    Quick note… I realise I wrote ‘Altra Vanish Carbon’ in the intro… please ignore that 😂 should be tempo!

    How did you come up with "Pro" Racers? Never heard anybody call them that way. pretty sure they are called Escalante Racer

      Might have confused them with the Endorphin Pro.

    Agreed they are 2 very different feeling shoes. I ended up taking the insoles out of the vanish tempo to get a little more space. I find them fun to run in....but after while the rocker seems to irritate my feet. No such issues in the racer. Super comfortable...a bit firm but overall I really enjoy them.

    I've run in exclusively the torin 4.5 plush for 3 years with multiple pairs. Had the vanish tempos in the box for the past 9 months and just tried them out. To me it's one of the most incredible show I've ever worn. Every return is unreal and the midsole feels like the quantic midsole of yore

    The Vanish Tempo is a damn near perfect shoe for me. Excited for the 2.0 to come out and have the 1.0 stay on sale haha.

    The Escalante Racer is my favourite shoe of all time! However I am going to be using the Vanish Carbon for my upcoming 10k, because it will perform better. :)

    How about sizing?
    I have a escalante racer and looking into buying a tempo for long runs.
    Whats your size in racer vs the tempo?

    I like both shoes for different reasons. Completely different experience.

    How long is your foot in cm? And which size did you buy in both Escalante and Vanish?

    I don't know how you can feel the ball of your foot more in the Vanish Tempo which has a 33mm stack height vs the Escalante Racer with a 22mm stack height. You get much more ground feel in the E Racer. Its firmer and lower. Doesn't make sense to me.

    I don't understand why Altra thinks it needs to copy its competitors carbon shoes. Ah well... The biggest problem with extreme rocker-curved-toed shoes (besides looking like a court jester clown) is that many runners end up with plantar fasciitis because they mimic high healed shoes in the way they force the toes to curve up and allow no toe curl. This is obvious when you also look at the therapy needed to solve planter fasciitis. The key therapy used curves the toes down. Exercises like toe curls or tennis ball rolls, picking up marbles and calves stretches all are treatments that do exactly the opposite of what the Altra rocker shoe (or any extreme rocker type shoe) does while you run. The deep curve prevents the ball of the foot from pushing off with a strong arch flex. And, that for many runners, leads to Plantar Fasciitis. So, your initial instincts about the negative aspects are likely correct... especially when you compare them to the typical Altra zero drop and wide toe box shoe.
    BTW, the Astra carbon shoe is strikingly similar to the OnCloud Carbon shoe. It too had the same extreme rocker curve and in my tests among carbons shoes showed it produced less power than running barefoot and all the carbon shoes tested. Plus, the break in the shoe occurred in front of the heal (...which might be related to why your foot comes out the Altra heal). Would love to talk to the designers of that shoe because nothing about that shoe made sense. If you like a flat carbon shoe with cushion and a LOT cheaper (about $100)... try the Altreyu shoe named "The Artist" (btw, occasionally order wait times can be long depending on size). The power output for the Altreyu tested for my running style compared very closely to the Nike and Asics carbon shoes at almost a third the cost. (Note: Shoe power output tests were done using the H/P/Cosmo Treadmill).

      Makes a lot of sense, sad to see most companies making shoes like this a norm

      If the rocker of the Vanish Tempo or Carbons extreme rockers is anything like the Altra Olympus Via, than this shoe is a hard pass for me, couldn't push off on the balls of my feet with arch flex on those, and felt injured after a hundred miles or so trying to stick with it. I'll have to stick with the Rivera as my go to shoe, just wish Altra made one with the Ego Pro foam without a rocker...

    • @jimjurek7911
      @jimjurek7911 ปีที่แล้ว

      The altras don’t have a toe spring as you’re describing… the “rocker” tapers thinner from underneath. Definitely have to size up a half or full size on the tempo and carbons, but they are absolute rockets.

    • @joemoya9743
      @joemoya9743 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimjurek7911 Toe spring? Don't know what that means. This is short version of what I said. The greater the shoe curves in the forefoot area, the greater the chance of plantar fasciitis. Exactly, how much curve constitutes "too much" varies from individual. Plus, speed is more of by-product of runner's skill and fitness. Injury is more of by-product of poor training and equipment (like shoes).

    Nice review. What...after a year? :)
    Would you suggest the Racer or the Vanish Tempo for track sessions?
    And for runs shorter than 15km?

    Great review! Had the same experience with the Escalante Racers. Did not experience any heel slippage even with a loosely tied laces. Looking to buy the Tempo's in the near future. In terms of sizing, did you go a half size larger in the Vanish Tempo?

    Does the rocker in the front end makes you feel that you run in a shoe that is not zero drop and has some drop because of the rocker?

      @LewisFordham  ปีที่แล้ว
