Yep. I had a Les Paul Faded and I needed strings. I went into my local Guitar Guitar for strings and I saw, on the wall, a Les Paul Traditional which had a really nice top, and was a very uniform sort of Peter Green lemonburst. The label said it was supposed to be honeyburst. I loved the look of it, and had to try it. Once I'd tried it, I knew I had to own it. I was going to regret letting it pass me by. I didn't have the money for it, but I knew I had to have it. I asked them to put it aside for me, and I'd find the money. Ended up taking a small loan to pay for it. Still got it now, and I will never sell it. No regrets at all.
Awesome, I really love hearing these kind of stories from other players, all I can say is that I hope this doesn’t happen to me too often or I’ll end up financially crippled 😂.

the desire and temptation to buy anything comes down to a mix of marketing and psychology. These feelings are even more common when one can rationalize spending the money or financing the debt. Guitars are just one of countless objects, items and products we desire. Yes, I purchased a Gibson ES-335 dot reissue in 1991. Still have it today, and never regretted getting it
It happened to me once, back in 2002 or 2003, a used 1998 Ibanez SC620 (looked a bit like a PRS with wrap a around bridge), had to buy it and what a great guitar it was, the neck felt so perfect...Sadly I had to part with it couple of years later in 2007 due to financial hardship, had to pay the rent. I still regret selling it to this day!
Yes, a G&L ASAT Classic Alnico in Butterscotch Blonde. I had been searching for a Tele for years and hadn't gelled with anything. It way my main guitar for several years after that. I still love it.
When I saw the heartagram tattoo in your strat video I thought "huh, he must love SGs", then I saw this thumbnail and thought "yup, must be an sg", and bigno! :) Looking great
Yep walked into Guitar Center in 1992 and saw a 64 Fender Mustang with a welded bridge and a bad refinish for $150 dollars. Walked around with it for twenty minutes waiting for a salesperson to ring me up. Still have it in the same condition and still plays great. The neck plate screws are worth more than I payed for it originally. 😂
@@JasonWharton82 The late 80's early 90's was crazy. Had a buddy buy a 64 Jazzmaster for $300 bucks because the shop couldn't find the case. Lots of 80's Les Paul Standards and Customs selling for $500 in the back of the classified ads in the newspaper. People would also pay you to take old Fender silver face heads and Kustom combos.
Thanks Budge, I didn’t see anything other than an F stamped on the back of it, which I’ve read could be either that it’s a fender spacing pup or it’s meant for use with a Floyd Rose trem in the bridge position 🤷. Next time I have the strings off I’ll take another look, either way, it sounds bloody good in the neck position of an SG…
@@JasonWharton82 yeah, F spaced is for fender spacing, which tends to be narrower at the neck anyway but I've found that getting the "correct" spacing doesn't matter one bit anyway 🤣🤣 it did sound cracking tbf, really nice sounding guitar you have there
Yeah I’ve never paid it much thought with pickups tbh. Definitely sounded better than the new SG standard I tried with those pretty uninspiring 490r/t’s.
Dude, don't do this to me, I am just gettimg my other 2 paid off! Good video as usual. My dad (God bless him) got me a Tokai Les Paul when I was 12. No amp or anything, but I def learned Smoke on the Water and Whole Lotta Love on it. Used to play it through my stereo.
Thank you! I’ve had a few over the years, first one was an SG special I got new (also from Guitar Village) in around 2004/5, I’ve had one of the faded series too as well as the standard I mentioned in the vid. Non of those stuck around long term, I have a feeling this one will!
I have a 1997 completely non original Ebony SG special that is my baby. Similar story to you but I got mine in a trade. Still my workhorse and I still get folks asking me about it at gigs
Awesome! I had an 04 special that I got brand new back then, it was when they were doing the special in double humbucker layout, dot neck no binding but still had the gloss finish. Wish I still had that one!
It’s really local to us so we are there what feels like every other weekend 😂. Not quite the same these days.
I had a 2000s Gibson sg that was just a dog. 500t 496r pickups were horrible, playability was terrible. Just an all around bad guitar. Im still looking for the one that I just vibe with. Ive had a few les pauls that gave me that feeling. The tone on this one does it for me without a doubt. Great score

These pickups really shine with a clean tone, sounds great with overdrive too of course.
SG’s shouldn’t have a clean tone. It’s just wrong.
