I have all 4 of the artist series. The dx is more expensive for a reason, there's a big diffrence, kamasory or just folding type, they are diffrent.. A lot. I wouldn't reccomended the dx for a new shaver. It's easy to get irritation with it. It shaves amazing u just have to know ur way around it, the ss is no slouch.. Just way easier to manage on the face I personally would sell the ss if I had to sell any of them. I don't want to though lol

I got a scotch wood handle foldable SS last year and I am really happy with it.
I am no barber, I just mantain a full beard everyday with Muhle R89 Twist or R41 Twist DE razors + Feather blades. sometimes I use the SS straight razor on cheeks, chin and mustache areas. I tried straight razor on neck but it's time consuming trying to avoid a blood bath at 4 in the morning before go to work.
I have an heavier use of straight razor during the week end, when I have more time and can shave more relaxed, taking out also nicer soaps, like TOBS Sandalwood.
I usually go cheaper with Arko or Proraso soaps on workdays.
It would be interesting to try the DX, but I can't find a reason to spend so much money and get one, when I already have the SS and 2 great Muhle DE razors.

Sounds like you're a shaving aficionado! You're right that you probably don't NEED a DX if you already have an SS or other razors you like. But some people like to collect them. Some want to upgrade their razor as the DX is the top of the line in the Artist Club series. For professionals, it can make sense to own more than one Feather Artist Club Razor. It's up to you! :)

      @@JataiFeather It's a daily early morning ritual.
I already use the SS only once or twice a week, to add even the DX would be overkill.
Yeah collect stuff is expensive, I already have 2 straight razors and 3 DE razors, don't have much space left to display more.
I have even a Parker SSX and I use it maybe 4 times a year, it's handy to have the alternative that uses regular blades broken in half, but the feeling is a lot different from the feather artist club one.

The DX razor will also have 0.2mm more blade exposure for all Feather Artist Club razor blades over the SS model.

Hi, I'm considering between the DX or SR kamisori version, which one would you recommend for someone with very sensitive skin, and super heavy beard, that needs to shave every other day? Thanks in advance!

For a super heavy beard, the better choice would be an SR razor. When it comes to blade choice, the Super Blades are great for thick hair because it has more blade exposure. But with sensitive skin the better choice would be the ProGuard Blades because of the built-in guard. We suggest you start with ProGuard Blades in an SR Razor.

@@JataiFeather Thanks for the reply! I might try first with the proguard then, and then when my technique has gotten more sharp I might give the super blades a shot. Regarding the razors, you say that the Sr is better for thicker/heavier beard, is that because of the weight of the razor? The Dx is a lot more expensive so just trying to figure out really what the difference is, and if the price difference that the Dx has is worth it or not ?

I'm not even sure why the DX is more expensive than the SS. SS has SUS 317 steel in it, DX has SUS 316 in it. SUS 317 has better corrosion resistance and it is more expensive. The non folding version and of the DX and SS have 1 g on difference if I recall correctly, the folding ones have 10 grams. Ő don't know what drives the cost, SS should be the more expensive ...
I bought an SS, waiting for delivery. I believe, with the proper technique I can possibly have the same shave as with a DX for half the price and added safety.

If you have ever held a DX and an SS at the same time and have used them both, you would see an immediate difference. The DX models are much heavier in weight allowing the tool to do the work. Because it is heavier it has a substantial feel against the skin. Many barbers who have used both say the DX has an amazing feel in the hand and against the skin. The SS is great as well and will do a great job, but it is lighter and many barbers say it works great with sensitive skin. It just depends on your preference. Hope you enjoy your SS Artist Club Razor!

JataiFeatherRazors Thanks for the answer. I was mainly talking about the Kamisori 's where the weight difference is 1 g, so the SS and DX weigh almost the same. The western style DX is indeed 10 g heavier..

@@JataiFeather Hi! i do have a sensitive skin, so anyways should I buy the feather ss? thanks

Yes, this razor handle will be more appropriate for sensitive skin. But also, the blade type will make a difference. We suggest using the Light Blades or SoftGuard Blades.
