2024 update. I had this mobo and cpu combo in a closet. Tossed on aftermarket aircooler 16g ram (1600), RX 580 GPU. I did his settings exactly as shown in video. Same stable result in the first try. Thank you for posting this. Its astounding how great the performance of this chip still is.
Got my vcore set a bit lower at 1.365 and it's very stable with room to go lower. Was stable at 1.35 but seemed like it started to slightly loose performance in benchmark's. This helps keep temps slightly lower hopefully this helps someone...
Hi @scottlinux, thank you for the video. I know this is a old video, but were you able to select greater than x22 multiplier for the i7 870? I am asking, because I am in the process of getting a better motherboard for my i7 870, but I wanted to overclock through the multiplier and voltage without touching the BCLK.

When I had air cooler I was able to run 3.8ghz at 80-85c
Hey man, aren't those volts kind high? I have mine at 3.75ghz with all features on expect for turbo, cpu volt 1.25volts, QPI 1.190volts, PCH 1.120volts multi 22x bclock 170mhz. Memory 1.5volts at 1700mhz and did prime and occt for hours, temps Max 62 with Corsair h80 only 1 fan. In order to hit 4ghz need to raise volts to 1.34 to hold and temps 72 with 2 fan on h80. Too noisee man. Well each cpu Works differently. Thanks for the vídeo
Fernando I owe you a beer. I just got hold of one X3470 and was checking for a quick OC guide and I gotta say your comment won. With an ancient Scythe Zipang 2 (lapped) and Arctic MX-4 I'm getting max 56C in Aida64 stress test, and the best thing is its silent, fan speed is ~900 rpm + my mobo coil whine is less than with stock bios settings. I'm not even sure I wanna go higher than this, since the operation is so smooth. Cheers!
Aleksandar Dimitrijevic Hey that's great that my config helped you, try to drop PCH to normal, I believe that temps will drop a little without affecting stability
i have the same CPU and when i tried to instal it on GIGABYTE P55A UD5 NOT WORKING, I have F4 bios version on motherboard. The question is: I have to update BIOS to F10 to work ? thanks
omfg, 49-50*C without load, you have to "scalp" your procc my friend. and then you'll able to "overclock" 870 more and more (in my case till 4500 with "aircooling")
Fr0mB3hind?! i7-870 silicon PCB is soldered to the IHS so you cannot delid or "scalp" in your terms the CPU. His temps are high because his vcore setting is higher than average for 4GHz clock.

You've won the lottery wit the silicon on that chip :DD
What a convoluted display of uhs and ahs.
I have mine at 4.007-4.008 @ 40* idle with a rigged up AM3+ cooler on it. I'm excited to see how far it gets.
Thanks for the great video!

Tried this and got 80c under load, with hyper 212 plus. Bit to hot for me.
Lorryquai it consider normal if the load on 80c° but try to not surpass 90c° .

@Mate I am happy to help
My i3-550 not stable after past 175 MHz BLCK.
i3s have the shittiest quality silicon. These are i7s
could I overclock if I have a regular Intel cooler and is overclocking dangerous for the life of the processor?
I overclocked it to 3.5. Max core temp I noticed was 79°C.
What settings do you have different from the video?
I want to OC this same processor to 3.5 but all the videos on YT are 4ghz.
@@funkybuddhaInityeah me to because 80degress😢

Yeah
What values can I reach on average with the stock cooler? Are there anyone who has experienced it?
Or anyone who has an idea can write.
OMG voltage 1,400
PCI-E Auto or 100Mhz?
i left all my voltages at auto no need to mess with it
To "4,2ghz" only raise the voltage?
bro tempereature will go high
