As a mechanic that works on a lot of diesel vehicles one thing people don't account for is cost of ownership - oil changes cost more - engine repairs cost more - parts cost more - exhaust system/def system parts not cheap. Sure yours is new but when the warranty runs out ownership can get pretty expensive.

It was the right choice trust me. I just bought my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon in the diesel platform within the last two weeks. I could tell you this... buying a 3.6 L was never even an option for me. I would’ve bought something used on craigslist and then build it up before I ever buy a 3.6 brand new. Too many issues with valves, lifters, rockers & the oil filter housing unit is just over all a poor design. As a Chrysler Technician I can tell you that I haven’t really seen any major issues with the 2 L Turbo or the 3 L Turbo Diesel. This is the first year that they have put it in the jeep wrangler and it is the third generation of the 3 L. And just last week I found out about the 4XE, That jeep looks really nice and I’m glad that they went with the 2 L turbo as the main power plant for that particular jeep. Also found out that they are going to be released in the 392 which she did a video on not too long ago that thing looks crazy powerful, But the Hemi also has issues with the lifters eating camshafts, exhaust manifold hardware issues that may require you to pull the cylinder head in order to extract.. 🤷‍♂️ At The end of the Day these were my reasons for going with the 3L Diesel

I agree with you on visiting the states! I did nine years active duty in the Navy (submarines) and have visited at least 12 countries (including 4 years in Japan). It's mind boggling that I've been to more countries than states. Returning stateside, I've been planning to explore more of our country because much of its landscape is so beautiful. Your videos has been a motivation. We have many amazing locations under our noses. I'm building my JKU for the exact same reason.

if you ship to Hawaii, takes about 10 days from long beach once it ships. Vehicle could spend a few days at port on Sand Island. Your registration and tag are good for 1 year on island before you have to Inspect and Register your vehcile. If any mods are done that alter suspension, or brakes it will have to be inspected by them to sign off on it if your vehicle is there more than a year

Out of all 50 states, Hawaii and Alaska will the the biggest logistical challenge. Driving to Alaska will be fun, but shipping to Hawaii is going to be doable, but a bit of work. Appreciate you insight, thank you!

Good point about the range! When you started the discussion on gas versus diesel, that's what I initially thought the advantage would be, longer range. That work also sounds amazing, that's the thing I hate about my 4Runner, at the slightest grade the engine needs to kick down to maintain speed, even with stock sized tires.
Hopefully when you make it out to RI the covid stuff has settled down and you can do a meetup! Not a lot of trails to run here, however the Jeep clubs have access to private land so they can definitely take you out. Like I said I have a Toyota, so I can't join, wouldn't be able to keep up anyway LOL.
I'm a big fan of your videos though, so it would be nice just to be able to say hi in person.

I have the twin ARB compressor installed under the front passenger seat of my EcoDiesel Wrangler Rubicon. Works great, stays out of the harsh engine compartment where it could easily be dunked when fording water. Other mounting options exist too. My ham radio is mounted next to the compressor as well, so there's more than enough room to easily accommodate.

@@TrailRecon I wanted to share with a fun note about old stuff. I served from 1980 to 1984 (YIKES!!!!!!) as an AD (Jet engine mech) for VS-37 on North Island. Talk about Dream Duty. I lived in very southwest corner of IB right across the street from the beach and on the corner of the Tijuana River Estuary, where we used to drink beer on the balcony and watch people sneak up through the wetlands into the US almost every night! Brad, thank you for sharing your experience with the diesel. A lot of people forget it's 400lbs heavier than the 3.6 and has a smaller fuel tank. When you decide to visit Kansas, there are a few places to consider. Tuttle Creek is near Manhattan, KS, and is maintained by the Army Corps. of Engineers. It's primarily ledges, but it's near I-70 so you don't have to travel far if you're playing through. Hands down the best place to wheel here is Kansas Rocks, a private ORV park. If Kansas was a pancake, this place is that extra dribble of dough. You can spend two full days there exploring all the trails (they just expanded with new acreage). The trails range from quick and scenic to "that's a cliff, man." KS Rocks also has primitive camping.

Happy New Year, Brad. Given that you're in the San Diego area, I'd love for you to test out an Ursa Minor jeep top on your travels across the states.

Big bend is a must. Not on the way to anywhere, and definitely not convenient to get to but it’s a beautiful place, like no other!

most people under-estimate the power wagon. it's incredibly capable stock, and once you put even one size larger tire on it the ability just goes up. i've seen (and taken) them places that I was going "no way" and it handled it just fine. look at some white knuckle offroad sliders for that though, yes it'll add some weight to the truck, but you can save a huge repair when you inevitably hit the rocker panels on a big rock. i've hit my sliders a few times, and just touch them up with some black paint.

Happy new Year Brad. I sure enjoy your content and just how honest ans straight forward you are with your information. I appreciate that if you don’t know you don’t act like you know. That is kinda rare. I have a 2020 JTR and I am enjoying it mostly. It was already modified when I bought it. I have a few questions, do you have a forum for me to ask those questions or where is the right place to ask those questions?

Have you ever considered making your gear in your rig a little bit more modular? So when your not on the trail you can remove the kitchen, refrigerator or other bulky heavier items. Things your not gonna be using or needing driving in the city. Great video, thanks for the insight. Have a happy new year!

Great Video and I really like your channel.
I was pretty much in the same situation for a while where I had been to more countries than states, now I think it is pretty close. When you go to NC the place to go wheeling and camping UWharrie National Forest in Troy, NC. There are some tough trails and some easy trails and everything in between, NC is hot and humid in the summer so I recommend spring or mid/late fall. You will need a pass to use the park but it is $5 for a day and $30 for a year.
Visiting all the states is a great idea and I look forward to the videos of your trips. As always a great video, and awesome fleet of vehicles.
