounting software which means QuickBooks is $35-$65 per month with payroll and accounting software resulting in the same additional fee for payroll. We also recommend having access to the super payments within your accounting software which means Xero is $76 per month vs $35-$65 per month for QuickBooks.
Overview of Xero & QuickBooks Features:
• Setting up employee / self service
• Processing payroll
• Send payslips by email
• STP setup/lodge with ATO
• Processing Super
Pricing February 2023
• QB: $5/ employee, Simple Start ($25) to Plus ($55).
• Xero: 1-4 Employees $10, without super or $76 per month with super.
