5:22 for cam bolt position so it can be taken to alignment. Great video right to the point, very useful for those of us trying to install our own lift kits.
I’m just sitting here laughing at the thought of all the X owners who had to cut out their bolts/LCAs watching this and yelling “WTF MAN! WHY COULDN’T MINE HAVE COME OUT THAT EASY!” 😂
haha I know it must be tough to watch. I grew up in the north fighting my cars every time I worked on them. I feel the pain. I can say however that I will never own another car from the north again. My Florida cars have spoiled me for life.
I just replaced the lower A-arms on my ‘06 Titan. I watched your video and I put my camber bolts in the position you recommended. I took the truck for the alignment. The owner of the shop (it’s a 1-man shop) asked me how I knew where to put the camber bolts. He said, “They were spot on! All I had to do was adjust the caster on the passenger side.” So, thank you for an excellent video with technical details that are “spot on”!
Thanks for the info. Helped me out a lot. Went to the alignment shop, they were going to charge me over $200 to replace bolts. They gave me the option, this is the second time you have saved me time and money. Thanks
What a great video. Im sitting here reading the directions and now i can toss them out. This gave a clear and concise explanation on how to do the job. Thanks
Great video - thank you very much! Was just quoted $468.96+ tax to replace these 4 bolts ($67.24 per bolt and $50 labor * 4) on my Nissan Frontier. What a rip-off!! Thanks to YOU - I'm able to do it for $50, plus an hour or two of my own labor. Thanks again - much appreciated!!
Actually my 2005 off road model has the adjustable cam bolts already but I'm replacing them because they are getting rusty. I'm putting the Rough County lift kit on mine along with different upper control arms then its getting a professional alignment. I already replaced the worn and broken leaf springs and that was fun doing it on the ground. I know this video is on the older side, but it was still informative. Thanks for doing what you do for the Xterta owners.
I have 07 Frontier, bought it new. Its been recommended couple times when i had my wheel alignment to replace cam bolt eccentric. I never have an issue with tire uneven wearing since brand new n now 13 yrs later. I just told garage dont worry on eccentric n just do regular alignment. Fronty runs great like brand new. Great vid !! Thnx !!
Great video and thank you for supporting us "TH-cam Engineers". I took my truck in for an alignment and they told me the cam bolts were spinning and wanted $380 for the repair, which I did on my own for only $60 in parts and in about an hour all done and back at the shop for an alignment. I found that doing the rear bolts sets first was easier to keep the control arm in place.
Another excellent guidance. I need to take on this task. Shop told me they can't align it because of the control arms and were changing a few hundreds more.
So after watching this I ordered some cam bolts and installed them. I removed the old ones and they did not look like the ones you pulled out. They looked somewhat adjustable with tic marks. I read on some forum that after 2005 (beginning in 2006), Nissan stopped putting adjustable cam bolts on the titans bc they felt they dialed in their alignment to the point where it didn’t need it. I was shocked to see the “adjustable” bolt bc I do t even have a 4x4, I have the lowest trim/option 05 Nissan titan (xe).

Great video , I have a 2000 Honda Accord . The lower control arm broke away from the subframe . Causing the subframe to break . I am planning on welding a washer to each side of the subframe for support . This makes the original bolt useless . Your bolt looks like it would work for me . What do you think ?
Hello friend, I have a nissan pathfinder 2005 I'm about to put a 2-inch ranch suspension but they tell me that I can have a problem with the alignment. The question is whether with the (cam bolts lower control arm) it would look good
I have a 2015 Nissan Frontier that has the same suspension. I went to get a alignment after buying new tires and to his surprise there was no adjustable camber bolts. As a former mechanic myself he showed me on his machine a picture of it and that it was there but on my vehicle it was missing. Why would Nissan do this? is this common with these Nissan Xterra's and Frontiers?
I went to get my pathfinder aligned and the tech tried charging me $300 just for the cambolt install . My suv is all stock and he wanted me to install a camber kit on my suv.. He told me he couldn’t do the camber alignment but can only do the toe alignment … was he trying to sell me something I didn’t need? By the way, is the camber bolt only needed for lower control not for upper control arm and what about the back , is it the same process ?
