I totally agree with the story telling aspect! I feel like for British fans/not hard Weeknd fans, it was harder to appreciate if you don’t really know his catalogue or what he’s trying to tell, I always think collaborations are always fun, like I say, bringing a different POV to the art?
Totally agree he didn’t need any guest. He telling a story and a guest just didn’t go with his performance. He did it for his XO fans not for the super bowl. That’s why when you say any XO fan would of appreciated it you were right!!
@@shakilak.9521 As far as I know, the Weeknd has fans across the world judging from reaction videos I've seen so I don't think British people in general are wholly unfamiliar with his music. But yeah, those who aren't fans were probably left a little confused. I watched it with my family and they had no idea what was happening. They liked the Earned It performance and the entire performance done on the field. My brother remarked that it got better as it went along. The ladies at my job hated it and thought Super Bowl performances were going downhill. Then again, they didn't like Shakira and JLO's performance so...^.^;

But anything live by him there is a these vevo performances he did a few months back you could check out. Also godspeed cover by James Blake I'm a huge Frank Ocean fan especially blonde which is my fav album of all time. I'll try to think of more. But let me what you have heard and haven't so I can suggest more. I would message you on socials but I don't have any social media anymore I deleted it all last year sorry
Michael Jackson given the very basic setting he had compared to now, still blows my mind! But Beyonce was also one of my reasons favourites, I Also think Justin Timberlake did a wonderful performance even if his set wasn’t quite as “extravagant” as other artists!
Interesting reaction though the idea that the Weeknd would be singing with a smile on his face or with grit is hilarious. I'm sure if he wanted to, he'd do that, but that's not really in style with his brand. His performance was more for his fans than those unfamiliar with his work (and also other artists who have done Super Bowls have often done at least one or two deep cut for their fans). And the suggestions at the end--there was no way he was going to have guests. I know a lot of people wanted that, but he didn't and he also spent a good deal of his own money to put the whole show together. I totally agree that the vocals could have been louder. the Weeknd actually does have a lot of power behind his voice but I guess it's different listening to it in a bigger arena.
