Thanks. Some locks, like these, require a featherlight tension to really feel whats going on. Others do need a bit of bullying to get into though. All takes time and practice to know the best approach 😁👍🏻
Yes. Yes. Good video and yes excellent tips for the M #410. D you do good helpful tips videos of the various tricky intermediate locks. I will recommend anyone taking a #410 foray to watch this. Take care of yourself.
Lots of practice will get you there along with suuuuuper light tension. Worth getting a few to practice with too. Some are easier than others. I have one now that is a very tricky pick 😁👍🏻
needed this! When I am bored at work I pick locks. We use NO 3 and LOTO. I managed to join the rattle club once, but haven't opened a loto successfully. Looks like I need to buy a top of the key way bar and try a deep hook. I like your explanation of the spool and counter rotation, I was getting that feeling but didn't understand what was going on. thank you
I used the Sparrows TOK wrenches that have Comb Picks on the opposite end. That was $15 well spent as there are 9 uses for the set of 4. Be mindful though as they are a bit thin. Somewhere around 0.032-0.035" thick. Their Heavy Bars in 0.050" are a bargain if you ask me. I got both the TOK comb picks and heavy bars for $20. Considering Petersons sells just one TOK tool for $10 I think the Sparrows stuff is a steal.
Thank you. I’m new to picking and got one of these to learn how spools feel and I was having trouble with this. I know I have too much tension and the I’m using bottom of the key way tension and having trouble reaching. I’ll try this as soon as I get a chance. You’ve earned a subscription :)
Awesome, thanks. Keep at it and you'll get it. Have you tried to make a tok tensioner? I made another video with an easy method using a bicycle spoke, if that helps 👍🏻
This is the lock I am currently shooting for. I got it picked once, but it took me 20 min. I am having an issue with my pick hand getting fatigued when picking this lock
@@Dmaclocksport I think the thing with my pick hand getting tired is that I am having a hard time with the paracentric keyway finding somewhere to pick off of in the keyway, and I end up picking with the pick unsupported with no leverage, which makes my hand tired
I bought 4 of these and turned the only one I could open into a baby rattle. I think my turning tool slipped out as I opened it and turned the core halfway down instead of stopping just past a quarter turn. I am struggling with these but have also been using a shallow euro hook 0.025. I notice a lot of people use the 0.020 for these
I got it in 4 minutes with one 410 loto lock, but the other for some reason I can never seem to feel number 5 binding for some reason, is there any suggestion?
You’re probably oversetting one of the pins stopping you from progressing and the next pin binding or you’re not fully setting the binding pin to move on to the next.
@@Dmaclocksport hi, yes. Will it go back or will you have to pick it back to lock. Mine, the key won't come out until I lock it on. The machine, I mean.
@@adielawson6854 ah gotcha. After picking it, it will rotate back to the locked position whether it's key retaining or not. I think this is true of all pin tumblers but not lever or tubular locks 👍🏻
While I like your video and agree with your general strategy, I can tell you that it doesn't always work. You are lucky to have two locks that open easily, most don't, because it won't go into a false set until you've picked the straight/serrated and pushed one or two of the spools into the narrow spool part of the pins. I've also seen several of these that have a #1 pin that sets so high you have to switch over to bok and use a short hook on the top warding to get it set. Plus I've seen them give false feedback by counter- rotating when that pin is set and then going into an overset. Try some more of those, the two you have are deceptively easy.
Thanks for watching. I think that most pickers have personal preferences based on the technique that has gotten them most opens and also what is comfortable. I will always try a deep hook and bok, if the keyway allows as it's given me great results so far. I've had perhaps 5 lottos that had different keyways and certainly found this technique worked well for me on all of them. Maybe I'll come across one soon that it doesnt work on and I'll have to learn a new technique. ✌🏻
This is, without a doubt, the hardest lock I've attempted to pick as a novice. I keep setting it down, glancing over 5 minutes later, and trying again for 15 minutes. Picking from the top of the keyway just feels so foreign, and I either apply such light tension that my turning tool falls out of the keyway, or too much tension that I bind the serrated pin. I have a small collection of padlocks from various brands I can pick without issue, but not this guy. Trying to tension and pick from the top of the keyway makes me feel like a moron.
They can be tricky for sure. Keep at it and, with practice, one day it'll just click. I have found that some can be harder than others though. It might pay to get another one and try your luck with that. Best of luck 👍🏻
Well I joined the 410 Rattle club a few days ago. Had left it unlocked for a couple days and grabbed it to warm up with. Rotated the core 180° and voila had to open it. Video showing results th-cam.com/video/8M348peNNmg/w-d-xo.html
Awesome picking and explanation. As a newbie and being naturally heavy handed I am struggling with tension but getting better. Thanks for sharing.

I made my rattle out of a paclock. Nothing a hacksaw, some super glue and a shitload of patience can't fix. Nice pick brother!
We've all done it! 😄👍🏻

What if your lock only allows removal of the key in the locked position, will it still go back in to lock the lock?
Not sure what you're asking there. If the lock is key retaining, will what still go back into the lock?