Hi, Ry! You have a wonderful selection of videos to check out. Thank you for making them! My question is: I have a 2019 Frontier that I bought brand new. Everything was stock on it until two weeks ago when I added 1.5" spacers to the front (along with longer shackles in the back). The front wheels then had a positive camber which, because of the stock camber bolts, couldn't be adjusted. I then had the eccentric cam bolts installed just like the ones you have. When I took it to the alignment shop they made my tires as straight up-and-down as possible (I didn't want any positive or negative camber). To my eyes, my wheels still look like they have a bit of positive camber, and it's bothering me. The alignment shop said that there was no more play in the adjustable cam bolts to get the tire perfectly vertical. Do you think what they are telling me is true? I din't think that a 1.5" spacer would be too much for the eccentric cam bolts to overcome. Perhaps I need an adjustable upper control arm?
Yes a lot of them did not. Some of them did if I recall. But yes. If an alignment shop does not see adjustable LCA's then just do "the best they can" and just don't fully align your truck. Definitely get some on there.
Hey Ry have you had any issues with the oil filter remote locator just wondering as since I got mine it's been oozing oil constantly and I cant see a reason for it when I changed the filter what would you recamend?
That was easy. I changed mine a few months ago. One side was seized up. I ended up having to cutting the bolts off. This screwed me up because the lower arm had a cut bolt through the bushing. I ended up finding two lower control arms at the junk yard. Replaced the ball joints and now my Xterra is all lined up.
I suppose if you over torque then they could fail. I have personally never heard of it happening. And yes if you had cam bolts fail that would be a pretty serious issue.
Im getting ready to do the koni lift from all dogs with the add a leaf and new high clearance uca's . I also ordered cam bolts should i put them in after i do the lift or start with them iyo?
What exactly is the purpose of an adjustable lower control arm? What benefit does it produce? Thanks BTW, I have a 2008 Nissan Frontier with a 2.5” lift package.
In the case of my Xterra the upper and lower control arms are not adjustable from the factory. This means that the only thing you can really adjust in an alignment is the toe in. When you swap these bolts out you are then able to adjust the castor and camber as well. All three are critical to a proper alignment. If you lifted your frontier you should definitely consider swapping these out if your current setup is not adjustable. If your alignment is wrong you could start burning through tires.
Hey, your using that Chicago Electric impact wrench from Harbor Freight. How's it held up? My local HF here in CA sells 'em for $50. For that price, I was contemplating getting one but had never heard of the brand before.
Yea, it works ok. The finger switch got a little finicky a few years after i bought it but it still works. I upgraded to a wireless Milwaukee wireless and its amazing but I keep the other around for certain jobs.
For sure! Especially if you want to have greater control over your alignment. A lot of times alignment shops will only align toe because the other points are not adjustable. Adding these will let them control more aspects of your ride.
Can you provide more info on the cam bolts please? Brand, supplier etc. I have an OME lift on my xterra and the front camber is slightly positive - I think the alignment specs post lift were 0.7 deg and 0.9 deg. It is enough that my tires are wearing a bit uneven. I'm due for new tires this summer, so I want to get a slightly negative camber on the fronts, especially because when turning, the camber and caster put more wear on the outer portion of the tread of the outside tire. Thanks
When had my tracking done rear os camber was off was in red but garage said not in important so still did my tracking... So are camber important or not?
I had the front done but they told me that I have to get camber bold. For the back I called the Kia dealer they don't make them any more I have a 2008 kia Ronda what am I supposed to do
does it mean when I do the driver side lca cambolts would be the same, rear washer has to face engine still and front washer facing the wheel. So the washers(wider side) on each side are facing each other.
Yes, wider side on the front is facing the wheel, opposite on the rear. Remember, this is just to get you to the shop for a professional alignment. You will still not be in proper alignment after you set it this way.
I’m confused, if you change the position of the oval washer by turning the bolt, how doesn’t it change position when you torque it using the same bolt?
Well, got the 2 front bolts in each side. Rear lca bolts are rusted right in. Penetrating oil, torch, using jack to pop it loose were all unsuccessful. Time to head to a suspension shop unfortunately.
