  • In this video we compare the Original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera to the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. The video consists of a blind test where both cameras were given the same amount of light and used the same in-camera settings. The cameras were later on matched in Davinci Resolve in terms of exposure, contrast, white balance, tint etc. Battle of the BMPCC's

Hello Carl, 2021 and since 10 years ago the original BMPCC is still the best and smallest cinema camera of the world. Blessing.

Oh shit, here I am going "B is definitely the BMPCC4k because it looks nicer." You got me! And I even own the BMPCC4k :-)

BMMCC owner here (pretty much same as bmpcc OG) .Keep thinking about getting a 4k for the practicality of the screen and 120fps. But this has just told me don't bother! Thanks so much, great comparison. Ursa for me next I think!!!!

The OG is still looking very nice.
I “felt” that B from the beginning was OG and in the 3:20 i got the confirmation with the moire artifact on the shirt.
But besides that the camera is still producing lovely colors.

Wow !!! I preferred the b organic and cinematic look, A- looked more digital and sharp, I own the original, one of the most cinematic looks I’ve ever seen!

I have both and I love the OG but the 4K has many advantages and it doesn’t take a lot to make the 4K look like the OG.

Agree with you Lee, the 4K for sure wins in usability and working with it on an actual set for example.

Nice comparison. I have a 4K but always kinda wanted the OG pocket for its filmic quality. I wonder how this would have looked if you shot with the P4K in 2.6K mode with its S16 crop on in BRAW. Could have matched focal lengths and the resolutions more closely. But its awesome how good the OG looks upscaled to 4k!

BMPCC OG is the B one, the moire is more present (easily fixable). Still a very nice camera to me, dynamic range and capabilities are amazing for that price range. I bought a BMMCC for second camera and drone shooting, I finally use it as my main camera.

@Joel Kalsi I totally agree with you.
I only use a layer node in Davinci Resolve with saturation at zero in the bottom node. In the top node I put the gain at zero and turn up the three blur channel to about 60 or 65. Then, I turn the layer mixer node to composite node then to add.
Sometimes it work very well but if you have to much moire, this is not enough.
What olpf do you use? I am looking for one.

Great to see such an old little camera is still producing such beautiful images. Does shooting with vintage lenses on the BMPCC Original help to reduce any of the moire artifacts? I would really love to see a video on how the moire appears using different lenses. I have the GH5, but I still really want to get the BMPCC Original to play around with my Zeiss Jena lenses.

The blocked up shadows of A at times had me thinking it must have been the OG version, and then there were colour intensities of the B footage that had me thinking that must have been the 4K. Surprise, surprise! I had the 4K and got rid of it at the beginning of 2020, keeping my OG, which I use for all manner of interviewing and mini doco making.

    • @carlscinema7086
      @carlscinema7086  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Blocked up shadows is probably more of a TH-cam compression issue, it really compresses the shadows heavily.

To really see advantage you ll need to shoot highlights outdoors in bright conditions.Though you did great job of matching this 2 in post, OG pocket has still the edge here at skin tone and creamier look

Oh man, I only own the BMMCC but seeing this video I wish I went for the 4k (yes I seem to be the only person here). Much more details, less DoF and at least in this video better colours. I already noticed that the footage coming from my BMMCC is harder to colour correct then raw material from other cams.

Nice vid. Question, does the PANASONIC LUMIX G X Vario II Lens, 14-42mm, F3.5-5.6 ASPH., Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds, MEGA Optical I.S work with this camera? I only have used FD lenses but thought I should pick up stabilized wider lens. When I put on the 14-42 it is blurry. I updated firmware but still the same issue. Thanks for any insight.
