The song is about how she was so mentally unhealthy that she developed a severe eating disorder in order to comply with the industry’s physical requirements. The coping mechanism that her label created was so controlling that she was forbidden from eating any sugar of any kind, even on her birthday, when she was just a kid. It wasn’t done because she was morbidly obese or at an unhealthy weight, it was done to keep control over her and her body so that she could be marketed as the slim & sexy pop star. During a time that she SHOULD have been getting treatment in a long-term facility and reducing her stress, her managers controlled her like a street pimp and made millions off doing so. They cared about the money she could make them and were willing to destroy her childhood and adolescence to continue making money, when they were supposed to care about her well being life-long. The damage that control caused in her transitioned from a severe eating disorder in severe drug/alcohol addiction and mental illness. Her changing her pronouns was part and parcel of her mental/emotional problems. She was looking a way to fix herself. It didn’t work (no one rational thought it would), so she’s changed them back. She is a very talented and very emotionally damaged young woman, who has been fed through the wood chipper that is the music industry.
